The reason Pistol/AR is no good.

Yeah, the competitive community seems to be hoping for a 4sk pistol because of those issues. Hopefully that feedback reaches 343.

The AR isn’t a precision weapon though. Starting with an AR will promote movement around the map and control of the more powerful and more precise weapons.

Exactly. Only, there’s one problem with your statement. People don’t listen.

No man stop. The AR should only be in the game for show. We should never need to use it. Thats just wrong.

And now there’s a good 4 or 5 of these topics around. And you can get a perfect medal in a lower time than the max kill time, making the reliability of the data perhaps not so sound if its based on getting a perfect medal.

That would be an interesting change.

I agree with it. I’d also couple it with an SMG/Plasma/suppressor nerf as well though.

It doesn’t though. That looks good on paper but we’ve tried this in HCE, H2 and H3 and it just doesn’t work that way. Once players start to realise that oh crap, the weapons I’m spawning with suck. They play very passively.

The fact of the matter is that if you spawn with a BR, pretty much everything is still significant more powerful than it in their niches. If you don’t go pick up these other weapons, you’re going to lose. You’re just not helpless off of spawn.

It should be a secondary spawn weapon behind a (decent pistol) or precision rifle.

Unfortunately in H5 though, the AR is so weak in comparison to the other auto weapons that it will probably become one of the most insignificant weapons in the game.

What I posted in the OP is the “perfect medal time”.

That’s what power weapons and power ups are for. Those are the things that promote movement. Not that anyone is arguing very hard against having the AR as long as it’s accompanied by a precision weapon like the pistol.

Key difference! The AR in the previous games SUCKED. H4’s was decent but was handicapped by the fact you could spawn with other weapons anyway.

So most of the previous ARs sucked, H5’s does NOT. The weapon balance this time around is LEAGUES better than before and you start with a rifle and pistol that are actually reliable weapons…unlike previous games where the magnum was decent only some of the time and the AR was an oversized SMG.

And to add to this, you can’t just look at the kill times to determine if a gun is good or not, you have to take into account range, accuracy, recoil, etc. The SMG might have a fast kill time but it’s range is poor. The Storm Rifle has a fast kill time but overheats incredibly fast if you aren’t careful.

I thought the point was that they weren’t supposed to be the best weapons? It encourages learning the map if you have to go find other weapons. The AR and pistol aren’t supposed to be killing machines. They’re weapons you can use to get kills, but there are other weapons better suited to use.

I honestly hope you guys never become game developers. You know nothing about weapon tuning and balancing. You’re just taking the word of a few competitive players on forums. If the pistol was set to be a 4sk weapon with it’s RoF and range capability that it has now, it would render every other utility weapon obsolete. Players would start to abuse the hell out of it and the game would suddenly turn into every past Halo did with the BR over powering every other weapon only this time the pistol will take it’s place.

Now you’re suggesting to nerf the SMG, Storm Rifle AND Suppressor? So what, you want to make every weapon useless other than the Magnum and the Power Weapons?

The weapons from what I’ve played so far are balanced perfectly. So well in fact that I believe they are the most balanced they’ve ever been than in any previous Halo game.

That’s because the AR is a starting weapon and the better auto weapons are map pick-up. You know, something that Arena shooters have been known for. Picking up better weapons on the map.
