The reason nobody uses mics anymore

I want MCC multiplayer to be great but it is missing a lot. I play Reach BTB and there is no communication like there was before. I am All for cross platform but now people are texting irrelevant messages, instead of making call outs or communicating during an objective match. The custom playlist is keepin me going…

So many people that play Xbox don’t even use mics and it just makes me furious. Like it’s 2021. How do you not have or use a mic lol???

I miss Xbox 360 Halo 3 lobbies dude…the toxicity gave it something alittle special. During Halo Infinite flights people were using their mics and it made me happy finally being able to talk to another Halo player instead of having to -Yoink!- to communicate.

Can’t say it was really all that special when you could go to any game and have children and adults hurl slurs. All that did was make me go into private chat with friends. Far more enjoyable than some 13 year old from Madison, Wisconsin screaming how they are going to -Yoink- my mother.

Agreed, nothing too great about that. It’s just that back then, having people log onto halo and just taking out all their anger on people simply trying to pay the game. Sometimes it was bothersome, sometimes me and my brother would just laugh.

From what I’ve seen, a lot of people prefer party chat. Its so easy to get communication banned on Xbox now. Not only that, I just enjoy peace when I play. I had one guy talk smack to my team in MCC. Was pretty annoying.

I have a mic, but I hardly use it anymore. If I do, I use it for party chat now and then. I don’t like in game chat, I don’t want to talk to anyone in game. There’s nothing wrong with that or with anyone else who chooses not to use one.

I actually hot mic it. I use my mic all the time, since especially being on PC. But on Xbox I never really spoke, everyones in there support circle parties that aren’t so inclusive.

Gonna be honest here, if you’re looking for callouts and everyone to have mics in unranked in MCC, you’re part of the problem. BTB is not fun if you’re just trying to sweat it up.

Part of me does miss the lobby and game chats of Halos past, but I’m also glad that we’ve moved past that. It makes it easier to find people to play with too, especially if you do play with a mic.

I don’t use a mic because I don’t want to talk to random people. If I’m using a mic, randoms will never know because I’ll be in a party chat with my friends.

Nowadays I just use Discord to talk to friends while I play or listen to my own music as well.

I agree. At most, I can count just a couple players in the past week with mics. Unfortunately, that was in the mythic playlist in H5 so no communication was possible. Slayer… just some guy blasting music.

Perhaps it is because people might be shy - especially new(er) players - and they are worried about receiving verbal abuse. When you are in a public session it is not uncommon for people to mistreat each other at worst, or to just be apathetic at best. This is because most of the players are strangers, so they do not care about the welfare of others - which is a real shame. Plus it is likely that these players will not see each other again; which removes the consequence of having to awkwardly talk to somebody in a new session who you insulted in a previous match.

This can be solved by having smaller, more closely-knit groups who actually know each other. The issue with this, though, is that while smaller parties communicate and player better amongst themselves they can be more “cliquey”, and can sometimes be even more unfriendly toward strangers than in a public game full of strangers. Either of these situations can be off-putting to people who are thinking about using voice chat.

Also from my own personal experience: the last time I used voice chat was on the original version of Halo 3. There was nothing but players in most sessions trash-talking about each other. This can be just as much of a waste of time as not communicating at all, so sometimes it is better to remain silent and to try and score points until you happen to join a session with friendlier players in it.

Every time I hear someone on mic it’s just angry teenagers or childish adults. I can’t say I generally enjoy listening to people with mic.

I miss the halo 2 and halo 3 lobby’s… I miss being called a Noob and bad kid…. Let’s bring it back boys let’s just start talking

It’s because people have gotten accustomed to party chat and discord. It’s almost like we’ve been bred to stick with our click.

I think it’s a combination of a lot of things, but the main reason my friends and I don’t use game chat is because I’d rather chill with my friends in a party, and if they aren’t online I usually play while listening to YouTube videos in the background.

Ever since party chat was invented lobbies in any games just seem like they are ghost towns

I keep my mic on in customs, but no one else ever has there’s on in matchmaking. Whenever someone does have a mic it’s typically a child incoherently screeching at the enemy team for having killed them or something.
