the H5 campaigh as we all know wasent exactly what we were expecting. here are the 3 REAL reasons it failed to impress.
-
Hunt the trunthunt the truth set a dark & misteryous mood for h5. after listening to seasons 1&2 we beleaved that ONI may try to kill mc, & that cheaf may had beed a fraud
-
H4 Spartian opsspartian ops ended with palmer receaving the rest of the janis key & halsey swearing revenge on the unsc. this plot was a huge mistake as it focused to heavily on the janis keys & halsey. 343 noticed this & had to slowy cut out the spartian ops story (whitch was suposed to have 4 seasons) throug halo esculaitions. while at the same time try & lay a path for H5s story introduceing the new caracters & there origins.

H5 viral adds(traitor bullet & hype trailers) this made us think cheaf & lock were going to be at eatch outhers throats the whole time. plus it made us think either cheaf or lock would die. expecting some super epic strugle between cat & mouse, where the good guy may infact become a bad guy
the story was super fun & a breath of freash air.
BUT THEY OVER SOLD IT WAAAAYY TO MUTCH!
Are you sure it didn’t have anything to do with the fact that the main plot was told over the space of three missions?
(The Blue team missions)

nope. i enjoed playing as lock. it was interesting, about like playing as arby or rookie for 1st time. i dont get but hurt over things like that. i just sit back & enjoy
The way I see it the gameplay was better than the story, even playing locke 70% of the time was enjoyable IMO.
Th advertisements are told from ONI’s point of view by the way, so it was basically a cover up to make people focus on a fake conflict to hide their secrets (hunt the truth may still be alive, but H5 doesn’t have much to do with it).

Just being the devil’s advocate. I agree with a lot of what you said, but it was really the short length of the campaign that messed it up for me.
Hated playing Locke and at this point in my disappointment of how Halo has gone downhill I hope he joins Cortana and they either wreck everyones plans and rule or die together and S**** on everyone elses day and ruins the franchise.
Nothing about terrible script or lame character development?
Why is this in Poll Discussions?
I hope they do better next time when they advertise Halo 6 and don’t oversell the plot or exaggerate the plot just to get more people to buy it.
I thought it was going to be a trippy psychological story about how all of Chiefs stories were made to sound good but in reality he was a criminal that was being poisoned by Cortana and her rampant state. Turned out it was just another story about Cortana with less Chief and more spartans that no one cares about (Jun should have been in Team Osiris!!)
I wanted more blue team gameplay.
They turned Buck from an experienced soldier with a long history into a comic relief only character.
Locke was fairly one sided and they did very little to show his struggle with the morality of his ONI superiors.
They made it seem like 98% of sangheili dislike humans, when quite a few of them at least respected humans and their will to fight.
The marketing team completely misrepresented the game to get more sales from a dark and moody theme that never happened.
I absolutely hated the new squad and revive mechanics. What happened to the fun of a hilarious struggle on legendary resulting in your rag doll flying 110 feet away from one punch? Oh wait revive. Plus they nerfed shield and health strength, making close quarters engagement stupidly risky
compared to other Halo games of similar difficulty.
Me personally, I like Locke. And of course Buck was a nice addition to the game as far as characters. But when the ads for the game spend months telling you one thing, and the final product ends up giving you something else, it takes away from the experience. I didn’t read the books, and so when parts of the story aren’t in the game and I’m told, “It’s in the books”, I really can’t be bothered to care all that much.
And only playing as Chief for 3 levels was really annoying seeing as 3 levels in the game were’t game play levels at all.
I thought the story would where we played as the Chief, he did some stuff, next level we played as Locke and saw the aftermath of Chief’s actions as we were actually chasing him.
Also, the reason for why he went “AWOL” as very, very, VERY disappointing. I thought he was going to have issues with Del Rio as a Senator or something from his actions in Halo 4.
Halo games have all had disjointed stories but H5 is a bit of a mess. My gripe was the forced co-op/team mechanic along with revive. Didn’t work for me.
From the trailers I thought I could pick my side and that Chief joined up with Halsey which is why Locke was hunting him, boy was I disappointed.
One of my biggest complaints is that they killed off Mdama way too early.

I’m intrigued by this statement.
A link perhaps?
My main let down was the hype of what we got in Spartan Ops (and Halo 4)…and that hype was get thrown abruptly in halo escalation series…
And I also agree that they oversold the Locke-Chief story in the Viral adds
I think the hardest part for me so far is running out of ammo and having to use the flipping suppressor and other lame guns for so long
