The real problem with orginance drops

It’s not so much that they ruin map control, it’s not so much that someone can suddenly have a Fuel Rod Cannon out of the blue…

…it’s the fact that large parts of the maps go untouched now and everyone just congregates in the easiest place to get kills. Instead of tucking valuable assets in various locations around the map to promote map movement everyone just runs into the middle to work on getting their ordinance drop. There are large sections of maps that go completely unnoticed because there’s no point in ever going there, which is a shame because a lot of the maps are very well done, but the ordinance system means that people just congregate in the middle until they get an ordinance and don’t bother exploring the map for weapons and assets.

I think you guys may be analyzing what’s “wrong” with this game a little too much.

Ordinance drops are awesome.

I have nothing against them, but as it stands people don’t move around the map because of them. The main reason to move about the map in Halo is map control and weapon control, the ordinance system breaks that. If they placed valuable weapons around the map and limited Ordinance Drops to thinks like overshields, camo, powerups, etc it would be a lot better IMO.

Disagree. I see tons of people (myself included) that run around the map slaying each other.

Maybe you been stuck playing the MLG crowd. I’m sorry :frowning:

I know that feel. I like the ordinance drops, but they’ve changed the game quite a bit. Vehicles aren’t as effective as they used to be since they usually get blown up rather quickly, for example.

I think ordinance drops system should be rethought a little in what is offered to the player. I understand having consistent buffs offered on the right direction, but the bottom and left directions seem slightly random. Left especially. Sometimes I’m offered grenades, sometimes a concussion gun, sometimes needler, and other times I’ve been offered a hammer. The yet other games, same direction, it offers me a sniper rifle.

It just almost seems really random to me.

I agree, it’s making the game kind of boring for me.

I think the exact opposite. There is far more map movement now. Think about the old power weapon spawns on a few old maps from various Halo games.

Zanzibar (H2) - Rockets spawned top mid, which was a perfect place to control the map. Sniper spawned on sea wall and Froman, perfect places to control the map. The seawall wasn’t so much, but if you started at that spawn, it was your best bet. Shotgun spawned up around invis tower, which was a great place to hold on the map.

Lockout (H2)- Sniper spawned up in a tower that was easy to hold, with a shotgun that spawned very close to it. Sword spawned across the way at the best defensible position for that map.

Pit (H3 )- Sword spawned in a perfectly campy place. Snipers spawned in an easily defensible tower.

When you look at previous Halo games, weapons generally overlapped with good locations for map control. Weapons were rarely placed anywhere that caused movement around the map. I guess it did force people to come out of their bases sometimes towards the middle, but there were plenty of maps where that wasn’t the case, particularly where power weapons spawned at or near the base.

With ordinance drops now, people move around a lot more, in my opinion. I had one campy game on Adrift so far, but other than that, I’ve seen tons of movement. Much more so than in previous Halo games. People don’t camp spots waiting for weapons, and not having those power weapons keeps them from becoming entrenched in a spot which is exacerbated by a weapon that works perfectly in that spot. I’m not making a claim as to whether these drops are better, only that I’ve observed them to create more movement and action on maps. But that’s just my observation from 200 games or so.
