The Real Problem With Halo 5

Is the community hates change. Seriously, everything new in H5 gets hate, often before content is even released. Think about the most common complaints we get on here. Spartan charge new, sprint new, new weapons like hydra and plasma caster get loads of negative feedback, slight changes to previous armor, changes to gametypes, etc. Even new maps get hate. The biggest problem with this community is they’re stuck in the past and refuse to adapt. People LOVE map remakes from old games and nostalgia weapons but start a lynch mob the second you say 343 added a change to anything.

I’ve played Halo 1-4 and the only game I haven’t had was reach, and I’ve enjoyed the -Yoink- out of every one of them I did play because I’ve always gone into them with an open mind.

If Halo dies it’s because the Halo fanbase hates change in general. I’ve seen posts hating on H5 say ‘it’s not that hard to evolve while keeping the core gameplay alive,’ but that’s -Yoink-. What ideas could people have to refresh the feel of halo that are better than what 343 introduced? Seriously I’m open to suggestions cause so far I’ve only seen hate with no solution. Right now it seems like people just want H3 or Reach again verbatim. That would not only be boring and completely kill the population. If I bought a new Halo game only to discover it was a carbon copy of the last game with a new campaign and maps I would quit on the spot. That’s called an expansion not a new game.

I think 343 went in the right direction adding spartan abilities that showcase just how powerful a spartan can be. The people that hate spartan charge just don’t have enough experience with it or refuse to change their gameplay on account of it and then scream for classic halo cause they can’t or won’t adapt. I think sprint was a smart move because it gives the player more to think about and use. Look, I loved the past Halo games, but people need to get over the fact that their H3 skillset is outdated, and instead of complaining about it learn to improve using the new system. The only thing choking this community to death is its own reluctance to move forward in any way.

I knew exactly what this was gonna be about once I read the title, but I didn’t expect it to be stated in the very first three words. Kek.

“ITS YOUR FAULT FOR NOT LIKING THE GAME.” Yeah, no.

“You’re just nostalgic.” And you’re just spouting generalizations.

“I;m open to suggestions.” No, you’ve made it very clear you’re actually not.

I too keep an open mind.

It’s mainly on the forums that people give it so much hate. Most of my friends (who have never even been on the forums) don’t complain about any of the stuff people get buttmad about here.

People seem to forget how small a percentage of the Halo population is actually here on waypoint. Normal people don’t notice or care about most of these things.

I personally think it’s all fine, but many others here are going to say that I’m just “settling for garbage” or a “343 fanboy” etc. etc. I like Halo 5 the way it is, deal with it.

FYI, the hydra and caster are now fixed. They work really well compared to what they were like. I get kills with both regularly.

You missed everything I just said. I’m not saying if you don’t like the game you have to play it, I’m saying people need to be more open minded about changes before they start a hate train.

What generalizations? The only citation I offered was about regular complaints on the forum and if you disagree that those topics are frequent then you clearly don’t browse here too often.

In what possible way did I seem unopen to suggestions? Seriously? Not once did I use something someone else suggested as a bad example, I said there were no examples cause there aren’t.

You’re clearly the closeminded type of player I’m referring to. Your entire reply has almost nothing to do with anything I’ve said.

As long as the WZFF is up to my standard its fine.

I have 11 hours on this game. If it was a matter of “adapting” and “accepting change”, I would have accepted sprint, and spartan charge already. The amount of downsides to these abilities are there, that doesn’t mean I should just accept it and move on.

You say that players who won’t adapt to change is what is killing the franchise.

I say that change is what is killing the franchise.

I never thought they were broken to begin with, just misused. :stuck_out_tongue:

That’s my point. You think change is a bad thing, but why? I don’t know your personal motivations for that statement, but I’d wager they fall under what I would describe as ‘simply hating change.’

What kind of change?

Good change is good. Bad change is bad.

This. Even the part about knowing what the thread was going to say before opening it.

Basically, if you can logically justify why the players are the “problem” for not enjoying something (en masse) then please do enlighten us. Because that burden of proof is on you.

What type of change would be good?

Jocular, you also claim that old games would “kill” the population. Well, the Call of Duty franchise would like to have a word with you. Can you imagine how many dislikes the Infinite Warfare trailer would have were it not for the CoD 4 reveal at the end?

Also, no one wants a remake. We got that in the form of MCC and, once it was working, it was a nice product.

You also couldn’t be more wrong when it comes to the community rejecting change. Halo 5 is widely heralded as the smoothest Halo gameplay in the entire franchise. People from casual players to pros have made this claim. The problem with Halo 5 is more about how its handled than the actual gameplay. I.E. Rehashed, decade old content being labeled as “Free DLC.”

I mean it’s subjective but a few quick examples.

-Valid additions to the sandbox.
-New modes (not even necessarilly arena modes)
-New Campaign mechanics (For example I would not mind experimenting with ordnance and squad systems)
-Improved Forge
-Additions to gameplay that don’t alter its fundamental concepts (such as slide, mancannons, low-grav zones, etc)

You know, things that build on what’s already there instead of saying “HALO WON’T SELL, WHO ACTUALLY LIKES HALO LOL? BETTER PANDER TO THE COD CROWD FOR PROFIT” then subsequently turning the franchise upside down.

QFT.

Halos CE through Reach all had major changes in game play for each game. I will name just one major change (IMO) that each game introduced, which made a big change in how they played. Halo 2 introduced dual wielding. Halo 3 eliminated that and introduced equipment. Halo: Reach introduced Spartan abilities.

Gee… a good bit of change for those who are just nostalgic, “hate change” or are “stuck in the past” I’d say.

Anyone who wants to come up with a fair reason that the Halo fans who want the game to go back to its roots are “stuck in the past” and/or want the game to play the way it did pre-343, when the game’s past is just as filled with change, feel free to do so with reasoning that doesn’t make me laugh.

cliffs:
blah blah blah it’s the communities fault for not liking the masterpiece of Halo 5

WRONG
Halo lacks quality now, it’s an average FPS at best. Do you not remember when Halo would launch 100% complete, AAA game with every feature you could imaging to keep you occupied for years? I do, and I don’t let this crap slide. This game is the very definition of a travesty to the Halo name.

Wrong again, this game didn’t sell well in the real, physical world you live in.

I had my friends over for co-op at launch, had to explain to them there was no co-op, we hauled over 3 extra TV’s and Xbox ones (huge investment btw), and everyone of my friends along with me kinda just thought it was meh. And it was meh, the campaign was terrible, when we wanted to play multiplayer it was too competitive, when we wanted to try forge it wasn’t available, when we wanted BTB it wasn’t there.

The game is so damn meh I can’t believe people stand up for it. I mean it’s full of micro-transactions being forced down our throats with such consistency that it makes me sick, they completely ruined armour customization and the progression system that was awesome in previous games.

I dunno man…that’s the way it is, the game is average and people like me who hype up the Halo name to our friends are left looking like fools when we invest all this money in a game only to be -Yoink- on. It seems 343i did everything in their power to maximize profits without maximizing the quality of the game, from REQ’s to removal of split screen, to misleading ad’s regarding the campaign. How can you expect Halo fans to fall for this stuff? I really think the supporters of this game are all young kids who can’t seem past the BS that is Halo 5
