So, I reckon that the real problem is the diversity of it’s community.
For everyone who wants one option there’s two or three who want an alternative. It’s impossible to please everyone.
You could argue they haven’t catered to the customs community, evidence being the cut corners in forge and the loss of wild gametypes like Race and Fiesta. But they haven’t catered to the competitive scene either because there’s no MLG, Lone wolves or any other Ranked playlists, nor is there a competitive ranking system.
It seems that in their effort to please everyone coupled with the pressure of this being their first game, 343 has pleased a relatively small amount.
If you want to know how bad it is, people are actually going back to Reach, divisive as that game was.
Also couple it with the fact that they are trying to combine two genres of shooters that being classed based and arena style. They are trying to appeal to way to many types of gamers and in doing so appeal to no one.
Personally, I think the problem with Halo 4 is the new fans that it is attracting. They have no respect for the other games, they just want something thats new and cool to them.

Yup an arena style shooter being bashed by people who like classed based go figure. I think ive honestly given up hope on arena shooters after this mess.

Bashing Halo 3 is like trying to punch a steel wall, it doesn’t hurt the wall; but you look like an idiot afterwards.
OT: It’s really because they try to create a class based shooter and balance it like an arena shooter. Arena shooter fans don’t want to play it because the OP guns break the flow and would be better as on map pickups, and the class based shooter fans don’t like it because the guns are imbalanced.
If 343 can’t handle the task of satisfying the mosaic of players that play Halo for different reasons, that’s their issue.
Bungie was able to do it, and I imagine that 343 has more resources at their disposal than Bungie ever did. In no way can the communiy/communities be blamed.

I think it’s the other way around really. The majority of people I see bashing this game are the ones who want H3 re released every 3 years.

I realised something the other day. Reading one of the many complaint threads, a particularly overly aggressive poster defending the game regurgitated the “If you want HALO3, Go play HALO3” bile. It occured to me that I would still drop 400msp if they released a new map pack. The only reason i stopped playing H3 is that my buddies stopped and eventually traded in their coppies. Really missing it about now.

That is because the people defending halo 3 played halo because it was an arena style shooter. Halo 4 is a hybrid of arena and class based and ultimately appeals to no one. If they would have went either full classed based or full arena based shooter it would have been fairly fun. But as it stands its in the middle and appeals to no side.
Well, I am pleased with every halo game and with pretty much every first person shooter. Halo 4 has a lot of major flaws including the new community. They yell, scream, and play music just like the call of duty community. I would really like things added as most of you would too. But that won’t fix all the problems.
The REAL problem with Halo 4 is that it’s called Halo 4. If it was called anything else it wouldnt get all the mindless hate In the TU 343i is fixing most of the issues discussed on the forums and I’m willing to bet people will still complain. The newest Halo is always doomed to fail miserably and ‘die’.
