The real problem with forge... the lighting

I’ve seen, and agree with, people on here complaining about how ugly Forge seems to be. It really is not pretty at all. But after going back to Halo 4 Forge videos, and some H2A ones as well, I have come to the conclusion that it is only ugly because everything is so shiny. H2A seems to have the exact same pieces, only they aren’t blindingly shiny. If 343i wants to really make Forge the best it can possibly be they have to reduce the shinyness that the current lighting system creates, and let the beautiful simplicity shine through.

its all glowy

but you should be able to change the time of day

not sure about weather though

There is an option for every piece to modulate a metallic effect.

You can also change the time of day, and position of cloud shadows, if that’s anything like weather.

I hope that the current maps only look like they do because they chose to use dusk for all of them, and that mid-day or night will make them look a lot better.

EDIT: in a Gamespot video released earlier they showed that you can mess with things like cloud cover, so that’s kind of like weather I suppose.

Recurve in a nutshell. When your oh-so-neato post processing makes it physically painful to look at half the map, you -Yoinked!- up. And I don’t know why I have to explain this to both an individual who was ostensibly one of the best forgers in the world and the developer of a AAA flagship franchise.

I always thought the problem with Halo 5’s forge was the lack of texture on the forge pieces? Seriously! The forge blocks look like something that can be made in a 3D modeling program in 5 minutes or less.

Forge already has problems ?

Halo 4 looks similarly though. The only real difference between 4 and 5, visually, is the lighting.

Have you seen the maps they released? They are ugly as -Yoink-. I’m just saying they are only ugly because of the lighting, and not necessarily because the pieces are all ugly.

Have you seen the video on all the options for lighting for it yet it just came up this morning , maybe you should try playing with the lighting first after comes out.

Honestly I can’t tell the difference in the lighting in either game. It seems like what constitutes as good lighting to 343 is adding lens flares that would make J.J Abrams jealous. :stuck_out_tongue:
