The real issue with REQ system

It comes from the permanent unlocks and how they are tied to the unforgiving -Yoinks!- that are the RNG gods. It is maddening when you’ve been grinding for ranks and packs, and you have no way of knowing if you’ll get the 2 items you want (whatever they are) out of the hundreds of possibilites. I haven’t heard anyone complain about how long it takes for an ultra rare certification, or a mythic, or a legendary. And for those things, I have 0 problems with the REQ system - it’s totally fine or maybe even good. But I have seen most everybody on these forums raging that the armors or loadout weapons (cough, Halo 2 BR) they really want aren’t tied to any achievement or predictable unlock through experience. Never fear, I have a solution! It involves taking a look back to Reach, which many might think had the best customization…
Simply SPLIT the REQ system from the progression system! What I mean is, make the armor unlock system mirror Reach’s system - as you play the game more, your level of experience increases and allows you the option of buying new armors that become unlocked with in game credit currency (just like Reach). Maybe even extend this to loadout weapons for Warzone, to give the incentive to keep playing after your REQS or armory are at 100% complete. After each match, in arena or Warzone, you earn EXP credits, which go to armor and/or loadout weapons (it’s your choice in my system) and you earn REQ points, used just like they are now.
Reach and even H4 had better progression systems that H5 does, and while I like the gameplay of H5 as much as Reach, the REQ system leaves a lot to be desired. I think my idea solves the frustration of armor unlocks that many Halo players have, while still implementing the REQ system 343i is loving using to grab more cash from the player base (as I know first hand). What do you think, make EXP credits separate from REQs and bring back true customization? Or, do you have an even better idea? I wanna know
TL;DR - the solution to being frustrated with RNG yielding the stuff you want is making a progression system like Reach for armor items only, and separate the weapon req system from that and keep it the way it is so the free update model still works

agreed sir

343 screwed up. Hopefully H6 will be identical to Reach and 4s and with 5’s gameplay

You do realize that would make it longer to get an armor you may want? Nothing wrong with the req system. The grind isn’t as bad as going for inheritor.

I wish they would have had the bronze give you 1 permanent unlock instead of the 50% chance. Silvers are ok with 2 but the gold should have been 3-4. It at least would have sped up the process of unlocking all those customization items.
Another idea would have been a daily and/or weekly challenge. Daily would be common-uncommon customization as a random pack awarding a helmet and armor set, while weekly would have been rare-mythic?

Not a half bad idea. I could get behind this with a little more detail involved.

ummmm no -Yoink- it would take longer, it keeps players coming back to have long term unlocks, at predictable points so you could manage your time/currency to get what you wan. I also didn’t talk about rank, which is what inheritor was, I was talking about armor item unlocks. You didn’t have to be inheritor to get inclement weather in reach or the gold visor or the mark VI. Inheritor was cool but level based rank is not what I’m talking about so…

These forums, Reddit, and team beyond would disagree with you that the req system is fine as is. And I stipulated that the req system is fine for weapons and certifications for weapons, just make armor separate… So idk what you’re after here?

I loved daily/weekly/monthly challenges! Can’t believe I forgot to mention them but yes they would be so FREAKING welcome to the system I proposed or the current system… I think that the rewards for the challenges you mentioned are a little too generous tho, maybe they reward a gold pack or an increasing amount of REQ points for you to spend how you like??

I think we’ve had enough of Halo’s current gameplay direction. Halo 5 has excellent gameplay, yes, but they really only need to keep Halo 5’s superior weapon balancing. Make the next Halo game play otherwise like CE or 2. (Not 3, though, 3 doesn’t need to be repeated.)

I’m no developer this just seemed like a good system to increase the players’ enjoyment and longevity in the game. It’s just my idea, what details would you like to see? How would you modify my idea for the system?

That would be a really good idea. But for people to just be able to buy the ultra rare and legendaries… Idk man seems OP

Idk what you mean? I didn’t say they could buy legendary weapon REQS, I specifically said the req system for weapons was great. I also said you would be able to buy the armor with earned in game credits like reach… No one said buying legendary REQS was a thing armor or otherwise…

The problem is that when you unlock them you have to find them in packs.

Who said that unlocks have to be opened in packs? My idea was that is a totally different system, stated it pretty clearly… Did I miss something?

I stopped reading after you said splitting the REQ system into the that god awful Reach progression system.

The REQ system is fine.

Such a helpful little troll! If you read these forums, and others, a lot of people hate it. glad you like handing 343 extra money tho, I sure don’t but different strokes

Could not agree more. Literally, LITERALLY the best response ever, 343 should do exactly that for the next game. Thank you sir for speaking true wisdom! CE +H2 + h5 weapon balance + halo reach art style/armor system = SPLOOOOOOSH best game yet

The only way I see this coming from 343i would be to then make everything that you said should be bought with EXP points purchasable with a high amount of REQ points and therefore leading to the implementation of REQ points as a purchasable item with money, kinda like cod points in BO3. The system would be great the way you described it but 343i would want to make up where they would be losing on REQ sales.

So because I don’t agree with you I’m a troll? HAHA that’s -Yoinking!- hilarious. Yea I know the little sheeps on this forum hate it, but I am my own person.

Hey it’s one thing if you’re actually spending money on the reqs then using your spartan points, I sure as hell would not waste so much money on REQS.

Atleast its not like cod bo3 where it gives you duplicates over and over like crappy weapon camos you won’t use and weapon attachment skins that you dont even notice anything plus weapons that could take 80 dollars of supply drops for a 1% chance of one dropping and thats hopeing its not a duplicate.
