For 4 players around the same rank the ranking system can work fine, but at times the ranking system is completely broken based on who you are playing with.
The formula of the ranking system somehow takes the average CSR of both teams and levels you up or down accordingly when you win or lose. So if I had 3 diamonds on my team and we beat 4 low onyxs I would level up a lot, say 15-20 CSR. But with 3 higher champions on my team I would only level up 1csr for a win, or lose a ton for a loss.
Heres my example from today:
I was champ 113 at CSR:1997 in swat.
I had champ 7,10 and 25 on my team.
We played 13 games against onyx and champion teams and went 11-2. All 11 wins I gained 1csr, both losses I lost 30 CSR.
So after going 11-2 I went from CSR 1997 to 1948 and from champ 113 to champ 140.
I had to stop playing with those friends even though it was fun dominating, because I would eventually have lost my champ even if we won 9/10 games.
If I would play with the same 4 people but two would be on secondary smurf accounts that were platinums, we would play diamonds and low onyx players and I would go up 20csr for wins and down 5 for losses.
Just look at the swat leaderboards. Crow and online dater are champ 1 and 2 and they play with 2 bronze accounts and that’s why they have 10,000+ CSR. Because they dominate platinums and diamonds and go up 30csr a game.
I don’t think I need to explain how that ruins the game for people of all skill levels.
My rant is over.
Theres a huge flaw in the ranking system.
I don’t know what the best solution is, but the ranking system is broken.

UPDATE: As an experiment I played 11 games with 3 friends that were unranked in swat. We went 11-0 and from those 11 wins I gained 139csr, vs only gaining 1csr per game against much harder opponents with champs on my team.
Crazy how backwards that is.
