Hi I’m very new to all this forum stuff, especially when discussing Halo.
I was wondering how exactly does the ranking system work? I recently completed 10 games in the Arena / Slayer & I got Plat 1. I’m not sure whether that’s good, bad, epic or nooby… So can someone kindly tell me how does it work & even the different ranks there is available? My first reaction was Plat 1 sounds pretty good especially as I haven’t properly played Halo multi-player since Halo 3… It took some getting used to that’s for sure!
Thanks in advance I hope to be a part of the Halo community more in the future!

That’s about average to decent. However, the system isn’t 100% accurate as of yet, it’ll take a while to stabilise.
The system doesn’t work. It is utterly flawed.
The tiers are:
Champion (Top 200 CSR) - Onyx (CSR) - Diamond (1-6) - Platinum (1-6) - Gold (1-6) - Silver (1-6) - Bronze (1-6)I may be wrong, but you only ever get placed in league 1 for each tier you hit. From here, you have to boost your CSR Rating (based on win percentage) to allow you to be promoted through the other 5 leagues of your tier, before you’ll be promoted.
It should be that all placement matches start from Bronze 1 (if there even are any players in Bronze). If the player wins their first match, they should be set at Silver. If they lose their second match at Silver, they remain there. If they win their third match, they will remain silver (because of the previous loss), if they lose the third match, they would become Bronze again. This basically allows players to move up to the category they really should be in to begin with, playing at least 5 placement matches at their actual skill level (which should round out at about a 50% win/loss ratio). This would mean that when you hit platinum, you aren’t likely to find players with a KDA of -4.5 to -6.0 in your league, on your team. The ranking system should also factor in match KDA (not average) without just relying on Win/Loss. Since MVPs can be on either team, and even though they are literally performing at their best, its not uncommon to receive sweet F.A. as an MVP because your randomly matched team have about as much intelligence and skill as a grape.
If it were my system, the leagues would require at least a 50% win ratio, and a required placement KDA as follows:
Champion (Top 200 CSR) - Onyx (6.0+ (CSR rated)) - Diamond (3.0 to 6.0) - Platinum (0 to 3.0) - Gold (0 to -3.0) - Silver (-3.0 to -6.0) - Bronze (-6.0 +)This way, if you did lose all 10 games, and had a KDA of 11.2, you’d actually be placed in Diamond. Because despite losing all your games, you’ve actually played well beyond the skill requirement for each of the 10 placement games. The player wouldn’t be in Onyx as they wouldn’t have a CSR rating and their win percentage would be 0, so they would be required to win 10 games at Diamond level 1 in order to progress to Diamond level 2 (it’s not ideal, but its fairer).
You do realize that the Pro players have K/Ds around 1.3-1.6, right?
Matchmaking makes it so Pros play vs. Pros and their KDs stay really low, so you can’t use raw KD to decide your rank, unless you stop matchmaking. But if you stop matchmaking, the game is terrible for most players because of H5’s skill ceiling.
Also, you can’t start at the bottom, because then players who truly belong at the bottom will get owned in every one of their games.
I’ve reviewed the stats behind how it places you, and though not perfect, they are the fastest I’ve seen in any game to date.
Sure, there are random placement errors, but those wash out pretty darn fast.
Ranking and matchmaking is full of compromises like this, and H5’s choices seem amazing to me.
