I’m about to rant because I feel like ppl are just stupid…
the the ranking system works…it needs little tweaks but it works…I have 20 hrs on two accounts both which I started off silver but one of them I have ranked up to gold 2 and close to onyx
first off its competitive rank…they are ranking u off how well you complete the objective…not on how well you killed someone…so if you can’t win, either get a group so u can win or play better…because u suck at the game mode honestly
second off…I don’t want to hear I have a high win loss because based on ur rank if ur going solo ur probably playing ppl u should beat which is why u get small Xp boost…because as a silver playing with teamates that are onyx or higher I faced nothing but semi and onyx in matcghmaking every win I got between 15 and 20 Xps which ranked me higher
third the closer you get to the next rank…ie silver III to gold u start to face tougher opponents…if u can’t beat these opponents u will de rank and go back to silver II
and finally i don’t know why ppl don’t understand this but if you can’t consistently beat the ppl in your tier…ie silver…or higher wtf makes u believe u will be good at the next tier and if you say it’s because you can kill ppl ur naive…because believe the higher the rank the more likely they will be in parties…
the ranking system works…when I was playing alone agains silvers and below I would rekt ppl unless they were in parties as soon as I started playing higher ranked teamates I became the anchor holding them back
update- ninja edit
i do understand a lot of ppl frustration from getting low xp by playing against ppl he have not earned rank yet or are lower rank…I feel this will hopefully be fixed when the game comes out and there are more players…I feel there is just not enough players right now
I couldn’t agree more, it’s less of a ranking system but more of skill filter. It does need some tweaks but overall it creates fair matches which makes the game fun in return.

Thank you…ppl can’t seem to wrap there head ard this…it’s about winning…and they don’t want lopsided matches…I also believe it will be so much better when there are more ppl playing the game
Yep exactly. People who want it to be “skill based” just want a broken abusable ranking system where no one goes for the objectives and no one helps their team mates

I just think they need a new playlistt like free for all…which would actually rank you based on individual performance
I don’t mind it but on slayer when I was ranked with Gold II, I was on a 7/10 win streak and on breakout I got a 10/10 streak and was ranked as silver II. Needs to be tweaked but I don’t really care one way or the other

Yeah same happened to me…I think the initial 10 games take into account how well you performed individually and who you were playing with…I was playing with three ppl we won all our games but me and another guy got ranked bronze and one of us was ranked onyx…but mind you that he was also ranked onyx in slayer and he outperformed us…we actually would not have won all ten games without him
It is good but does need some tweaking.

Ya but the problem is I am way better at breakout than I am at slayer (not saying I am bad) I am not over exaggerating when I say that my victories were my own I had to drag a lot of teammates along and would always have to pull us back from a 1v2 or 1v3
It needs to be tweaked, but is very similar to the 1-50 ranking system people are raging about.
Personally I find there to be too few ranks. 343i is not taking longevity into account. I’m not even hooked on Halo 5 and that’s a genuine surprise. I have no reason to play Halo 5 if I, for example, take one step forward and two steps back with the errors in this “new” ranking system. I win one match in Halo 5 and go up 12 points. I lose a match after that and go down 14. Regardless of it being a two point difference. In the first match when I got 12 points, I literally carried my team with 20+ kills only to get spanked the next match because of teammates not in my skill range. I was matched up with people who DIDN’T EVEN GET PLACED IN A TIER YET. I’m Gold, so keep that in mind. I’ve pretty much decided I refuse to put any more time into this godforsaken beta because its literally a waste of time. I’m just going to go to Reach or something, you know…to play a game that works.
I agree with most of the things said here, the only thing I don’t understand is if people get different start rankings after the first inital 10 games?
I Started playing that new gametype (breakout) a couple days ago. I won 9 out of 10 games (10 is what you need to get a ranking). I was the MVP in all of the winning games and best on losing team. After the 10th game I got a ranking of Silver… (I had like 7+ kills each game and 4 or less deaths)
My friends who I play with went in as a team of 3 and they all won only 7 out of 10, but they all got ranked differently, 2 Onyx and 1 gold? (They were going either Neutral or barely positive)
I am working my way up to that now, but is there a difference between if you go in solo or go in with a team what your ranking will end up? (Does it matter who you are matched up against?)
I think the progression scale is great, but the inital 10 games rank makes no sense. If I had more wins and better stats individually than they did as a team, how am I ranked below them initially? (Is it because they were in a team of 3 and I was solo?)
I just want to know if it is possible to get a higher ranking than silver only after just 10 games (going in solo), or if anyone else achieved higher? (I’m asking for only 10 games not afterward). It’s been very easy to move from Silver to Gold, its just time consuming (Took me about 10 or more wins in slayer to move up).
I don’t get how 9 out of 10 wins and being MVP each time is equivalent to silver; to me seems like it should at least be gold or onyx. (P.s. everyone else I played against in breakout was either unranked or gold or higher)
Anyone have any insight?
I play 19:5 and lose. -20. Seems legit. I lose less, when I play vs. better opponents, that’s right. But if you don’t play with good mates, you’ll never get higher. NEVER.

I go in solo all the time and carry the team to a win and moved up very easy from Silver to gold. You can get higher as long as you win.
My questions is purely just about the first 10 games, and the ranking from it.

The reason it works that way…is because u are probably facing better opponents the second match because you owned the first match…the best scenerio is to constantly face ppl of higher rank and the only way to do that is to be continually partied with higher ranked ppl

Same happened to us…what was your rank in slayr we think it has to do with previous rank…Iwe won 10/10 games and I was placed in bronze while one of my teamates went to onyx
it definitly matters who you go up against because it’s competitive ranks…so it’s looking at competition
i too am at a loss for the initial 10 games…it’s a conumdrum…I’ve done the initial 10 games four times and each time I’ve been ranked silver…I think it’s because I’m black lol…that was a joke…but seriously I don’t understand the initial 10…what’s funny is every pro I’ve watched has been i rials ranked semi pro or onyx initally
Agreed, and I think the initial ranking system is one of the problems that needs to be fixed. I think they’re probably still working on this and there would have to be some error with your initial ranking. I also think a larger pool of initial games should be taken into account, as many people will just be figuring the game out for the first 5 or so matches. I know this was the case for me, and since I was late to the beta I didn’t do as well as more experienced players. Now I have to play 50+ matches to get to a Gold level in slayer because I was ranked Bronze I originally.
I also think there should be a base + or - number for winning or losing, but the score gets adjusted based on your individual performance. That way you are still punished for losing, but not equivalent to (or for all I know based on the apparent randomness of it, worse) than someone that went 0-15.

Can’t carry 12-year-old 2:16-guys. And in my bumpkin league there are a lot of 2:16-guys.
It would be nice to see the 1-50 system come back or at least some form of it. And yes, longevity needs to be increased. Even if you are the halo Master it should take more than 3 months to be the top rank.
