There are lot of people who want a 1-50 ranking system, and a lot of people who want the current ranking system. Both have their ups and downs, 1-50 making it very easy to smurf and lower level players would get destroyed by someone climbing up the ranks, while the current system making it easier for you to get destroyed by other teams in your placement match.
What we need is a combination of the 2 systems. While in your placement matches, at first, you’d play others similar to your level (because the higher level you are, the more likely you are better player than someone who is lower than you). If you do bad or good, it’ll take you to the next balanced match with people near your level, and so on until you rank. Then you’d recieve your CSR and play it like it is now.
So what do you guys think? Do you think it’ll fix the current ranking system?

Players start in the middle ranks, as, when taking about the distribution of players skills we can use the normal distribution curve and start at the mean score. The means that new accounts will never be playing against the established lower ranks unless they too are starting over.
I would suggest a percentile score with cool sounding ranks within each percentile to better differentiate. I would be neat if we could see matches rated by how closely they’re matched, and have the affect to your rating weighted by this- though that sounds super tricky to make work.
All stats (like kdr or win-rate) should be calculated based on only a set number of previous matches and time frame (though all overall stats can be viewed).
I don’t mind seasons, as those can lend a level of excitement and drive to play, but I don’t like the idea of resetting ranks. This means that the method for rating a player needs to be accurate and efficient- and I don’t think that has really been working out well in games. The best method is a long term win/loss record but that assumes a lot to function well. If seasons could take previous seasons into account I think they might have greater integrity. So a previously low level seasoned player shouldn’t be playing a previously high level player except for in cases of mixed levels on premade teams. Maybe we go back to the normal distribution and attempt to use a standard deviation?

I don’t get how people think smurfing is a huge problem. Do you think skilled players want to sit there all day and play unskilled players. It’s not fun. You’ll have a few bad eggs but that does not ruin a good 1-50 ranking system. I think a good mix will be keep the divisions like we have now but each division has a 1 through 50 rank as well. This way true skill is shown and you matched within your overall skill range of players as well.

Simply, it is the same ranking system used in Halo 2-5. The difference is that it doesn’t place you and you don’t start at the bottom. It is very similar to a ELO system, which most ranking systems are based off of. Gold 1 would be 1200. Each tier would be a 300 difference. Bronze 1 would be 600. Onyx would be 2400. In Halo 3, the system behind the numbers 1-50 were similar to this. To be 30 in Halo 3, you had to fall between a set range in the system. Same with Halo 5’s system. Also the derank is essential to having an effective ELO ranking system.

Well nothing is perfect. I honestly completely dislike the current system. I don’t like how it resets. I like how it only takes 10 placement matches, and I don’t like how easy it is to manipulate.

Yes I have plenty of times, it’s boring when the skill gap is so great. I rather dominant a skilled teams and simply just outplay them. It’s a better reward and shows how good and or strong your team and strategy is.

Yeah I know its disgusting, this happens all the time as well, even when using focused. Its just ridiculous. Those guys were Champion 6 and Champion 3 vs a silver and an unranked who was previously gold… they have no excuses whatsoever with this one.
