The ranked points system is definitely broken, and seems to have gotten worse

I just solo queued into Ranked Crossplay at Onyx 1641 and gained a total of 4 points from 2 of my proudest wins ever.

First, I gained 3 points for going 17-11 and WINNING a 3v4 Slayer: https://halotracker.com/halo-infinite/match/875aa966-f135-4c4c-8b4c-b84527f686be

Next match, I gained 1 point for going 34-12 with 13 captures in a 4v4 Strongholds (we won): https://halotracker.com/halo-infinite/match/4eff6bc1-c9f9-47b2-a867-7e399ee8e1c0

I’ve also gained 0 points after going 20-8 in a big win: https://www.reddit.com/r/haloinfinite/comments/rs89fp/ranked_system_is_busted_just_gained_0_csr_going/

And many many times have gained 1 point for winning with a strongly positive KD. For example: https://www.reddit.com/r/haloinfinite/comments/rrdbep/ranked_matchups_still_need_to_be_tighter_257_win/

This type of stuff has been getting much more frequent lately. I lose 6-15 points for a loss, no matter how well I perform. And never gain more than 3-5 for a win, but typically less. Is this because I’m above Onyx 1600 now? I was in the 1500s for a long time and it wasn’t THIS bad.

I don’t understand how anyone could get to 2000+ when you have to win literally 90% or more of your matches. While the game matches you against evenly skilled opponents. It’s theoretically impossible to rank up the way it’s set up. Throw in the odd disconnect or game crash and lose 20 points, and there goes an entire day’s worth of wins.

What rating have your opponents been in these matches?

Usually pretty evenly matched, minimum 2-3 Onyxes on each team, sometimes a high Diamond or 2 on each.

The game shouldn’t match me against people too far below me if I won’t gain anything for winning it, but am doomed to lose a ton of rank if I don’t win.

Okay.
Matching lower rated opponents should affect how much you gain after a win. Not so much gained from beating players of lower ratings.

No of course you shouldn’t, but that’s down to other factors too, other than just rank.
Like, how big is the player pool to pick from? Low population means less availability of proper opponents.
Their network reliability? Etc.

It’s not great, but that’s one explanation.

Yeah I usually check the ranks for that reason, and did before posting this. Those 2 reddit threads I linked tell the ranks.

I would so much rather wait a few more minutes per match to ensure a matchup that won’t just be a waste of time.

Really what I should do is stop caring about the rank. It’s just a number, and since it seems broken anyway I shouldn’t take it as an indication of my skill. I’d enjoy the game more if I ignored it. But alas.
