No, it’s not spartan charge, it’s not the weapon spawn times, its not the kill times of automatics, it’s the damn radar. The radar as of right now is useless. It’s basically like a crappy GPS that tells you to make a turn about 10 feet of said turn. You have little to no time to react to it, and in this game it results in so many cheap deaths that could have been preventable if the radius was larger. I’ve heard that 343 made this change to accommodate the new movement speed and features. I say that this is complete BS. This doesn’t compensate for all of the new features, it makes it worse!
With the increased mobility, the radius should be larger, not smaller. It’s the same logic with designing a map; when you add sprint to the mix, you don’t make the map smaller, you make it larger to accommodate the new movement speed. Sprinting lowers your reaction time by a significant margin with this radar, and abilities like spartan charge are by far the cheapest ways to die in this game. It’s supposed to be a high risk/high reward, but with this crappy radar, it’s extremely hard to punish someone doing it when they don’t show up on radar. I’ve gotten kills on unsuspecting foes with this method and have been killed the same way. By the time the blip shows up on the radar, you have ZERO time to react to it!
I’m often seeing people saying that this prevents camping or lowers it. The truth of the matter is that it doesn’t reduce camping all that much. Camping is going to happen no matter what, but even then, the goal is to take control of the power weapons. Most people are going to go out there and try to get kills. Only a certain few will camp the map, and even then its not extremely game-breaking. It’s not like you spawn with a sniper rifle and can use it at the beginning of the match like in Destiny, but I digress. I often hear people call the radar a crutch, and I heavily disagree with this. The radar is supposed to be a tool in your arsenal like your shields and spartan abilities. The purpose of the Radar is to anticipate movement and make smart plays accordingly. When it doesn’t work correctly, then why even have it there? I understand that arena is heavily catered to teamwork and call-outs, but not everyone is going to be on a team of four making call-outs. It’s quite apparent that a large majority of the player-base does not like to use a mic, and even so, not everyone can respond to call-outs appropriately.
This radar change has made the game feel significantly less fun in my opinion. It’s like 343 wants you to not use the radar, but the fact that it’s there makes you want to use it. Honestly, the radar was much better in the beta. The radar has never been a problem in previous halo games, and the fact that so many people are complaining about it means that something is definitely wrong.
