It’s not really a casual experience, but I think the radar being so small is to encourage the loud sounds the players make when walking or running. If you take the time to stand a moment, you can hear footsteps pretty easily being much further away than your radar. And when you understand how they work, you can really hear them coming before they hit the radar. The only way they can avoid the sound is by being camo or crouching.
But then again, it’s not a casual experience and I believe 343i wants to avoid increasing radar range to make noises becoming irrelevant.

I find the audio cues to be be pretty poor in Infinite, to be honest. If they were better, I wouldn’t have as much problem with the radar distance.

That would be great if the audio cues were reliable and consistent. 1 grenade explosion and sounds seem to change direction and intensity. Plus sometimes their is so much background trash noise going on that audio cues get lost or muffled ie your ai chatting bollocks or the firefight on they other side of the map drowns out close noises.

It encourages people to pay better attention to their surroundings instead of letting the motion tracker do all the work for them.
the radar encourages you to die because checking it distracts you from enemies who are well within optimal kill range while still standing outside the radar.
it either needs to be brought back to 25 meters or removed entirely imo

I’ve thought the same thing, and frankly, if that’s the case I’m really disappointed in the lack of understanding at creating a balanced experience across all skill ranges. Audio focussed games like that are not only skewed heavily towards the skill ceiling, it also makes playing without headphones an outright disadvantage (as well as heavily rewarding people for buying headphones with surround sound, etc). It goes against part of why Halo was so accessible and fun for players across ALL skill ranges.

I play ranked silent. I guess I eat nails for breakfast
Yes i find it impossible to hear enemies footsteps. I literally don’t think I’ve ever heard them.

that, and Deaf/Hard of Hearing players would get screwed over too

Listen? To what? I can’t hear anything on this game. If someone is blasting me from three feet away I can barely hear their weapon or tell what it is and my shield does next to nothing in terms of audio to indicate I’m losing shield. Yes, I’ve changed to compressed and so on and so fourth. The audio needs massive improvement.
