The Purpose of H2A & H2 Classic

Hi guys. I’ve seen a lot of different opinions about the way Halo 2 anniversary looks, and how its changed from the original game. Since they’re both included in the MCC, I wanted to better understand WHY 343 created what they did.

I’d like to know what you think about targeting Halo audiences:

Please leave your opinion or response to the video here and in the comments!

I’ve always subscribed to the axiom that “casual” and “competitive” videogames aren’t mutually exclusive, and that a well designed game doesn’t have to explicitly separate the two in order to entertain both sides of the spectrum (is it even a spectrum?).

That being said, I do agree that part of 343’s intent with H2A is to provide a window of entry to new players and an object with which to advertise MCC.

As for Halo 2 being a 10-year old game making it inaccessible, I actually disagree. Old multiplayer games are hard to get into because the online population becomes low over time and the people playing tend to be very good. With MCC, Halo 2 will be highly populated by players of all skill levels and matchmaking will “start fresh” and allow noobs to play other noobs.

That being said, I do think that H2A will be an easier game to play than H2 and will become more newcomer/scrub friendly as time goes on.

Also, I know you played some of that on Xlink because the gametypes were Spanish haha.

I hope you’re right. I’d love to think new gamers still enjoy a challenging game. I think having full populations and easy accessibility again will certainly help.

And actually that gameplay was all from H2 vista. I must have joined a foreign lobby. Thanks for the reply!
