So as most of us know, there have been two voice actors to have portrayed the Prophet of Truth. Michael Wincott portrayed Truth in Halo 2, and because he didn’t reprise his role in Halo 3, Terence Stamp served as his replacement in Halo 3. Because of this, the personality traits and voice for the Prophet of Truth were noticeably different from each other. Truth in Halo 2 seemed more stoic and manipulative, while he seemed highly zealous and borderline insane within Halo 3.
Is there a canonical explanation for this shift in personality? Or do thing think that this should be solely attributed to the change of voice actors/other factors, and not anything related to the game’s storyline?
Think it had something to do with the niggling in the back of his head that he was about to lose a 50 year long war with “Vile” heretics and the entire structure of his religion was falling to shambles just as they found the ultimate Relic of their religion.
He probably went into denial and teensy bit insane.
While I do think it’s mainly to do with the voice actors, I just finished 3 again today and I do feel that Truth is far more zealous and devout then he ever was before.
I suppose when your entire empire is falling to pieces and the moment you’ve been waiting ages for is at hand you would throw caution and sanity out the window too.
Well, in Halo 2, he still has to work with two other Prophets, and the Elites were still the main military force. Halo 3, he has complete on unquestioned control of everything.
Some good points have been posted here. But I really wish that 343i will one day produce an in-depth summary of what the Prophet of Truth was going through during Halo 3. Unfortunately Halo 3 greatly diminished the role of covenant characters.
