So, in the latest Sparkscast, they were talking about the Promethean enemies seen at E3. A lot of it was stuff we already know, but on bit caught my eye (or ear, I suppose).
Frankie (either him or David) said that they’d try not to use the old code names for the Promethean enemies because it could give something away (or something along those lines). When one of the designers (I think his name was Matt?)was talking about the Watcher, he mentioned that the Watcher spawns pawns. Obviously he’s talking about the Crawlers, and at first I just thought he’d used that word to describe how the Watcher commands the Crawlers or something, but when they were talking about the design of the Knight he mentioned that it launches the Bishop(Watcher) out of it’s back.
So in my mind, something clicked and I was reminded about something I’d read in the Bulletin:
> If you had the opportunity to hang out with Master Chief for a day, what activities would you do? –Kalamari
>
> Obviously me personally, I would do a bench press contest, or wrestle. But you guys? Chess.
Pawn, Bishop and Knight? I wonder if there’s a Promethean enemy named after each chess piece? The actual enemies, the Crawler, Watcher and Knight are sort of similar to the chess pieces in function, so I wonder if there’s a Promethean counterpart to each piece? What do you guys think?
Here’s a couple of things to think about:
> King and Queen. Gee, I wonder who those could be…
cough Didact cough Librarian cough
> Queen Cortana? Could be a cool plot change as she’s going rampant, right?
Here’s another thing, the Queen, King and Rook could be Promethean vehicles (King could be a mobile command centre/unit (maybe the “Cryptum”, the large Orb from the trailer), while the Queen could be something similar to a Scarab.
