I 100% agree with this and as a long time halo fan I stopped playing and didn’t want to play again on the first day because I found myself trying over and over to do these ridiculous challenges, I was really hoping for a progression system like in Halo mcc. I would rather pay for the game and get a battle pass system and the quality like in Halo mcc then play for free but have literally no progression at all. Very disappointed
Not wrong !! At a million in on 150 ( Halo 5 ) you’re only half way there. I have had to accept the situation that I will simply never get the time to make it to 152. After playing HUNDREDS of games on each of the maps, ‘grind’ is an understatement.
I agree I do understand, I don’t have anything against this system if 343 added it on top of a more classic system like H5, for now, I feel like I’m playing for nothing and that I have to get the Pass to have rewards in the game and that bothers me(gameplay fun is good but not enough to me)
Tbh looking at the waypoint app it seems like alot more will be coming out giving more customization. But that doesn’t warrant the trash core system
I am starting to feel a little the same way. Halo CE, back in 2002, got me away from Nintendo. The ‘microtransactions’ , ‘loot box’ and now ‘battlepass’, instituted by games companies ( EA and Bethesda are two that stick out ) are starting to get my blood boiling. I don’t mind paying for a disc, with the game on it, then the devs and company itself, get paid, I realise that it’s a business. I get really cranky, when I am then stung for more. I also get cranky when the game on the disc is not finished and it takes months, sometimes years, for it to be fixed, with dozens of downloads and updates ( not talking about MCC type challenges, I like those ). We as customers, yes we are gamers, but also customers, seem to be constantly getting shafted. My patience is starting to wear thin with Microsoft and a lot of games companies, full stop.
They need to revise this system now, not later.
They’re treating it like an extraneous aspect of the game without realizing that it’s quite literally everything that we work towards.
The gameplay is awesome and I’m having a blast, but finishing a good (or bad) game and getting a only single check for a 4-game quest that only gives a meager amount of XP is the most disappointing feeling in the world.
Even their “XP per match via challenge” compromise is a punishment for not doing your weekly challenges. You can go whole games with nothing to show for it, and that’s a problem.
Change the XP system with those obligatory game mode completions. At the moment the need tot either comply with the games wishlist and not actually promote playing the objectives.
- GIVE XP FOR INDIVIDUAL SKILLS
- GIVE XP PROGRESSION PER PLAYED GAME
- MAKE CHALLENGES UNIVERSAL FOR ALL MULTIPLAYER MODES
- MAKE CHALLENGES FUN
The Title of this post is absolutely right, it kinda feels like the want to force people to buy progression tokens (or what we like to call PAY TO WIN in the gaming world).
Do you mean that the players who were asking for more of Reach’s art style and progression trashed all over it? Or that 343 trashed it?
That doesn’t matter, you know this system is just not fun. And doesn’t promote playing objectives or skill.
Stop pretending these things are acceptable. They are just after our money that’s it.
Really not a BP fan or the whole F2P thing. The progression system was better in the flights then now. I’m gonna play more tonight but as much fun as the game has been i might just stick with the campaign when it launchs till the figure it out from all the outcrys of the community.
The battle pass that resets every season shouldn’t even be thought of as the main progression. I want a 100% different XP/exp/p system that progress by military rank recruit to private, corporal ,sergeant, staff sergeant, gunnery sergeant, master sargent, sergeant major, then the sergeant major. Then Recruit, apprentice, seamen, all the petty officers, petty master chief , finally The Master Chief. Finally warrant officers, lieutenants, captains, majors, commanders, colonel,General, admiral, fleet admiral, and maybe a prestige system to do it all over multiple times
i’m saying that 343 trashed over it, yeah there’s ‘reach level’ of customization… but the limitations such as the cores, kits, and coatings. kinda make it as bad as 5. and come on… the progression system sucks.
like imagine in reach, Cr wasn’t earned as both spending points and xp, but as neither. weekly challenges were your only form of xp, and you have to pay for the Cr. would ruin the entire vibe of Reach
Agreed!
To be honest hough I’m doubting that there is the “Reach level” of customization even present here. Like they have added more things that are customizable, but I feel like there are less options per armor piece. From my perspective it seems like if I spend $60 on the game I’m getting much less than I did with Reach, the MP being f2p is totally irrelevant if the campaign is $60 alone.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts!
It really feels like they are kneecapping player retention to monetize player frustration. The challenges seem overly specific to encourage you to buy swaps, or boosts when when you have a challenge you actually want to complete. I’m enjoying the game but I’m certainly not going to stick with it (or buy the next battle pass!) if it doesn’t feel like my play is being rewarded. It is so deflating to go an an absolute tear, finish with a fat stack of medals, and the xp bar doesn’t even move, I turned the game off right there. It just feels so gross that I can tell 343 are trying to wear my patience down until I spend (more) money, it’s mobile game shit.
oh yeah! hole heartedly agree on that. like sure the campaign is ‘open world’ and what not… but come on, it’l just be a campaign. honestly this all seems like a way to get money. make the multiplayer free as an ‘excuse’ for ‘convenient limitations’ and microtransactions. and have the campaign be the only thing to pay for, for those who care about the story of halo, AND make it full priced 60… like come on, moneysoft is just milking a dead cow at this point -v-
I wish 343 just copied the MCC’s progression system for the battle pass. Challenges could award everything in the store and they could’ve charged a little extra for the season’s battle pass/challenges. Doing this would’ve prevented and eliminated every issue people are having today.
If I’m being completely honest, I played for 4-5 hrs last night and just tried to focus on the challenges rather than playing how I wanted and in the end I was annoyed and did not enjoy the majority of my matches. In fact the couple matches that I actually enjoyed were when I just said yoink it and did whatever I wanted, and at the end of those matches where I performed dramatically better I was rewarded (…drumroll…) nothing… To paraphrase, When I have fun playing and do well I get nothing.
I will also add that so many of my challenges are things that I would never try to do.
For instance here is a couple;
- Flatten an enemy with the repulser in pvp (I can’t even begin to express how many matches I helped lose and times I died trying to pull that one off).
- Kill 15 enemy Spartans with the sniper rifle in pvp (I am awful with the sniper and now I’m forced to only play btb and hope that I can find a sniper in every match and work my yoink off to eventually pull them off)
Overall, the system (especially keystone challenge/completing all weekly challenges) feels incredibly grindy and disincentives people from playing the way they choose. Core gameplay is awesome but not as much when I’m forced to only use a certain weapon and play in a specific way that I didn’t choose. If I don’t play the way 343i wants me to play then I get nothing, this especially sucks for anyone who spent real money on a “free game”. I really hope this is openly addressed and fixed quickly because as it stands, there is no point in playing the objective or actually trying to win (unless a challenge calls for it). Lastly, while I think OP’s title is a little intense, if this isn’t very openly addressed and quickly changed, they won’t be wrong.
It literally is terrible stop trying to pretend this is okay. Always a couple of people who will eat whatever crap is put in front of them and say please some more.
Halo Infinite needs per match Exp rewards. Per match credits would be nice as well, even if its only 5 or 10 credits per game, or per victory. These two changes would go a long way.
More F2P customization options would be nice. I would be happy with one item every 5 or 10 levels and maybe only 1 or 2 premium items per BP. Most of the premium stuff can be kept under the paid Battle Pass. I’m perfectly fine with that, and I’m sure most others would be as well.
Halo Infinite needs much improved Customization for F2P players and a much improved Progression system.
Did you even read his post? Just because he is not as angry as you doesn’t mean he is ok with it and asking for more.
I get that but it’s just cosmetics. If it gives me an advantage in the game than sure I’ll be all over it but I’m sure they will fix it for everyone.
