unless 343 addresses the progression system in Infinite and does a full redo… let us best not even bother with Infinite and go swiftly back to MCC, with the actually good games. Microsoft doesn’t deserve our money
100% agree. Play-lobby; play-lobby; play-lobby. I can’t do this for long. I need social, xp based ranks. Think reach, 343…think reach.
They already said they are looking at it right now about buffing the XP gain from matches. Also, a normal progression system is being built from the ground up. IF they buff the XP for the battlepass it will be fine till the normal progression arrives. But ya right now it’s terrible.
It’s a free to play game that has a non time limited battle pass where most of the items are. There is nothing wrong with charging for a battle pass on a free to play game.
Other franchises charge full price for a game and still charge for a battle pass. And those are time limited.
Really hope this goes somewhere and isn’t ignored. Not getting any XP is ridiculous.
Should just be similar to mcc progression. If it keeps being this slow I’ll just play the campaign. Too much to do between family, work and kids I don’t have time for a extra slow grind anymore.
Right. No one has the time to waste weeks of their life unlocking a helmet they don’t want.
This is what is important. I can get 5 triple kills, 4 carrier kills and 2 captures, and not earn any XP if I don’t get 5 kills with the god-awful commando rifle. There may aswell not be any performance medals, seeing as they don;t actually benefit you in any way.
The infuriating part is, as you mentioned, the disregard for objectives. I seriously think that the challenges should be exclusively objective-based, but used as a suplement to match performance XP. That at least gives people an insentive to play for the objectives, with increased XP gain. I can’t fathom how they even began to think this would be a good system, unless its moneysoft trying to implement super-covert anti-consumer tactics to rinse us of money for more BP levels.
Not having a permanent battle-pass included with the campaign is a huge spit in the face.
Heres the math (working in GBP):
BattlePass = 7.99 (1000 Credits)
Campaign = 60.00
60.00/7.99 = 7.5
If they are keeping the current battle-pass time-scale (7 months), that gives 7 battle passes with the cost of a single campaign purchase, equating to: 7*7=49 months.
49/12 = 4.08 Years of battle pass content.
Be serious now, the likelihood that this game will continue to be popular for 4-straight years, is very unlikely. BP sales will no doubt drop off, meaning less one-time BP purchases, decreasing at a steady rate throughout the games lifespan. If a significant number of players are buying the campaign at or before launch, thats a guaranteed 4 years of BP’s being sold per person. Its a no-brainer marketting-wise. We pay ridiculous money for a campaign, and are then expected to pay 1/6th of the campaigns price, every 7 months for cosmetics? Thats extortion. The game isn’t subscription based, but its straying into that territory very quickly, especially if they reduce the battle-pass timeframe.
Predatory micro-transaction dependent progression system has to go and so does the person who green-lit that decision.
Okay, let’s not say “kill the game,” come on now. We’re all gonna play it even if we don’t like the progression
and that doesn’t really mean anything to the devs. Helpful feedback is good, not trash-talking.
That said, I agree the current progression system is not a great one. I think the challenges-only system is a poor decision, as it limits players’ ability to play what they want to play and still progress in the game. I think XP should not be challenge-based, personally; it would also solve their XP boost problem if they made XP just medal-based or a simple performance-based system. The nchallenges could be used to get these special weekly rewards, and that in and of itself is enough reason to go for them, if the player cares.
I love playing the game, but in trying to grind for the weekly capstone IT just sucks the fun out of the game.
Most the objectives force me to play in ways I don’t find fun. I am a driver that is what I Am good at, don’t force me to play competitive for 3 matches just because I have to to continue the season and earn a cap stone.
This all said, the progression isn’t going to kill the game. But it isn’t a reason to play, right now the only reason I am still playing is because it is actually a fun game.
The gameplay is really freaking fun, the XP earning is dog crap and almost destroys the fun, and for many it has.
I just want to say that I really don’t like how the challenge system incentivizes players to do weird stuff like go for kills with certain weapons or vehicles and not just play the game normally.
When it’s the only form of progression, it just makes people play erratically instead of going for objectives. I really hope this system is changed otherwise I don’t see myself continuing to play multiplayer. Still looking forward to the campaign though.
The vehicle challenges are horrible. I have
kill 5 enemies with the wraith
kill an enemy with the wasp
kill 3 enemy ghosts
I still have never even seen a wraith spawn
I’ve sat and waited for a wasp all game and failed to grab it
No ghost kills after a half dozen BTB games
My progress has almost completely stalled out
If the progression system was just something similar to MCC, this would have been a perfect beta launch. Per match XP being non-existent in an FPS astonishes me to no end. Hopefully 343i makes the appropriate changes now rather than 6 months down the life cycle.
We just need something to fill the gaps while we wait for a better system. Increased XP gains, additional daily challenges, something that can ease the pain.
If I can get a steady drip of XP for every single match I play, whether or not I complete any weekly challenges, I’ll be content.
Right! Personally I’d much rather see the Reach system than the MCC stuff.
These systems use to be fun and enticing, making multiplayer games a fun rush and keeping them interesting for months, now it seems like they’re all dragged down by ridiculous amounts of monetization.
It’s funny to imagine how it would have been received if back with the release of Halo 4 343 had tried to pull this whole “armor coatings” thing. They would’ve been laughed out of the market!
Yeah it’s bad enough but I’ve already had 2 different weekly challenges that I can’t complete due to being bugged. Makes it even harder to lvl up on an already ridiculous leveling system.
I just looked at my next challenges coming up after having both the Heatwave and Pulse Carbine challenges not track for me, which I ended up using a Challenge Swap on the Pulse Carbine because you can’t get kills with it against most players. I currently have had a kill 3 Warthogs and get a Sniper kill, but then I have a Sniper kill while the enemy is launched through a man cannon, kill 3 Wasps and some Disrupter kills coming up. Just finding out that I have all these has killed my enthusiasm to continue playing, especially since the only 4v4 ranked mode forces crossplay with precision starts. This system doesn’t deserve money until its fixed.
I honestly don’t mind MCC as much, since, ya know, it’s all free and the challenges are fair. and it’s all rewarding!
But i digress… heh, i find it funny how people were so excited for the return of reach’s artsyle, and telling 343 to bring back the old progression system of Reach, and they proceeded to trash all over it xD
