The progression system will kill the game before it even launches

ah, don’t worry. it’s the old strategy to do something horrible and than change it for something still horrible, but slightly better to get credit for it. thats how the video game industry works.
but people keep on letting themselves being ripped off. welcome to “live service” games.

i couldn’t care less about the progression system, ranked is the only meaningful system atm that has some kind of value.

but please notice, that almost every part of customization (which i don’t care, but so many do) is locked behind a paywall, while the game keeps rubbing it in your faces (stances, coulors, etc…)

An additional 10, 15, 20, 50 max XP per played game is all that is needed to at least make it feel like it’s going somewhere.

For me, they need to do to things before I’ll play.

Adopt the same Progression System as Apex Legends where we have per match XP, Daily and Weekly Challenges and have some challenges me a guaranteed level up etc.

And the second, they need to increase the Aim Assist. It’s still weak as hell. They fix both, I’m sold.

I’m curious to hear how many points you’ve earned and how many hours of play time once you do complete. Assuming you maxed your dailies twice now?

Agreed. Going to keep my distance from the multiplayer until this is fixed.

Do people really determine what game they play by what fake internet rewards they get in a battlepass?

I’m old enough to remember that the point of playing games is to have fun. And this is easily the most fun Halo has been since Halo 3.

Yeah, the battlepass and progression system is bad. I don’t think I’ll ever so much as look at it. I feel bad for people who do care about customization in Halo, even though I’m not one of them.

But pretending this game will be DOA because it has a crappy battlepass/progression seems melodramatic. There’s a really special Halo game here for the first time in 14 years. It’s going to have a solid life ahead of it.

100% agree. It’s frustrating having a good game and not being rewarded in any way simply bc I didn’t play a certain way & complete challenges.

No offense to the people who had years working on the multiplayer, but this progression system is an embarrassment. Three reasons:

  1. You only gain XP by completing required number of matches, etc. MCC has a FAR superior progression system.

  2. The XP you earn is too small, meaning it’ll take years people dont have, even if the Battle Pass never expires. The amount of XP needs to be increased slightly to speed up the level grind and unlock cosmetics a little easier.

  3. The in game currency - Credits - should be earned through completing matches instead of just buying credits via credit card (for those who want to unlock the Battle Pass immediately with your own money). Here are a few suggestions to earn credits in matches:

  • Bot matches you complete, you are rewarded 5 credits per bot match.

  • Quick play or BTB matches is worth 10 or 20 credits per match.

  • Ranked matches is worth 50 credits per match. Once complete 10 matches, you’re rewarded with bonus credits, depending on which ranking medal you might end up with. 50 for bronze, 100-500 for silver, and 1000 for gold. The ranking matches then resets so players can get a better ranking medal and it’s bonus credits.

Since each Battle Pass is 1000 credits, players can earn and save up as much credits before unlocking the Battle Pass, so they have less time grinding XP if you unlock the pass first.

Hope this helps you before or after the launch on Dec 8.

Downright insulting. This was THE game I was most excited about ever and I might just give up. Both game devs and executives have lost their way. This might be the final straw for me as a gamer… There is so much shit I can be forced to swallow before I just stop gaming altogheter.

Gaming is dying. Mobile games with minimum effort disguised as casinos are the future of gaming. We’re witnessing the end of fun, meaningful games.

Preach. All I wan’t is to experience everything the game has to offer, and customization is unfortunately part of that. At least they didn’t paywall prosthesis.

It’s not about it being slow, it’s about it being tied entirely to challenges. Just playing a mode you like? Just playing a weapon you like? Just playing for fun? Well then you don’t get anything. This isn’t a game this is a job. Do the tasks we give you!

It’s fine that it takes a while to level up, but the challenges force you to play modes you may not like, using weapons you may not like, doing stuff that the mode isn’t even about. Plenty of people in Capture the Flag don’t even care about the flag because that’s not their challenge, they get something for running around shooting enemies, not for playing the mode they’re playing. That’s not a good design. You never want a team based game to be more rewarding when you ignore your team and do random crap, than actually helping and benefiting your team. And the current system is basically all about making people not play well

Wasn’t there a quote in Fall of Reach that went, “You don’t win at the expense of your team. Individual success is still failure”?

Exactly. Worse than the fact that the challenges are the only way to get experience, imo, is the fact that they aslo must be completed - every single week - before you can even attempt the challenge to unlock the weekly equipment.

Leveling at least you do get points for playing (and then eventually only winning), even though it isn’t every match - at least that part is somewhat close.

But the weekly-challenge-locked-weekly-challenged-locked-unlockable is what’s really FORCING people to play like that. I mean, my last two weeklies are worth 600 total, which is the equivalent of like six games in a day - except one of them requires getting 25 Banshee mortar kills and, in the last two days of playing, I have gotten the Banshee exactly one time. And as that is the main challenge I need to work on, getting in a match with a Banshee and getting the Banshee is 100% my focus.

Facts they should give us exp for winning macthes and gaining medals. The old halo 3 level up progress was the best.i remember playing my a**
Off trying to hit level 50

I agree, Im not sure why they didnt use a blend of H3 and Reach progression. An evolution of Reach Commendations would have been fantastic.

I don’t even need to repeat anything. I’ve already gone on tangent after tangent about this.

The progression system is bad enough for the associated press to be talking about it, and I held disdain for it the moment I started having to play 4 games for a meager 150XP and only having weekly challenges that I couldn’t be bothered to complete.

This system is more anti-consumer than the FOMO it prevents.

At least everyone in the halo community, well almost everyone, can come to a agreement that the progression system of Infinite is total trash. And that 343 have done better before. Whiles i’m glad about that, I think we’re blaming the wrong people… we all jump on the devs AKA 343I. But the ones we should really be complaining to and about is Microsoft. They’re the ones who make the deadlines and expectations for the game, and let’s be real, they probably forced 343 to include as much microtransactions and a BP without care for the game. Just following and forcing the ‘gaming trend’. That’s just how current day big boy companies are, such as Nintendo, Sony, Sega, Microsoft, EA, Activision etc etc… At this point in gaming it’s no longer ‘a library of amazing games from amazing companies’ it’s now just… ‘pick your poison, the lesser of many evils’ ones that ain’t going away any time soon because people keep buying, keep telling the higher ups ‘yes, this IS working. this IS filling your pockets’… greed is quite the deadly sin, isn’t it?

Just posting in agreement with the OP. The progression system is hot garbage and everything being tied to “challenges” instead of your gameplay with challenges being a bonus feels TERRIBLE. Even more so when you don’t complete a challenge and get zilch for completing a match even if you win or do really good.

What happened to this game having a progression system “equivalent to Halo:MCC”? It’s not even close to being as good.

I don’t really care about the skins or whatever myself but the current generation of gamers are all about cosmetics and unlocks and the current system is downright abusive when it comes to respecting a players time and effort. I get that you guys need to make money selling cosmetics but this is ridiculous and is going to turn lots of progression driven players away from the game.

Yea the progression system isn’t that great. I think heat of the moment is broken or needs more description if its a bounce shot with the heatwave or get a kill with a heat wave in ranked. That or if you have to get all the weekly challenges before that even though you only have one or two lower xp weekly challenges (which is bad). They need more ques that they are locked which is also bad. Because that makes me want to grab a power weapon and wait for a pelican to drop off a ghost and try to destroy it.
I say this since last night I got kills with a heatwave in multiple games and didn’t get the challenge.

Its upsetting to not see performance xp or even achievement unlock giving you xp. I figured 343 would have stuck with MCC’s xp performance settings but maybe a lessor amount of xp given to try to incentivize that double xp system. But kind of threw out like customizable emblems.

Its a bummer since 343 dev team knocked out the park with the models, gameplay, and mostly audio. Though music ques of a match are kind of annoying and distracts from the Parris class or AA gun firing. This progression system just promotes players to ignore objectives and try and do challenges. Which I’ve had two games one ctf and stockpile where most of my team stopped doing the objectives.

This is a serious slap in the face to all of the fans of this franchise since it’s inception. It shouldn’t have surprised me as it did. So upsetting and ridiculous. I agree with who ever said that the credits should be unlocked through the game instead of having to pay for it. We should also be given XP for playing without having to do challenges. I don’t care if this is a “Beta.” What possessed this studio to think this was a good idea? I would love to know. I get that the only thing that is cared about here is money but enough is enough though.
