Per the latest Waypoint blog article, it’s official that social and ranked are shared (as many of us have long suspected).
What I really want to be able to do is just get stoned and crush Fiesta, and play to have a good time, rather than always trying to improve.
But because social MMR has a meaningful impact on my ranked CSR, I can’t do that.
If I just kick back, play to destress without focusing on strategy etc. very much, then I go back to ranked, I can play one game and lose a ton of CSR because not playing my best in social was secretly tearing down my score.
I literally have a separate account that I have to use when I want to play social (which is kind of annoying because I don’t have all the same gear, AIs unlocked, etc.)
The only bit I read was where they confirmed using data to build an MMR when you start ranked; “In some instances we will leverage your performance in social to build a baseline/starting point when starting your ranked journey. We use data from all over the game, both at a playlist level and game mode level, to approximate your skill rating in other playlists if you’re playing them for the first time”.
So that is only when you play ranked for the first time. Like the Reddit post where the player started a new account, played boots to get a huge MMR, and then went into ranked.
Screwing around in social is not going to upset your ranked playlist.
And specifically they said in the match making section; “TrueMatch will always use the skill in the playlist that you are matching in”, implying different skill (MMR) for each playlist.
I’ll need to read it again later. It’s early in the morning here… and I’m camping… so I’ll need a strong coffee once everyone is awake.
I admire you that kicking back and playing Fiesta is a relaxing activity for you. MMR and the ranking of Halo just always continues to change and that’s the frustrating part. Change doesn’t always bring a positive experience to people when it comes to video games.
Yes! My biggest issue with my experience with this game! I feel penalized for playing well and in turn I lose more social games than I win! This makes me only play when I really feel “on”! It’s such an oversight it’s pretty the most disheartening aspect about playing this game to me.
It also seems like your boy games effect this, every time I play against bots then move into regular social games It’s so sweaty and competitive! I will often lose 5 or 6 games in a row!
I rarely play ranked as I don’t have people to play with of equal skill and I just find competitive can often make me feel like crap but when I was playing ranked I was finding it easier than unranked and I finished in Diamond 5.
Like I don’t want highly competive social playlists, it’s just unpleasant. And the teams are almost always mismatched, at least if social was truly social without a rank underneath the average Halo player wouldn’t have to be sweaty every single game.
kick back and relax? don’t forget, if you are winning a lot or you have a high K/D ratio. it mean an other one is losing and get and bad K/D. everyone wants to win all the time. the trade off is to match players with the same skill so the pro can appreciate the game as well as the noob. for a community and 343, it’s a win-win.
and i highly doubt relaxing on social will tank your performance on ranked. what i heard is if you play well in social, when you will play your first 10 match you will be match with better player.
no way a platinum getting flatten on social will play against bronze on ranked.
The game matches you against other players and you decide how competitive you’re feeling at that moment. Casual play is not playlist dependant, it’s a state of mind.
That’s the way I read it to, but considering that the idea of “social matches affect your ranked MMR” has garnered a lot of criticism they should be crystal clear about it if there are multiple MMRs. Since they were not very clear about this, I’m not going to make the same assumptions that you have, and still be skeptical.
