So, we finally have Crossplay! Wow, what a cool achievement to be able to see and reach for Halo. It’s happening! But… how good is it? And how good will it be fully implemented? Well, I want to give my answer to that question. Take note that this is just my personal opinion and just how I feel on the topic overall in this current flight. So where to begin? Well let me tell you I play on Xbox with a controller. That’s my setup and prefered devices (along with having all servers selected but I don’t think that applies here). Now when it comes to finding games, the absolute best method is to disable both Input and Platform based matchmaking. Finding games is instant and you get into matches quick which I know is a priority for the devs. The first problem arises when you try to mix it up or just flat out disable Input/Platform. Having both disabled makes the matchmaking experience feel like it did all the way back in 2014. Waiting. Waiting. Waiting. Now personally, I would prefer to play against other controller players and player on Xbox only, since that’s what I’m used to and I’ll get back to this in a moment. However if I wanted that experience, I’m going to have to wait for so long that I could have probably completed 2-3 matches if I chose to just search with every option selected under the sun. I do wonder if this problem won’t be so bad once it comes to the main game and it gets mitigated with a larger player base to pull from. The flight population could be the reason for this issue, but we won’t know till the update comes.
The next problem correlates to what I mentioned earlier. If I have to search with Input/Platform disabled and match against PC players on MKB (or Xbox players using MKB), then I don’t think the gameplay experience or the match experience will feel good at all. To me I can feel at a massive disadvantage against anyone using MKB. I don’t know before the game if I am playing against that because the game doesn’t tell me which is another problem I have. It will occasionally show a controller next to someone’s name but what about everyone else? I don’t understand this. Anyways, the PC players make their presence known in games and it feels awful to play against due to the discrepancies in a controller vs MKB. Yes, I know I get a aim assist boost, but does that really help me against a 120 FOV, 144hz, ultra sensitive mouse movements and super responsive keyboard? Or someone with that same setup but now playing on a controller so they also get that aim assist boost (throw in an Xbox player using MKB and the console not recognizing it so it thinks it’s a controller)? To me, it does not. I’m not the best player in the world, but I if I’m going get to my stuff stomped in, then at least I’d like the match to be fair.
Look, I like the idea of Crossplay, it helps people connect and allows us to play an amazing game series like Halo with all kinds of gamers. But I see problems that I’m not sure most people are talking about and issues that I can see cropping up in the long term. I see more complaints at these things in the future and it just worries me that a cool feature like this will possibly come with problems and frustrations.
So i want to start of with I understand your frustration. As a PC player playing against a bunch of controller people were there entire burst of a BR will land and mine only gets 1 to 2 out of 3. I don’t like to play against controller users on PC. This is only a problem with Halo as no other games have the amount of am assist with controllers as halo does. You may disagree with this but the most important thing is that the reason you cant find a mach agents controller or just Xbox controller users is because there is not as many people on the Xbox flight so there are less people doing that.
Yeah I am aware of the not many people on Xbox flight so I do agree with you. Countless times I have matched against the same people, hours or even days later. I’ve always known the reason but figuring every eligible person was invited it could’ve gone either way. However I’m mainly focused on when the update actually comes, not a small flight test. I agree with your point though.
Having played my share of both the Xbox and PC versions of MCC, I can say for sure that there seems to be a higher skill celling on PC. Either that, or the playerbase on PC is just more skilled on average so that might also be factoring into it. I’ve definitely noticed a difference in the level of play between platforms. Also I can’t say for sure about Xbox flights, but previous PC flights have been sweatfests for some reason.
I do think it’s kind of funny that as much as the PC side loves to complain about controller aimbot, here we have a console player getting the short end of the stick against mouse and keyboard.

Yeah I totally agree with your points. I would definitely say there is a high skill ceiling on PC for obvious reasons, but hey there is one on controller too. We wouldn’t have the Pros be as good as they are on it nearly 20 years later, across 6 games that have been played competitively. But there is definitely a time and place to unleash the sweatfest for sure. The PC community as I’ve known it as always been or just comes off as hyper-competitive, which is not necessarily a bad thing, but can go overboard.
Xbox flights have a mixed bag. Some games are casual, some are complete stomps, then others just make you work for every last inch. It is indeed funny that the PC loves to rage about a disadvantage, but are they really at one with their setups? I do feel the short end of the stick against MKB more often than not, you’re completely correct.
What I think some folks are overlooking is how not everyone on PC actually uses Mouse & Keyboard and how there’s a good amount of Players playing on PC with Controller against the Xbox Players & PC Players who use Mouse & Keyboard during the Crossplay of this Flight.
There’s plenty of Players who play on PC with a Controller Setup instead of MKB and even amongst Other Players on PC there is still much debate on who has an Advantage or not on either side but more often than not it seems like a lot of the Xbox Players are automatically assuming that if someone is on PC that means they’re using MKB.
I get what you are saying, but once it gets released for all game I sure it will be different. And, just enable input based matchmaking lol. Problem solved.

That’s what the option is there for, yes indeed. However I have to the raise the question of what will the matchmaking times be? How long will the wait to find a game take? We won’t know until we get there, but I feel like it is a possible concern and something to be mindful of.
Any crossplay game will struggle with the m&k vs controller balance. I’m just happy more Halo fans can play together. For as much as I enjoy this franchise, Halo’s peak is behind us. Hopefully this new generation can turn this around.
OP: “Controller users are at a massive disadvantage against M&KB users”
Literally first reply: “M&KB feels off with not landing shots while controller has tons of aim assist”
If someone were ever to conduct a massive poll on all player across platforms on what they feel to be at a disadvantage towards, I wonder if it’ll end up being 50-50
Meaning in the end, it’s actually balanced just fine and players are just, well, people, doing what humans with their distorted perceptions, biases, gut feelings, do.

I do get your point. I am curious and am following this discussion.
