So Marines, why does everyone want the Achilles Armour & Helmet?
It seems every Spartan Company bio I look at says “Must grind for Achilles Armour and Helmet.”
And alot of commenters say their grinding for it too.
Maybe I’m seeing things but is this some kind of secret cult signaling or something?
It’s cool Armour and all but I just don’t understand why most people want it.
Players like having things to work towards. For some, Achilles is a status symbol. For others, a cool-looking piece of customization. And for others still, it’s merely something to check off towards unlocking 100% of items.
Reasons vary. I’d hardly call it an obsession within the community.
I honestly never cared about having Achilles. I mean, I guess it looks kind of cool, but it didn’t feel right on my Spartan. Ever since Halo 3, my Spartan has always worn Recon and I think Recon became a part of my Spartan’s “identity” if that makes any sense. Since I would never wear Achilles, it seemed pointless for me to get it. Also, everyone seems to be wearing Achilles nowadays so, at least to me, it isn’t that impressive to have it anymore either.

I guess thats why I say “Possibe Obsession” in the title.
I don’t see it as a symbol of being a badass, but as “that achillies guy who farmed”. And look down upon because of it. It’s almost become a stereotype. Although farming rarely happens anymore (because almost everyone has it), people don’t forget about it.
When my company finally gets the helmet, I’ll wear the helmet like any other. I’ll attempt to not to be put off by the stigma surrounding it.

Just be bad at Halo like me and people forget you even have Achilles when they play against you lol

Some people want to get everything they can in the game.
The armor has the alure of being hard to get.

At least it’s not like the helmet. My current Spartan Company is very close however; we just need to get those stubborn Spartan Charges out of the way.
The fact that it’s the only armor set you actually have to work for in the game is probably the main reason for its popularity.

That should be fun, i love killing people with spartan charge
I’ve had it for quite a while and have yet to ‘put it on’ colour me obsessed.

I’ll probably take advantage of Shotty Snipers while it’s still around.

No. It’s just that it’s the only set in the game you can actually earn.
It’s one of the few things in Halo 5 where you can actually put in time for a specific reward. I enjoyed commendations but really didn’t like the randomness of the req system. I wish all items were tied to specific actions as rewards. The armor itself is kind of ugly though and does not say anything about your skill. It’s just something to grind for.
i like the helmet but i don’t really care for the armor but players that earned these had to go through alot to get them so were proud to have them.

Wow, I didn’t know you could earn any Armour in H5.
But it is a signaling of a kind though.
Like everyone else says it’s the fact that you have to grind for it. I personally like the armor itself because it’s a Spartan, Spartan armor. There was concept art of something like this for halo 3. It might have been a Viking though.
