The population isn't dropping for any other reason than this game isn't fun because of a major lack of content and no real progression

Any other thoughts are merely drops in the bucket to what’s really happening here. It’s not JUST SBMM, it’s not just weapon balancing or map layouts. It’s literally the fact that we feel absolutely zero sense of accomplishment in terms of stat tracking (No, I don’t give two yoinks about logging into Halo tracker) I’m talking about a mechanic/feature IN THE GAME when I turn infinite on. I’m talking about the massive lack of actual things to do (Forge, co-op, firefight, etc…) I don’t feel welcomed when the title launches it’s ugly, grainy looking mess of a menu and I certainly lose interest in playing GOD FORBID Alpha site for the sixth time in a row. Plain and simply there’s nothing to do in this title except shoot glowing guys over and over. Creativity has been ripped away, and this game needed to launch with it’s core mechanics intact to hold an audience.

It doesn’t matter if forge comes out in May and something else comes out nine months from now. This game needed to wow people NOW because this generation of both average gamers AND veteran Halo players are incredibly fickle! Younger gamers consume a title, judge it, and move on to the next thing while Halo fans expect more polished and numerous content upfront. Especially after the collosal failure that has been H4,5 and MCC (For the first few years). It’s okay if you like those, but the reality is Halo 5 did not hold high player counts and the drop off that Halo 4 had was infamously embarrassing. And we don’t even need to get into MCC’s launch.

Your first impression, ESPECIALLY now a days is everything!! EVERYTHING! And you have to show people what you have to offer. All the cards under your sleeve need to be laid out on the table.

Think about it: If some young kid or newer player jumps on your FTP Halo game and all they see is Matchmaking and another monetization scheme, they’re only going to think exactly what they think about any other game that has the same model, but offers more in terms of game modes and customization options and let’s be frank (Because Halo fans don’t want to hear this) VASTER POPULARITY! They’re going to go and play those games because this simply has nothing to offer them. And really it has nothing to offer us ( Seasoned Halo fans).

Halo, like marriage, is an old man’s comfort. You really needed to make this game appear “-Yoink!-” if you really wanted to hold numbers. You needed to have a vast wealth of options and content off batt to really make heads turn. But this ain’t it. This is unfortunately, whether people want to admit it or not… Just another Halo game. It’s just another shell of itself and it’s just sad.

And as much as people are going to ride on the “Well it plays good” or the “Give them time” all that ever has to be done to Trump that is a simple finger extension from a hand pointing straight at the last decade of mishaps. Learn from history or repeat it, they like to say.

This wasn’t a “The fans will bare with us moment” this needed to be Scarface at the climax, two rifles under each arm, kicking the door down “SAY HELLO TO MY LITTLE FRIEND!” And that little friend should have been infinite. This was the last chance to really wow people. I’m not seeing that. I’m seeing an empty game and a lot of fan complaints and rightly so.

And frankly the promise of more to come doesn’t mean much to most of us. It just sounds like a desperate plea. And it sounds like more time nobody really feels they need to waste, because we’ve already been waiting for over ten years.

Yea, I’m just playing MP like it’s some cheap weekly game at the moment.
I’m a BTB player mainly, so the fact that BTB is just broken and there are only 3 maps to play on don’t really appeal to me.

I can only pray 343 gets their bulldog together and MCC it up. We definitely need that right now.

Also, just fire the entire marketing team. They have no idea what the heck they are doing. I mean come on, nail polish? How many gamers use nail polish? How many HALO players use nail polish? Unless they are big brain 42069ing this and thinking “OMG YOU CAN BUY NAIL POLISH FOR YOUR GF SO SHE LETS YOU PLAY MORE HALO, HERE’S A COATING”

And people made fun of me for the game turning into more of a feminine thing. Watch. It’s ganna become more cartoony as time goes on

I mean to be fair there were legitimately Microsoft licensed Halo 2 uhh… cough “Pleasure gloves” in 04, if you know what I mean. Lol

Tbh thats what Im doing in MCC MP and its actually fun there. I don’t even care about the extra stuff in MCC. It just has fun gameplay and lots of maps and weapons

I see alot more use for those gloves than nail polish.

@Rampage116

I salute you.

Personal, I can’t even imagine how 343 came to the conclusion releasing a game so barebone in just about every aspect of it “acceptable”.

This is not even a joke on how much is missing from this game. Then add all the issues it has, forced cross-play, all the false promises they made, the game being built around a paywall, etc…

Infinite as far as it being a game is broken.

BTB being broken is an issue. By far the funnest mode and it being out is not good. I also think should have more than three maps. Pretty sure there are people who just play BTB and don’t touch arena.

Also, I do wish 343 wouldn’t keep putting industrial warehouse maps into the game. They’re just boring.

But yes, it is a shame they didn’t have Forge and Custom browser for launch. I assumed they’d have taken that lesson from Halo 5 since those tools were great once they came out. Build it and they will come.

PVE Horde is always a good addition as it’s more casual and you can get more varied combat encounters.

Plus if we are wishlisting, it could have used a Battle Royale. There is something to be said for having a huge map where you can get lost and have that variety of combat encounters and madness.

I’ve played a lot of Arena and it just gets too samey after a while.

But given the issues with getting the game too launch I just don’t think these were options on the table.

These things will probably come out; just not anytime soon.

Yup.

I do some challenges here and there(never bother to go for the ‘ultimate’ prize tbough as it always sucks). And then I stop playing and return to Halo 3 because there’s a HUGE lack of content and no progression. They need to really kick things into high gear and start churning out very regular updates ASAP because if some marketing genius is thinking “Let’s stagger content, that way it’ll exaggerate how much is being added and hold people’s attention.” - they’re wrong. Speed up guys.

Everybody dropped the ball with Infinite. There are so many issues: the state of modern gaming is depressing.

Respectfully disagree.

I agree. The arrival of the forge is also absolutely necessary, and with it new maps to be included in matchmaking. So would also come the remakes of the classic maps.

I’d also like the social section to have a mode switch like TMCC, and a Precision Slayer mode with BR start and radar on.

While the population is dropping by a good amount, it isn’t dropping by as huge an amount as some people make it out to be. All games lose players post launch, even more so for f2p games since they invested nothing in it. Example, Destiny lost 170k players from it’s launch in September after just 2 months of being on Steam. Halo Infinite has lost 200k. Destiny however is nowhere near the size on xbox that Halo is, Infinite is the 4th most played game on any microsoft platform. While a good chunk of players have left due to the poor state of the game (lack of game modes and customization, a fountain of glitches and bugs, bad servers, ect, ect) it is not as big as people make it out to be.

This is how bad it got imo

Last night i had the ultimate challenge for the visor, and me and a friend was grinding it. He was trying to win matches, but i just idled. Few peeps dm me poking @ the afking, but @ this point, you could really just gather a squad of 4 and have everyone run to center to end the game asap. Why try when everyone gets the same amount of xp

The progression HAS to change. They can keep playing with the battlepass challenges all they want, it’s NOT working, nor WILL it. Get rid of them or make them secondary. It’s complete garbage and it was a bad idea to begin with. Performance based XP maybe?? Sounds crazy right!??

They could easily get the ball rolling by putting some actual nice armor pieces from that slimy ,greedy store in the pass until some changes are made but nope. They see this game as an ATM. And the amounts of money that people are putting into that store is sad.

I’d still be willing to give it another go In a few months maybe but by then it will probably already have turned into a more expensive Fortnite.

Prove me wrong please!

While the game isn’t completely dead, people leaving because of the things you explain is not good. Idk why you’re sitting here trying to debate whether the game is actually dead or not, it’s not quite there yet, but with the the lack of updates on any of problems you mention and lack of content, it’ll be there shortly. Nobody but the niche Halo community will be playing the game in about a months notice. Even then Halo will still almost always hold a few thousands players. Still not ideal for a franchise that sells a LARGE amount of copies just off the title name alone. They have the sales #s they want every title off of nothing they’ve earned, and then quickly lose the people that would need to be actually indulged into a good community and game to stay around. It’s utter failure every title. The game is dying at an alarming rate, even if it’s not 'quite dead yet.

I would say this is the spot on the logical reason for the slow trickle of population decline (couple hundred to a thousand a week), but the two major drop offs can be attributed to:

  1. Expected initial peak population decline (as is the case with 90% of titles that release)

  2. The BTB issues that resulted in a 50% drop off in the (at the time) current population.

I think that people already left Halo Infinite vor various reasons like:

  • lack of different gamemode like warzone, firefight, infection and other
  • only a few maps, once you played each arena map 100 time each, its boring
  • no progression system
  • challenges that force you to play a gamemode that you dont like or to win a match in a specific objective gamemode, but you cant chose the gamemode
  • BTB not working
  • Desync, lag, issues with hit detection and melee
  • Unbalanced weapons
  • Cheaters in ranked
  • Ranked team that use the exploit, a team with 1 Diamond and 2-3 smurf account on their placement matches, but they play as they were high platin or diamond
  • lack of communication / information

Did i forget something?

You forgot the horrible optimization on PC (which they promised was going to run well) which makes M/K Halo even worse than it already is on full-screen borderless. Idk if it is the lack of fullscreen or something else, but the game does not feel silky smooth on M/K all the time. Bad input delay and stutters. It’s borderline unplayable on M/K unless you have an INSANE rig.
