Is completely invalid for one simple reason. There are far more IPs available for online play now then there were back in halo 3’s time. More games to play across all genres simply means that the population is spread much thinner across those games. It’s simple math. Halo 3 didn’t have nearly as much competition for populace attendance as halo 4 does now.
There was also less people on Xbox Live back then compared to now. And if Halo 4 had worked the way it was intended to, over 70% of it’s total population wouldn’t have left. It would have kept people interested in the game and thus increase the games life-span. Halo works on longevity, and the case with Halo 4 is that it isn’t working.
You are right to a certain extent, but this game is 5 months in and it was BEHIND Modern Warfare 3 in last week’s XBL activity. There is a problem.
Oh, crap. I stand corrected then. Now I feel embarrassed to be playing this game.

Halo 3 was an xbox exclusive.
The xbox doesn’t have very many popular IP’s right now, nor in 2007.
And even if it did, your logic is still flawed because CoD, BF3, and other games still have a very good population despite there being “more competition”, while Halo 4’s is dwindling.
Yeah, OP! People also have work, school, and university they have to attend. We all know those were spontaneously invented after Halo Reach came out!
People do tend to forget or ignore that MW3, Black Ops, Battlefield, Bioshock Infinite, Dead Space 3, etc do steal away a lot of the target audience that halo 3 had to itself

Okay flame boy, I already admitted the fault of my statement so you may feel free to head back into reach (lol, reach) and continue to be t bagged.
Even if this is true OP,it is still Microsofts job to provide a stellar FPS that brings in potential Xbox buyers, and keeps them on the platform. ( regardless of competition) Needless to say, they haven’t accomplished the task.

Relax, it’s just a wiity one-liner aimed at people who use false excuses for population (it was based on Halo Reach and Halo 4 population arguments, in no way did my statement “glorify” Reach.)
The post was also made while you posted your revelation, so I didn’t see it until after I had hit the submit button.

Hey, I try to come on these forums every once in a while to try and post constructive criticism in hopes that maybe they can save the online population. And I too still play this game in hopes that the experience eventually improves. (It took H2 a few months before it was patched to be a better multiplayer experience.) I just hope the developer understands that a large portion of the core fan base, that has been around for years, isn’t playing the game anymore.

I forgive bro. Lol. Pretty witty, in retrospect.
People need to stop using this as an excuse. I’m sure the fact that there are other games to play nowadays besides Halo is a factor but it sure as hell isn’t the only reason the population is so low.

Are you kidding me? In Halo 3’s lifetime (3 years) Halo 3 competed with the Fallout games, Battlefield, gears of war, CoD and every one of its popular games (CoD 4,WaW, MW2, and Black ops 1) and it still had a great population even when Reach and all those other games came out.

You obviously need to read the whole thread. I admitted I was wrong already.
Not only are there vastly more games to play, there has been an unbelievably large expansion of platforms.
So many, it would take hours to list the combination of both.
Moral of the story, play what you enjoy, leave the things you dont, to those that do.
OP - you make want to edit your original post as people clearly don’t read down threads LOL.
People here are also forgetting that CoD 4 received more players than Halo 3 during their lifetimes. It was the first time a non Halo-title topped the charts on the Xbox.
From there it was all down hill. Does anyone care to know the big secret why? I’ll tell you: Halo is old.
It’s no longer combat evolved. It will never evolve. People like to moan about BR spread, DMR bloom and loadouts. However, the real fact of the matter is that Halo is old. If people want a big population, move on to something else (that, or get on WoW).

This is one of those rare times where a moderator can lock my thread and I’ll thank him for it.
Having 600,000 people again everyday would be sweet.
But is very unlikely to happen.
I have been playing Halo 3 in the last week. And can still get a game pretty qucik and there is only 5,000 people online.
I have been unable to get a game of BTB, as this playlist tends to have less than 100 people.
Unfortunately, it doesn’t matter if everyone stopped playing, going on sales, the game was a Hugh success, when long term life of the game it is not.
