Everything else about the Winter Update has been good but the playlist update is just terrible. Stripping away so much variety and staple Halo modes. What really needs to happen is this:
Every Social playlist will allow you to choose the modes to include when searching. It would essentially act like the MCC match composer except in playlist format.
Social:
Arena (4v4)
Rumble Pit (8 Player FFA)
Doubles (2v2)
Tactical Slayer (4v4)
Big Team Battle (12v12)
Arena - Slayer, BR Slayer, Attrition, Capture the Flag, Strongholds, Oddball, King of the Hill, Land Grab, Kong Slayer, Team Snipers (S7s Only), Fiesta, Ninja Slayer, Rockets and Repulsors, Purple Reign, Covert One Flag, etc.
Rumble Pit - FFA Slayer, HCS Slayer (HCS Tournament Settings), Ninja Slayer, Snipers (S7s Only), Vampire Oddball, Fiesta, Escalation Slayer (Gun Game), One in the Chamber (Tactical Slayer spawn/respawn with one bullet. Kills generate a bullet.), Crazy King, Juggernaut, Kong Slayer, Purple Reign, etc.
Doubles - Slayer, Oddball, Capture the Flag, King of the Hill, Dodgeball, Team Snipers (S7s Only), Fiesta, Ninja Slayer, Rockets and repulsors, etc.
Tactical Slayer - BR, Sidekick, Mangler, Stalker, Commando, etc.
Big Team Battle - Slayer, BR Slayer, Stockpile, Total Control, Capture the Flag, Team Snipers (S7s Only), Kong Slayer, Ninja Slayer, Purple Reign, Tactical Slayer, Skockets, Last Spartan Standing, etc.
With this system there would rarely be a need to add a new playlist (only for a different team size, multi team, etc.) and there would be no need to take any modes away. This means it would be easier for 343 to add modes into matchmaking more frequently, without having to create an entire new playlist every time.
Furthermore it would help with playlist population seeing as people would be spread out across a smaller amount of playlists AND they would be able to search for multiple different modes at a time (this means different modes would get played more as people arent restricted to a playlist JUST for that one mode).
