The playlist system have always been a problem in Halo games because they always gather gamemodes well too different.
First, Salyer and Objectives are two mode too much different to be in a same playlist.
Then in this season 2, some playlist like “Rumble Pit” or “Quick Play” have too many gamemodes. It increases the chances to have a mode that we don’t like and it decreases the chances of bumping into those we like
I don’t find normal to select a playlist and don’t know what game we will play. Too many time I select a playlist and hope to don’t fall on some particular game. A lot of people don’t have the time to play many games and wait to find one they would finnaly enjoy. As long as there is a playlist system, there will be quit raging
Either the playlists must be separated into three different categories : slayer, objectives and rare mode
Or a match composer similar to MCC must arrive
But something must be done
Or maybe just “preference option” to each playlist.
For example, you select “preference option” for BTP and you chose to play only on Flag and stockpile, you would wait twice as long but at the end you have a game you like.
6 months later: the playlists change every week by mixing everything and anything. The players no longer have any landmarks and are constantly disapointed and surprised. And things are not going better
I’ve been talking about this for weeks.
Team Slayer
Team Objective
Team Snipers
SWAT
BTB
Rumble Pit/FFA
MLG/Hardcore/HCS
Ranked and Social. This is the core of the Halo matchmaking experience. None of these playlists should be rotational.
I don’t think 343’s current (or immediate former, if they’ve left) playlist manager really understood how to help players play what they want.
They said no to implementing MCC’s matchmaking composer during pre-launch development. That decision alone makes me question whether they should still be making playlist decisions.
And last year 343 also stated that Infinite didn’t launch with (Halo’s most popular playlist of its entire franchise history) Team Slayer because they were worried other playlists would suffer.
So they specifically chose not to make the most popular playlist, because they thought it would continue to be popular… How anyone didn’t push back on that logic is crazy to me.
i don’t care for the game that is slayer. it’s not fun to me. i like objective based gameplay because it introduces more gameable behavior. But you know what i really hate? When a bunch of people who don’t want to play the game mode i’m playing are playing the game mode i’m playing.
This is fair, but I think a more generous representation of what OP means is, the current playlist system isn’t working out. Rotating core game modes in and out of playability as though it’s the overwatch 1 arcade mode doesn’t seem to make people happy.
EDIT- case in point, did you know i have a rank now? Because the only FFA game available was ranked. And it’s only battlerifles, no radar, no fun modes. just precision based ffa slayer without radar.
my mouth kinda dried up around game 6, but i slogged through the placement matches.
The issue is that there are simply too few slots (6?) for having a lot of specialized playlists, so the modes are either in rotation (RIP LSS), or have to pack multiple modes within a single playlist. Increasing the number of playlists to 15-20 would allow to pick the specific game mode experience you’re currently feel like playing.
I’m happy to see I’m not the only one this playlist system bother. I think the two biggest problem are : 1 The playlists change too much 2 The playlists gathered too many different games, and at each playlist, personnaly, there is at least one game I dislike and make me quit
I think the solutions are simples : 1 Set the usual playlists as permanent (quick game, fiesta, BTP …)
Put only the original playlists as rotative
Mark next to the playlist when it will be deleted and by what it will be replaced 2 Differentiate playlists as Assassin, Objectives and Fiesta, don’t gathered this modes in a playlist
I hope one day this will seems logic to the developpers to do that and until that’s happen, it’s really frustrating !
I do wish it worked similar to how Overwatch Arcade does. Being able to pick playing land grab would be awesome, or just playing CTF and TC modes in BTB. There are some modes I absolutely hate, but I feel bad leaving as there isn’t a guarantee the role will be filled.
I definitely prefer MCC’s method of playlist and gamemode organizing over Infinite’s. There’s more precision in the selection process, less steps involved in searching for specific game modes (which eliminates the RNG in finding a specific game mode for challenges), visually it’s less clunky and more intuitive. I prefer that horizontal organization over the vertical layout they currently have in Infinite.
