Can you believe that you still can’t speak to your team in pregame lobby? Kinda nuts.
The biggest problem this causes is that it forces people to use party chat. That’s why 90% of players are in party chat, even without a full party. So when you go into match making you often can’t communicate with your team because they’re all in damn party chat!! We’re all incredibly frustrated with this and 343 needs to address it.
Possible solutions:
Fix in game chat so you can talk to your fire team in between games and in pregame lobby. - Force players out of party chat once in game if they don’t have a full team in party chat. - Match making search option that filters based on mic activity or mic preferences.Halo relies on communication more than most games, so let’s try to encourage it.

Force players out of party chat? I get that teamwork is pretty essential in Halo…but most of us playing are not pros and at the end of the day it doesn’t really matter if we win or lose, even if winning is way more fun. I’d rather talk with my friends, regardless what game they are playing, than talk to random people just to win a few games.

This.
Top ten reasons I use part chat:
I can hear your TV bleeding through your mic. It’s like the echo I never wanted.
I don’t need to hear what you and your significant other are planning for dinner, unless I’m invited of course.
I may not particularly care for your choice of music.
While completely interesting from a psychological standpoint, your political stance does not really interest me.
Your chips/crisps sound tasty, but unless you are going to share, I’d prefer not to listen to you eat.
Your voice may be five octaves above high C, and I’m afraid it may shatter my eyeglasses.
We all get upset when we get killed, however this may be due to latency, and there is no need to unleash a verbal diatribe of epic proportions.
Racism is still a thing.
Sexism is still a thing.
I just met you, and this is crazy, but keep on breathing into the mic, and I’ll mute you, maybe. It’s nothing really new to Halo 5. Mic use by randoms has always been up to chance. It’s always best to go in with a team. It’s not always feasible, but it’s the only way to guarantee communication.
It would be nice to have game chat in the lobby…if everyone got along and had proper mic etiquette indeed. However I see a whole lot more vulgar and immature drivel being spewed out than the latter…
It does get annoying when you see 2/4 in your fireteam in party chat. Sometimes I wish they would flip over to gamechat for a sec just to see if there is going to be communication with your other two teammates.
Sometimes you get lucky though. Let your game play dictate the scenario. I was in a game the other night the other 3 players were in party chat. I ended up contributing positively with them and next thing you know after the match I get a game invite and party invite. Next thing you know its been two hours later and a whole lot of good games in team arena.

Ya I agree. Warzone does get a little hectic and party chat is not really a big deal in a large social game like that. I was mainly talking about Arena.
It’s really hard to do well without any information in Team Arena, especially the higher you climb in the ranks. There’s no reason in my opinion that you should be in party chat in a 4v4 game. If someone on your team is annoying, just mute them. There’s only three of them

Ya I get that. My proposal was geared towards competitive playlists, like Team Arena. There’s only 3 other players in that situation, and it’s not really hard to mute one or all of them if they are blaring their TV or talking to their SO.
For all of your reasons listed, you can simply mute people and report them if necessary. In a 12v12 or 8v8 I understand the need to party chat.

The commandments of mute all. Seriously something from this list is in every game where I am not in party chat. Its why I cannot stand the game chat, especially the tv through the mic, its just painful.

There is a lot of BS. But if you don’t try to communicate, you’ll never meet new people. Sounds cheesy but I met good friends on Xbox Live that I’ve kept in touch with for years and years.
This post was geared mainly towards a 4v4 setting, as it is easier to mute people who are offensive or whatever.

No. It is easier to just be in party chat. I dont want to talk to randoms. I meet new people to play with through my company. Im also not an uber tryhard. I honestly could not care less if i win a match or not. I solo queue most of the time in arena, when i play it which is rare, in a party by myself.

Why should the game and others have to cater to you? I agree with your first point but your second is so outlandish that I feel like I need to tell you to check your privilege. Your third point is impossible for 343 to come up with and fine tune a system that tracks how much a person speaks, some people don’t want to talk and it’s thier choice. How about you address this problem yourself and find people to play with so it’s a bit more social for you. Hopefully 343 makes it to where we can talk in pre game lobbies and in between. There’s already encouragement to talk and it victory that’s the best motivator to talk and yet people still don’t cause they don’t want to. Whenever I’m on by myself I talk in game chat to see if anyone wants to coordinate and about 95 percent of the time no one answers, I don’t blame them or get mad it’s thier choice. I still call out and now and then I see people although silent act upon my callouts. What I think we need is the party up option from h3 I did the same thing there with silent team mates and on the second match together I usually got a response even made friends that way.

How is asking for a good platform that encourages communication privileged? Let’s try to have a conversation without hostile tones for once, please.
My first point is the ideal situation. Yes they should fix the system so you can chat in the lobby with your fireteam. But considering it still hasn’t been fixed, I’m assuming there’s a reason and it’s not that simple.
My second point was merely a suggestion, as was clearly stated. This was meant to start a conversation and get the ball rolling on a possible solution. However, it would not be the first time a game kicked people out of party chat. Gears of War did it at one point to combat screen watching in the death cam and giving your teammates positioning info.
My third suggestion, wasn’t meant to be interpreted as a vast system built to track if you’re using your mic. Perhaps just something that can tell if you’re in party chat or not so that it can match you with other people who are also not in party chat. Or even simpler, just a search preference that you select if you are interested in matching people who also want to chat.
I agree that the party up system would be great to bring back as well.

Being unable to communicate in the menus via game chat is “really new” to Halo 5… It might not be a big deal to you, but it’s a big deal for many of us, particularly those who play custom games regularly. In fact, it’s one of the main problems that I detailed in my video about the difficulties of hosting custom lobbies.
Success in Halo is 50% communication and yet Halo 5 essentially forces everyone into parties so you can’t talk with your match made teammates. Halo 5 needs lobby fireteam chat more than anything else. That is what I have written on every single 343 survey since the game launched but they continue to ignore our requests. We’re not asking for a lot here! This is a basic feature that virtually every multiplayer shooter has supported in the past decade.
If you where to force me out of party chat I would probably just resort to useing Skype instead given I remarks have a good experiences when it comes to game chat.
I’m in party chat so I can talk to my friends who aren’t playing Halo. If I’m forced out of party chat, then I just won’t play Halo. And I’m sure a lot of people would follow suit. Halo’s already not very popular, so a few hundred people leaving would hurt it even more.
