The Perfect Ranking System

I was wondering what the people of the forums think of Halo 5’s ranking system. Do you people like how it is, if not how can it be changed for the better?

I think it should be a mix of Skill Ranks and Reach’s Military ranks

I found it to be easily manipulated in the beta.

How?

Yes do tell

As long as you can’t exploit the system like those account sellers in Halo 3 were doing.

Whatever but please 343I,don’t make a ranking system like Halo MCC

I had actually made a gif of it during the beta, but I’m having trouble tracking it down again. But basically when playing your 10 qualifier matches, if you quit a match, it didn’t count against you. With that knowledge I put it to the test on a new gamertag. I quit out every single match that wasn’t a landslide victory. And at the end of it once I completed my 10 perfect games and quit probably twice as many, I was instantly given a semi-pro rank.

hmmm. But much like people who bought 50s during H3, what would the point be? If youre not actually good enough for semi-pro rank, once you get there this way you will start getting demolished by real semi-pro ranks.

Because there may end up being achievements tied to rankings, etc. And because more often than not, people care about showing off their rank more than what it actually represents.

Morons. Never understood that. If youre not actually a 50 you will lose as soon as you get in a game with real 50s. You would look like a fool.

That being said, in the beta you couldn’t derank below semi-pro. Once you hit the ladder tier, you just moved up and down in brackets, you couldn’t go back down to onyx. So if the system from the beta remains unchanged, you will have a plethora of people who are semi-pro rank, and just the bottom brackets will be made up of the people who cheated their way there.

Did you only get locked into the semi-pro tier and up or all of them?

I think the competitive side of the arena mode should have a purely skill based ranking system with visible ranks, similar to Halo 3’s. (In my opinion, Halo 5’s ranking system was a bit too penalizing for losses, so much so that people would refuse to play without a full team of players they knew.) On the other hand, warzone and social slayer gametypes should have an experience based ranking system, such as what we saw in Halo Reach. In that system, you get points to level up whether you win or lose.

Naked Eli also made a great series about this topic, see it if you’re interested.

H3’s with teammate trueskill influences removed (deranking/boosting) fixed.

The matchmaking in H5 needs a lot of work for sure.

I preferred the H2 and H3 numerical, visible, ranked systems. Those 2 games easily had the best matchmaking imo. Even Titanfall on the X1 has a true skill matchmaking now. Works surprisingly well too.

I agree halo 2 and 3 matchmaking were awesome. I think 3 really nailed it.

I think Halo 3 had the best ranking system. It allowed you to play socially and rank up through experience by playing large amounts of matches, or by hopping into ranked playlists and earning skill ranks that would demote you if you lost. It was a nice tortoise vs hare system, with one option being the “slowly but surely” way and the other being a faster but riskier alternative. It would be nice to see something like that again at some point.

I want it to be like 3’s where it’s two ranking systems. Have the casual playlist be number based and the competitive rank based.

except make it based on K/D instead of W/L
