The overall state of matchmaking

Well, I’ve tried so many times to convey this in a productive light but 343i are allergic to good decision making so why bother? Why is the matchmaking system absolutely unable to balance teams in a manner that makes sense? I’m either searching with a friend and getting 25 points each out of the 50 with the opponents being literally brand new to playing MCC, or I’m having to solo carry 3 players without functioning hands (or from this thread https://forums.halowaypoint.com/t/getting-absolutely-destroyed-in-every-match-on-halo-3/510467/28) against a team of 4 people that know how to play.

I understand that 343i has a fetishisation about dismantling Halo, but if there is at least one person employed there that actually wants this game to maintain a population, then I suggest implementing the basic training playlist from OG Halo 3 or actually allowing players to search focused. I’m more than happy to wait 5 minutes to have a match where everyone in the lobby is decent.

As it’s a good idea, I know that this goes against the philosophy of the company so I don’t expect it to be implemented but I still suggest being bold and actually doing something good for the franchise for the first time in a decade. It’s a subject a little less trivial than someone with Halo posters in their bedroom talking about elite armour or whatever, but please try.

Starting to think my thread was a mistake

MCCs population is extremely healthy rn. Healthier than Infinite on steam at least. That’s quite the feat. Servers are a lot better too. And the matchmaking filter thing they added like 2 yrs ago is one of the best things ever to happen to the MCC
Yeah, things could be more fair. I think competitive playlists could use a tune up.
Pretty great though.

Not really saying much to compare the population of MCC to something that 343i made, of course not as many people on steam are going to be playing it. Seeing how you have an average win% and K/D after 72 days of playtime, you probably won’t notice the balancing issue at all. I’m talking about players that aren’t likely to trade every kill that need to tolerate a matchmaking system actively trying to alienate them and their teammates that have never touched the game before.

At more extreme ends of the spectrum, the matchmaking filter simply does not work and the option to search focused or a space to allow new players to learn how to play the game is required. The “Basic training” playlist was a thing from 15 years ago but as mentioned in my original post, I understand why they’re unable to implement it.
