The Osiris/Blue Team Split Explained(ish)

I say “ish” because this hasn’t been said outright by 343, but I feel it’s a more than reasonable conclusion to draw based on the events of Halo 4, official statements made about Halo 5’s story, and the general tone of its marketing campaign. A conclusion that was solidified for me after reading this article.

Specifically, it was this line in the article: “It is up to Fireteam Osiris, led by Spartan Locke (introduced in the live-action series “Halo: Nightfall”) to hunt down the Chief and solve the mystery.”

In other words, the actual genre of Halo 5’s story is Mystery. A mystery that the Master Chief and Blue Team are at the heart of. A mystery that wouldn’t exist if we spent half the game playing as them.

My conclusion from all this is as follows: Halo 5 is the direct build-up to a massive conflict in Halo 6, and that conflict will see the Chief return to his proper place as a primary gameplay character.

I’ve suspected ever since Halo 4 that 343 was playing the long game with Halo’s new story, taking their time to build up a stronger, more cohesive tale that will tie together much better during marathon playthroughs once all the games are released. And at least for me, this potential has me enormously excited for not only Halo 5, but for the rest of the Reclaimer Saga as well.

For awhile, I was extremely disappointed with how few Blue Team missions there are, and I still feel they could’ve had more. But I’m over it by now. Halo 5 is what it is, and I’ll see what that is Tuesday. I just hope 343 hasn’t slit their throats with the masses, because there’s a lot they’ve done that said masses are likely unaware of.

Of this I’m certain. Halo 5 will either be the best Halo game to date or the worst. I personally hope it’s the former.

I agree, too many people think that just because chief isn’t in every mission that he isn’t the main character still. This sort of mystery makes the story seem far more unique than previous stories and I am excited to see how it plays out.

All they had to do was pull the 5 from the title, remove 90% of the Master Chief’s image and involvement from the marketing and then we would of had the Truth without a Hunt.

Agreed. For me, the best contribution 343 has made to Halo is the fact that it’s story is no longer a Star Wars-ian Space Opera. Don’t get me wrong, I loved that about the original series. But when Halo 4 was first announced, my biggest hope was that they wouldn’t just tell the same kind of story with new characters.

But where’s the fun in that? :stuck_out_tongue:

It thought it was having actual character development and integrating the lore in a meaningful way.

This is exactly what I’ve been saying on articles that complained about this. It makes for a juicier story and not only that, your suppose to be the blind and not know what the hell is going on either.

I like multiplayer more than campaign and even if the campaign was utter garbage I would buy the game but I agree with OP. That’s what I’ve thought since people started talking about the mission split. It may be somewhat disappointing to not play primarily as chief but I also believe it will pay off in the rest of this saga of games.

Halo is Halo. with or without the chief.

I’m fine with it. After all, it kinda kills the whole mysterious “Hunt the Truth” vibe if you’re playing as the mysterious character (chief) for most of the game. 343 wants to tell most of the story as Locke because his viewpoint reflects that of the whole UNSC. We have absolutely no idea what he’s doing, and I like it.

Still a pretty swift kick in the junk for people who were excited for the first in-game appearance of Blue Team.

Yeah, no denying that, but as one of those people psyched as all hell for Blue Team’s first in-game appearance, I would still happily sideline them for one game in order to get a much more epic story in the next game.

I’ve been sick to my stomach for about a day from learning about this.

I have no problem with it. Given that the game is supposed to be huge and with plenty to explore in each level I think we’ll get our fair share of playing with Blue Team.

Same here. I don’t mind playing as another spartan. Just don’t make me an elite again.

And how do you know Halo 5 doesn’t have that, and isn’t just taking a different approach to it?

Yeah, I hope that it is building up for Chief in Halo 6. And hopefully Chief will still get a lot of face time in cinematics. At the end of the day, as long as Chief is a large part of the story, I will be happy. I like what the OP said about this being a mystery.

i want to see more locke, i love the idea of hunting the chief and the mystery created in the narrative from the hunt the truth series.

PSA: please listen to hunt the truth before playing halo 5, trust me!

Yeah, it definitely does a pretty great job of setting up the behind-the-scenes workings of the larger Halo universe. I’m not perfectly up-to-date on it, but I really hope we get to take down ONI in Halo 6. Or 7, because we all know it’s going to happen at some point.

i thought the story was great wouldve liked to play more as blue team though
