Now, I have only ever had one of my posts edited by a Mod, and I was fine with them doing that. What bugged me was that I couldn’t see why they edited it. They said I had insulted another user, fair enough but I had no recollection of what I said that was insulting. Why is this a problem? Well, if you ask me, if people could see exactly what was considered inappropriate in their post, it may be easier to teach people to follow the forum’s rules. No I should clarify, I’m not suggesting that if I insult someone and a Mod removes it, there should be button their so that everyone can see what was said. What I am suggesting is that if a user has their post edited by a Mod, THEY should be able to see the contents of their original post. From what I have heard, the mods can already have such a function. Why not extend that to our posts?
If you are wondering what the issue with your post was, just PM a mod and we can let you know.

I know that. What I’m suggesting is something that will streamline the process.
Mods should PM you whenever they edit your post.
I agree 100% percent with the OP. Blatant censorship solves nothing. We should know what got deleted.
This would be nice, sort of like how a spoiler tag works, click on it and you see the original post, with the whole “warning, this post has been edited due to…” disclaimer.

I would support the idea but what if a moderator edits outa link to for example, leaked Halo 4 gameplay, users could simply hit the button to view the users post beforehand and see the leaked content. Moderators who can delete posts are not always online so this would be more if a hinder than help.
As already said just hit a moderator with a PM and i’m sure they’ll do what they can to help you out, Although your idea sounds like a good one to me.

nonono. hes saying that only the OP can see the edited post.
eg: if youre post is edited, you can click something that shows what it was before. but i cant. i can only see the edited version.
Agreed OP.
This post has been edited by a moderator. If you have a question or concern about a forum moderation decision, please private message the applicable moderator.

Ah, I was thinking we meant everyone could see it.
There is no doubt Moderators have this option, changing a few lines of code would certainly allow this.

The OP said that the only person that would be able to look at the post after it is edited, is the person who originally posted it, and the moderators.
So, say someone posts a leaked tidbit of information, the moderators edit the post, so now the only people who can access that post is the person who posted it in the first place which doesn’t matter because he obviously knows what the link contains, so what is the problem?
I support.
We actually have a set of rules that determine moderation. The best part is that you can view them! DerFlatulator already mentioned it, but it’s worth mentioning again: publicly raising a grievance over a moderation decision Is not allowed, but we are always available to answer questions via PM.
