My one big problem with Halo 5 is that it is too focused on who lands the final shot. From the bosses in warzone to finishing commidations, the only thing that is really tracked is who lands the final shot. It’s becoming a point of mild irritation to have my team working on a legendary boss only to have someone from the other team spartan laser him at the last second and get all the points. I’m also trying to get ghost destroyer taken care of and it’s becoming routine that half the time, I don’t get the kill only the assist.
While I don’t claim to have a solution to this, I would like to see one found
Last Shot! (medal)
Yeah. It’s strange how the final-shot thing works. You and your team can be pouring tons of fire into the enemy Boss, no chance of the enemy getting that chance shot… and they still obtain it somehow, even if you drain that tiny pixel of health left with a one-shot weapon.
There doesn’t need to be a solution, this is how the devs intended it to be.
Its just like any other kill. If I take out an enemy Spartan’s shield, but then my teammate “steals” the kill by shooting him in the head, he still gets the kill because he took the enemy’s last bit of health. That’s how killing works.
I also personally like the last shot method, it forces you to kill enemy Spartans and try to stop them from getting the last shot.
It’s annoying I try to time my shots when the boss’s health gets low.
Its just how the game is made, I would personally like the game too keep track of how much damage each team/ person has put into the boss, then decides who gets the kill. but I don’t think 343 know how to do that, or it would put too much strain on the servers.

Has nothing to do with what 343 can/can’t do or the servers. They said that this is the way the intended it to be. It was a choice.

This guy gets it! Thank you!
The way it works is kind of dumb i agree but it looks like its a “that’s our story and we’re sticking to it” situation for 343.
Just try to make sure you set yourself up for success when going after those Ghost coms. Arclights and Whiplashes are your best friends. Most ghosts crumble from 1 arclight shot, the ultra variant may take a second. Or use a whiplash so that you don’t lose the destroy medal to some one else during a reload since that had 2 projectiles as ready ammo.
Any rocket launcher that can lock to ground targets will do the trick too. Endgame Lasers are perfect for Ghosts as well with the fast charge time.
It may take some time but you’ll get there…i always see a lot more ghosts zooming around than other vehicles in warzones so there should be plenty of targets for you if you keep at it.

Finally! someone else! I just really like how it is now and think its perfect.

The problem with this, is what if one team did 60% damage to the warden, then the other team drives them all out, takes over the area with 3 tanks and gets the last 40% uncontested. Would it be fair then that the team that did 60% gets the kill? I don’t think so.

This is a great point. Or once warden gets down to 50% the other team would just give up.

Or, perhaps split the points by percentage. For instance, if red tem does 66% of the damage, they get 100vp, but blue gets 50vp for draining the remaining 34%.
The “majority wins” (whichever team does the most damage gets the points) scenario would make things interesting. If blue team gets more than 50% damage on the ghost marauder (thus claiming the points), and leave the marauder alive, it could be a blessing and a curse. The marauder could kill red team members OR blue team members. Blue would have no motivation to kill the marauder beyond the fact that it could kill them and they need him to die to get the points, but red team would have only the motivation to stop the marauder from killing their team. However, red team may choose to leave the marauder alive so blue team doesn’t get the points(because the marauder is still alive) and because the marauder is killing blue team. It’d be an interesting twist. it would also make things interesting on super-close matches where the Warden is the tiebreaker.

That is one option. I’m personally a fan of not splitting points up. Killing the boss is worth x number of points, so if you kill him you get those points.
Stop whining about war zone it’s a casual game mode if you want balanced and fair play arena. I don’t play war zone because I don’t like it, either stop playing it or stop whining about it
I agree. I think duel health-bars would be a good idea. The popular argument against them is that it would discourage teams from even trying to attack it if one team gets an early lead, but you can come back from that by just killing the players around the boss and holding that area. You know, exactly what defenders of the current system say you should do but without the possibility of sniping the final shot. Just more balanced all around.
And besides, if we’re going to start discussing fruitless struggle from an insurmountable lead, let’s address the elephant in the room: does “We’re not out of this yet; we can still take the enemy core” sound familiar?

I got a Last Shot with an SMG, that was an accomplishment.

We’re allowed to discuss things like this. Nobody is whining and nobody is asking for a casual game suggestion.

So if your suggestion is the same as the current system, why change it?
I’m not ignoring the bit about sinpers; you can just snipe them while they’re sniping the boss in both cases.
I also like the current last shot system. I hope they don’t change it. I think it works perfectly, apart from the rage posts that end up here of course.
It’s the only way I’ll ever get involved in legendary boss take downs because I usually run warzone solo (the few times I do go in there)
