The only thing OFFICIAL on Ranks/Progression.

Just thought I’d share for those who weren’t aware. This is pretty much the only thing that has been said regarding a ranking system in Halo 4. From Frankie’s new NeoGAF account (4/9/12):

> We will not be talking about ranking or progression in detail for a while. We are not using TruSkill in the same way Reach did. That’s about all we can say for now.
>
> Suffice it to say the game will match people appropriately - Tashi to Kyle, for example, and me to WalshOgreSkrillexTwinBlains. (Source)

This seems both hopeful and worrying. On the one hand, Frankie makes a distinction between ranking and progression. This implies that the two may be separate entities. I’m also happy that it’s not going to work like it did in Reach – which is to say, not at all. Of course, matching people “appropriately” doesn’t exactly spell out “visible, skill-based ranking,” but I’m going to be optimistic.

Fingers crossed.

It can work appropriately without being visible for elitist -Yoink-.

Just sayin’.

Not everyone who wants it visible is guilty of elitist -Yoink-.

Win.

+1 interwebz.

Why does it need to be visible? You would say that it matches people up with others of equal skill, but it doesn’t need to be visible for that.

But I can guarantee you that every elitist braggart will DEMAND it visible.

You know, for e-peen sake. Not for the game’s sake.

Don’t worry, Inheritor is back so Reach is back in full force baby.

I like the feeling of making progress when I play games. If I’m improving, it’s nice to see. That’s what made Halo 2 and 3 so addictive for me. As my skills improved, I could watch my progress, and I could look at my peers’ ranks to see how I measured and who I should play with if I want to win.

Not everyone who wants it visible is trying to brag. Some people like it visible simply so they have something to work on and improve. Others want it visible so that they can size up their opponents before the match, and know what will and wont work on them.

If it’s there it might as well be visible

I don’t think there is going to be two ranking systems

To me it’s a matter of winning the game being a priority. If it’s visible than everyone will want to win and take the game seriously, or they will look bad.

If they don’t want to take the game seriously, then thats where social playlists come in and doesn’t interfere with the people who want to win the game.

How’s this, you can track your own, but you also have the option of making yours visible or not. That way we know who the D-bags are at first glance

Placeholder.

Same based system.

Probably so, but I doubt “Inheritor” will return (at least not with the same symbol).

Looks like someone can’t handle being called ‘bad’.

Casuals often say competitive players are rude, yet they’re calling people -Yoinks!-? ok then

A system we know barely anything about. All we saw was one thing, from an early build from the game. It does not imply that Inheritor will be in, and it definetly doesn’t imply that Reach is coming back in full force. 343i could have been using Reach ranks or the Reach system as a placeholder until they get the new system and ranks finalized.
