Here is a little exercise based on observable team compositions in ranked:
- Team A: Onyx, Onyx, Onyx, Diamond
- Team B: Onyx, Diamond, Platinum, Platinum
Can you guys take a wild guess as to who won?
That’s right. The only thing 343 brought to Infinite back from MCC is the inability to balance teams. In ranked no less. Literally the only playlist where the whole point is to be matched against similarly skilled opponents.
They chose to bring back the abysmal ranking system. Not the working melees. Not the fun and free customization. Not the working grenades. Not the ‘you can leave if half your team left without penalty’ feature. The broken team balancing is the best the could salvage from the MCC.
The above example is a game from Solo/Duo queue, so premades are out of the not really a thing. The more observant of you might have noticed that there are 4 Onyx, 2 Diamond and 2 Platinums. Can YOU think of a better way of making 2 teams of 4 with those ranks? Does it maybe involve 2 Onyx per team, 1 Diamond and 1 Platinum? Would that be better? Seriously this is grade 5 math at most. It shouldn’t be this hard.
Seriously go check your recent games. When you win, the ranks explain it. When you lose, the ranks explain it. I’m still baffled this was the only thing they ported.
Infinite really is the game that keeps on giving.
