-Halo Reach’s Alpha Zombies is by far the best mode of infection for any Halo game, because of sprint. Zombie’s felt more balanced and playable because they were fast.
And that’s it. That’s the only thing I can think of that sprint did anything GOOD for Halo. Can anybody think of other positives, other than, “It makes the game feel faster paced” or that, “Spartans should be able to run fast!” Because neither of those are really positives IMO…

Are you trying to list that as a Con or a Pro?
Because I can tell you right now, sprint does nothing for immersion, unless you count breaking it as being good.
I personally find an odd synergy between Sprint and decreased Sword lunge distance. The opponent can still gun you down before you reach them because you have to get MUCH closer, but at the same time, it’s much more effective as a power weapon without having to camp as much, because of the boost in speed.
Then again, this may be because Sprint in Reach is not as fast. Halo 5 is a different beast entirely.

Does game-breaking mechanics such as sprint and useless additions such as a smart scope on a sword not immerse you in 343’s world? 343 would be very disappointed if you weren’t.
OT: The positive you listed doesn’t even need sprint, you can just buff the movement speed.

Remember those Halo 2 and 3 cutscenes where Master Chief was sprinting away from something? I sure do. It was very immersion breaking to see Chief sprint but then when the cutscene ends you can only walk.

Sprint is okay in campaign, as immersion plays a big role in such experience. Multiplayer, on the other hand…

So a slow moving, guns always up, robot is a way for me to feel like a spartan?
Just by adding sprint, I feel like a spartan while I play.

In campaign it can. Players want more of a “COD” campaign. Run and Jump off this ledge, Hurry and sprint out this building before it blows. It is more immersive to this generation of people. It is 2015.
Me personally I dont care about campaign at all. Ive owned all the Halos, and so many more games since Halo 2 was released. I have not completed a campaign since halo 2. I have no interest in fighting AI in any game i play. Always jump straight to the online multiplayer.
Sucks that Sprint has to effect multiplayer like that.

You can’t seriously expect me to read your tone of voice over text. I don’t know if you knew this or not, but sarcasm doesn’t exactly translate well over online.
And can you blame me? Have you seen some of the people on these forums? I can’t tell who’s being serious and who’s baiting anymore…

Not true, the whole point of adding sprint to zombies was to let them tactically use bursts of extreme speed to close in on human targets or to run from cover to cover. If they just buffed overall running speed by a little bit, it wouldn’t make a difference other than, “Now I can run slightly faster.”
If they just gave a huge movement speed, then it would be plain out unfair, and would suffer the same fate that ‘Flood’ mode and regular infection in Halo Reach where the zombies were too overpowered and could close in on targets way too quickly.
With Sprint, you have to tactically use your short bursts of speed to get from point A to point B, or to close in on a human. If you just sprint around willy-nilly, and run out of energy out in the open, you would simply get popped by a magnum.

Why does everybody have to use that whole “Immersion” excuse?
If that’s the only positive you can think of, then let me pull out some easy cons:
Sprint causes cat and mouse gameplay, which dissolves Halo’s punishing mechanics of how standing out in the open can get you killed. You can run from people who easily should have been rewarded a kill by punishing your ignorant mistakes. Also, because of chasing someone who you were about to kill, you can’t sprint after them with your gun raised, forcing you to lower your gun and run after them. Now when you try to stop sprinting and fire, they will already have turned a corner, forcing the cycle to begin anew.
Sprint causes maps to stretch out and become hideous in design, because if they didn’t, you would be able to run across the map in a matter of seconds. To compensate for this, they also detract a lot of cover, making most of it inconsistent, and just leaving you open in a multitude of positions for someone to pop you with a BR from across the map, so that you can’t run away in to cover as easily when you’re hurt.
Because of sprint, Halo 5 has included twitch game-play mechanics to compensate, which previous Halos tried very hard to stay away from. These include accelerated kill times, bullet magnetism, and detracting individual skill while adding far too much team skill. These mechanics were hardly ever present in Halos 1-3, except in Halo CE with magnums.Sorry pal, but your idea of “immersion” is messing with mine and other people’s immersion.
I can not think of one beneficial thing that sprint adds to Halo.
Nobody likes to feel useless in a video game, and that’s what sprint does for Halo. You can’t kill someone because they have a unlimited get out of jail free card that they spawn with which denies players from finishing their deserved kills. A game like that is a game that is not fun to play.
In other words, sprint turns Halo into a game that is not fun to play.

They should add a limit to Sprint and make the movement speed faster.

Exactly, it should stay out of competitive multiplayer, but be only in some unranked or casual playlists such as infection or action sack, because they really don’t detract anything serious in said gametypes.
I doubt I could convince any of you but I think you all are just being a bit nostalgic. We live a fast pace lifestyle now. I know that 343 should be making these games for the fans who have been around, especially considering the fact that Halo has been going on for so long, but they’re definitely trying to attract new fans too. There aren’t too many games in which you can’t sprint in today, I don’t know if I would be okay with a game, especially a shooter, that didn’t have sprint. But even if they were not taking new fans into consideration, at the end of the day it’s just more realistic. And while there are a lot of changes 343 made in terms of trying to achieve realism that I cannot cosign, sprint is not one of them. Maybe the unlimited sprint is a bit much but I don’t mind it.
