The only justification for micro transactions in Halo is serious CONTENT

Maps, modes, weapons, features, playlists, mods, missions, pretty much anything besides cosmetics that don’t affect any core gameplay! This better not disable the ability to earn points through playing outright or goodbye MCC population…,

I’d be incredibly surprised if they actually create new features / missions / proper DLC.
We’ll just see more cosmetic items and potentially even the more obnoxious kind that they added in Infinite.

They most likely won’t outright disable the current system, but I can see them changing the challenges and making them more of a chore to get through while also increasing the costs of items, but not affecting the challenge’s payouts.

That way they can still say that points are earnable and then the defenders will cling to that, despite it still being a fundamentally different system.

Look at the Exchange as a more recent example of that. Was supposed to be only for extra points being spent on past season-locked content, but then just became another FOMO store. Still technically fills the original purpose, but only with a small fraction of the same rotating seasonal content.

All of this still happening while there are still bugs within each of the games, a shoddy co-op netcode, a poorly made UI, an inconsistent banhammer, and countless issues within each of the playlists (like Infection as an example).

There is nothing wrong with microtransaction being in a game, but how 343 has gone about things and knowing infinite is majorly lacking in so many areas, They shouldn’t even have had the right to add it to infinite alone. It’s going on a year and 343 calls this a “live service game”, but what have they really done since this beta released as for as attempting to create a complete game???

So, if they are more than willing to ruin the experience playing infinite, I’m sure they will make it "pleasant’ in MCC.

100% agreed. If 343 wants to start pouring time and money and resources into MCC I’m completely fine.

If not say out with that B.S.

I’m basically in the same boat. I would be fine with MTX being added IF and ONLY IF the money made from it goes into further updates to the game. That being said, it doesn’t seem like the case. They confirmed there would be no more Seasons and that 2022 was basically the last year of support.

Placing additional weapons and vehicles behind paywalls is either intentionally malicious imbalance or hilariously self-defeating silliness, especially since 343i have been releasing devkits for the titles within MCC. Paywalls for maps and missions are essentially DOA.

mods

Paywalls for individual mods are also DOA given the availablilty of HxEKs.

“But what if 343i monetizes access to HxEKs via subscription services to avoid antipaywall cheese like this?”

You mean like what Microsoft did with H2Vista’s editor software?
Fairly sure that any attempt at pulling that now - especially after the FREE EK releases thus far - would provoke a nigh-thermonuclear outrage / uncategorizable BLAMstorm from the content creator segments of the Halo community.

No, paywalling aesthetic-only items is arguably the only “reasonable” option for MTX in MCC, as irritating as the very concept of such ‘heresy’ is. Hopefully it remains limited to “expediting catch-up for newer players or those without spare time/patience to grind out entire seasonal passes to get aesthetic content they might wish to procure”.

Hopefully.

“But wouldn’t mods bash down such walls?”

Not entirely; modding the armor to be available/swapping models with the paywalled armor only works when EAC is not active, thus locking out such individuals from participating in online matchmaking games and the (current) CGB until they revalidate their files/replace the modded files with the original files/etc.
