The Official Splitscreen Thread

What do you mean?

> That is what split screen is for, sharing the same console. By removing it, it seems that everyone has to have there own console that only they use. I don’t think you would be to happy if you were in the same situation. While you may have good intent, swapping the controller will get old with a lot of people, fast. By doing this they are pointing people, like me, who share a console at a disadvantage, players like you who have it all to yourself could care less on what happens to us.

Stop viewing splitscreen’s inclusion or exclusion in a vacuum. It’s not an absolute decision like that.

I’m simply pointing out there are options for people who are losing splitscreen. Buy another console and a game. Gaming is about as strong a dollar spent for entertainment as you can get (after you factor how much time is spent playing) anyway. Or, you alternate with those in your household. And it doesn’t have to be “you take a turn, I take a turn.” Shoot, joint custody that mess. “You get Wednesdays and Saturday/Sunday. I get Monday-Tuesday and Thursday-Friday.” That’s what I’d tell my kids if it were an issue.

Well, it says that split screen will be online and that it will require a gold membership, My brother and I both have seperate gold accounts on the same console, would that allow us to do SS or does it affect everyone who would need to do SS for anything?

This. Very much.

No I get what you mean on the taking turns thing, but it does cause problems if we have friends on who want both of u to join and play, it would hurt if your friends were on having a blast with your brother, but when your day comes, no one is on and vice versa. I just feel that removing it wasn’t planned out for the long run. I don’t think 343 was expecting such a negative backlash, Its not just here, most articles where this is mentioned 95% of post are on how split screen being removed is bad.

And holy -Yoink-. In 12 hours, this thread gained 20 pages.

Nope. Having 2 players on the same console would require split screen.

Well… As far as anyone knows, Split Screen is for multiplayer side of things (2 players.)
If you could give the link to your source telling ya this…?
Because it very much seems like it means to say online co-op, not online split-screen (which doesn’t really make sense in that phrase… how do you split-screen through networks? lol.)

I’ll be honest: I hate taking turns. I hate it.

And that’s gonna be really unfortunate when I’ll have to take turns doing the campaign this October.

Wow, this thread is really taking off.

Unless someone can help me find an Xbox One for a cheap price, ( I only need the console itself, as I have controllers and stuff) I can’t think of any other option that lets me and my brother play at the same time.

EDIT: I am looking, don’t think I am just dropping this on you guys…

I think in the long run it will be largely viewed as a relic of an older generation of gaming. It was certainly a benefit for players for a long time, and I have great memories of splitscreen (system link parties in high school and college were great). But if that’s a sacrifice necessary to push games to the next level, then so be it. I still play with those same players, but now I can do it every night from the comfort of my couch after we’ve all spread about the country.

I understand that 100%, it may become an old relic of gaming, but right now, it seems to be doing fine.

EDIT: Is it possible to by the console without a controller, like just the console.

Yeah, no. It’s a very minor annoyance. They stated that 60FPS functionality took priority over splitscreen functionality and that makes total sense. The numbers also don’t lie, splitscreen is dead.

I’ve seen this nonsense with split screen being a past for a long enough. Everytime someone grew up into this 20-30 category, he thinks it’s the past because it’s past for him. Nope. There are still younger players who wants this, what you wanted when you were playing with your siblings. There are also older players who started their own families and need more games to play with wife and kids.

Single screen will never push games to “the next level”. For me it means going backwards to times, when I was around 20yo nerd playing lan parties.

I’m not sure where you got that statistic of Halo selling less since 3 but it’s false. Halo 4 mp is Halo. Just because it isn’t what you expected it to be does not make it something else entirely. You may not want to play because they are taking out a feature that only a very small amount of people still use, but that doesn’t make the game any less Halo.

Halo 4 is better selling. How many times do you see people online using splitscreen? I barely see any. None of my friends use it, none of their friends use it. Just stop.

Best selling is an ambiguous term. Normally reserved for most sales. And you ignored the fact Halo 4 launched to 4x the amount of Xbox owners…

Bring it back. We need this. Halo wouldn’t be where it is without this feature

I will wait until after E3 to make my move, but, I found a refurbished One for $319.00 at game stop, it is just the console, Just like I want, but I was planning on getting a desktop to replace my laptop. I mean I can wait on the Desktop, my laptop works pretty well, and can run games like Minecraft, SupCom, and Planetary Annihilation, so I have to ask, should I stick with the desktop, or get the refurbished One?

This would fix my SS problem and give me my own console.

And 75% of its population left in about 6 days, though this had nothing to do with split screen.

That’s a pretty bold claim, I thought it was the story, gameplay and it was the online multiplayer that really put Halo on the map with Halo 2…and Halo 4 had split screen and we all know what happened there
