That’s just nonsense and this trend has to stop.

Frame rate issues that happened in MCC are actually very common. However other companies tend to solve them (even if it mean re-compiling huge part of the game and releasing multi-gigabyte patch like AC:Unity or Borderlands: HC), rather than killing entire thing. That’s the worst thing they could do.

> Halo 5 has updated graphics and is in the same boat as Halo 4. You cant expect them to push the game forward through the campaign if they have to rely on having to run it multiple times on the same screen. Especially if campaign has multiple routes, imagine 4 of you on the same screen taking 4 different avutes. Normally, you could use 1 fragment and trash the other 3. In this case, each fragment is now relevant, adding 4 times the amount of things on screen. Thats going to need quite a bit of power
I understand all that, I enjoyed all the Halo campaigns, Halo 4 campaign visuals were way better than Halo Reach.
There are people who prefer campaign, others prefer online single player and others prefer split-screen.
As the big Halo fan that I am, since Halo 3 what I want is a better game so I can play as I always have played, with a better experience, visuals, performance, gameplay, etc…
I like to play alone also, but playing online don’t give me the same thrill as playing with the same guys I’ve been playing since Halo CE.
Playing all the maps multiple times, starting always with Lockout/Blackout, its like a religion.

Guy who told you that it’s impossible to make split screen in Halo 5 is the same guy who couldn’t even make simple port of older games. This guy should be fired rather than being listened.

How can it evolve? It’s connected to our social structures. As long as we live in groups and procrate and our children have their siblings, couch-gaming is actually very safe. I hear a lot of “I don’t care about split screen because I grew up and I don’t play with my brother any more! Times are changing!” Well, here’s the thing: It’s just you! Not the world, and not other people.
How did you started playing Halo’s multiplayer (coop or pvp)? By split screen. Othewise you wouldn’t play it with your brother when you were kids, or you woudn’t go to your friend’s house after school. Here’s the thing: kids nowadays still have brothers, still are going to schools and still are meeting with their friends! Just because you happened to be in that particular age, when you have noone to share the game, doesn’t mean other people are in the same situation. When you’ll marry you’ll play with your wife, and then with your kids. We all do (and most of us have better things to spend the money, than buying another set of console + game + online subscription + tv for every and each household member) and just because most vocal demographic is this 20-30 lonely nerds, doesn’t mean times are changing.
This topic is 37 pages long and I’m not a fan of reading for a long time, sorry, I’ve googled and entered many sites but I’m still confused. If anyone could be kind enough to compile and confirm which modes/X number of players modes/on-offline are missing and which we’ll still be able to play, I’ll be very grateful (and I bet many more people will be grateful for that), then please tell Another Locust to write it in the first message so we can read it there in case there’s an update from 343i, hopefully it’s about Halo 5 will have all the modes back since day 1 release or at least they’ll be later as an update (and I hope Firefight comes back, I really loved it).

In an age of spoiled brats who get what they want (like you, I am still baffled that households can have multiples of the same console, TV and subscription), familial ties taken for granted and the preference of the distance the net provides, I think I reasonably have my doubts. Sorry if I sound very very cynical, but the world is becoming very distant from one another to me, and the market will cater.
Couch co-op is not an industry standard anymore. I get that a lot of people are upset about this, but games are moving away from it for a reason . . . because it isn’t as common as it was before. You used to be FORCED to go to a friend’s house to play co-op while now you can do it online. Yeah there are still a lot of scenarios that are covered by that, like siblings, but it’s being de-prioritized throughout the industry. It’s clear that they had planned on releasing it with split screen but it had to be cut. That’s how IT projects work, you have to cut the lower priority things to meet your deadline.

2 player Split Screen for multiplayer modes apparently.
That’s it as far as split screen is concerned.

I agree I could believe their excuses if Halo 5 was rushed out the door or a launch title but we have been waiting 3 years from halo 4 and like 2 years since the Xbox one came out. They should have time to do it right.

Heres the problem. Halo has traditionally been 2 player campaign co-op and 4 player splitscreen multiplayer. With Halo 5, there is no more campaign co-op and only 2 player split screen for multiplayer (not sure if that includes customs). As of right now, the reasons for this are because 343 has said there are some ideas and concepts in Halo 5 (revelead at E3 most likely) that has made split screen co-op not feasible on the Xbox One. Confirmed are a huge multiplayer experience and some campaign reveals at E3 which should shed some light on why theres not enough power to run split screen on the X1. Online co-op remains at 4 player and multiplayer seems to be at least 8 player online.

I don’t think you are understanding obviously it was possible to push borderlands which is just an up res’d port to 4 player splitscreen as they were moving a game from an older console to a new one with more power they could use the extra power to incorporate 4 player split screen with out compromising the rest of the game. Halo 5 on the other hand is built from scratch and designed to push the X1 to its limits, to give us the best possible experience in their minds and vision for the campaign of Halo 5 split screen has been dropped unfortunately but there is nothing we can do about. It will be missed for sure but I don’t want the game compromised in any way and held back just for the small percentage of people who like to play split screen I want the best possible experience for Halo and its campaign and if that means no more co-op split screen so be it.
My wife and I have been able to bring so many more players into the Halo world with split-screen co-op. People asking us, “Is this any good”??? and the answer from us being, we’ll walk you through it, and getting them into the story line, all the way through halo 4. I have played these games through the story line with so many people, so many times, because it has been what in essence made HALO stand out!!! Be different… A FPS/RPG, with the ability to share that experience with the person sitting next to you, or even with the persons sitting with you. I would drag another TV and Xbox out to the Living room just so we could have 2 people on each console, and play through the story line all together… I have lost all respect for what 343 has done to this franchise with this move… I hope they reverse this decision, I fully support others on here saying lock it at 30-40 fps, and take out some of the extra environmental crap… PEOPLE ONLY CARE ABOUT THE CUTSCENCES AND STORY WHEN PLAYING CO OP CAMPAIGN!!! Don’t get me wrong, the visuals help, but, the visuals in Halo 4 would have been good enough for me in 5 during game play, as long as the CUTSCENCES were amazing… I hope 343 is paying attention to the feedback they are receiving… Here’s to wishing on something…

I’m more optimistic actually. I’ve heard before that people are getting more alienated from one another, and with mobile devices console gaming (that’s epitome of couch gaming) will gone, like it did in some asian countries. That’s why Microsoft made their Xbox One: “console” where you don’t own games (you just have account with licence for playing - that’s what digital distibution was all about) and when you can play the game, while your kid is watching TV and your woman is talking through Skype with her friend… Market rejected that. Instead people chose straight, good ol’ console.
Split screen thread is becoming the biggest thing on this forum. It seems 343i, just like Microsoft 2 years ago, miscalculated people expectations.
Why FIFA is the most popular online game for both PS4 and Xbox One? Because football suddenly became more popular than few years ago? Or maybe it’s only AAA game lately that allows you to play with all the people around without any “ifs” or “buts” - quite similar to what Halo was in it’s glory days.

I guess it is a good thing you are not as misanthropic as I am.
And I guess it figures you would have that mindset. I am in Southeast Asia after all.

You can’t compare Halo to Fifa as Fifa for one is such a simple game compared with Halo it is ridiculous to compare the two secondly fifa is a 3rd person view and has no split screen what so ever you all play on the same screen in a tiny area you can’t wander of into a vast landscape miles away from another player, you ever wonder why if one player get to far from another player in the older games they get teleported back next to the other player??
Couch Coop games are the only games I play. Halo, Fifa, NBA, and even WWE 2k are staples at my house cus a bunch of my friends always come over for that reason. Mind you Im a grown man. Im 25 but we still do that. I can play story mode by myself but when it comes to online, i need the person im playing with right there.
Btw I signed up for this just to rant about no split screen in Halo 5. Im not one to go onto forums for this kind of stuff but 343 is making a huge mistake by cutting out splitscreen

First, you seems to miss the point. It was possible to upgrade Borderland’s split screen for next gen - something 343i failed to do with Halo. Now the same 343i is telling us that it’s impossible to bring split screen to Halo 5, because it would be same mess. They are using their own failure for explanation why they’ve failed again. Instead of working to get better results, they’re making lame excuses.
Second, even if you’ll never see split screen by yourself, you’ll aprieciate amount of optimalisation that split screen requires. We’re not talking about taking out content - we’re talking talking solely about graphic rendering, that will be pushed to the max, so split screen players will get playable experience. I don’t know what’s your knowledge on rendering, but that means you’ll end up with best performance and best details on single screen (while 2 players have half of your details, 4 players have quarter etc.). Reason why some parts of Halo MCC are choking up even on single screen (like some matches on Stone Town…) is that noone cared about optimalisation.

Okay but firstly you’re blaming 343 for the problems of the MCC and it’s campaigns which is wrong as we all know the games were outsourced to other companies so they should be blamed for lack of optimisation of the games and failing to up the split screen players for older halo games. Sure 343 should take some responsibility for not doing proper QA on the game but for the most part it is not their fault.
