I grew up with Halo, and my brother didn’t have an xbox when he first found out about it. Naturally we played splitscreen almost every day together. But he loved Halo. That’s why he played splitscreen with me all the time. So guess what he did? He bought an xbox, because it is a better experience to be online, and he wanted to experience the campaigns on his own. If all of your friends love Halo so much, why don’t they have an Xbox One? I barely had the money for it when I got one, but I saved up for a lot of time because I wanted to play Halo. So you’re either playing with someone who doesn’t even care that much about playing, or playing occasionally when one of your friends is over AWAY FROM THEIR XBOX. How are either of these big issues?

> Guess what: most people doesn’t love Halo that much. Most people already switched to PS4. However what’s most important most people don’t like spending twice of money to be able to play with their family - feature that shouldn’t be taken away in the first place! Buying another console, because developers messed up, isn’t some smart move at all. It’s very stupid actually, especially if you have family to feed.

> Also there are people like me, who actually prefer to share one, big TV. When I’m playing with my wife, I like to share the moment. Some nerdy, lan-party-like thing will not do the trick.
So you’re upset 343i is not supporting a playerbase that isn’t even on xbox? If people do not like Halo enough to buy the system it runs on, then 343 should not care about that group of people at all. It’s like a hot dog salesman getting yelled at by a vegetarian for not using a proper bun: Who cares, you aren’t the one buying it.

And I also play lots of old games on my pc, I know you want an “updated one” but it’s just not going to happen)
Microsoft already had this “we have product for you, it’s called 360” BS. It didn’t go well…

No. I’m upset that Microsoft expects people to buy multiple consoles, when they have trouble with convincing people even to buy one! I’ve bought their damn Xbox One and now I’m expecting to be catered properly.

Jet packs, armor abilities, loadouts, terrible splitscreen, etc…
The same I say Halo without split-screen is not Halo, I say Halo 4 MP is not Halo.
Halo has been selling less since Halo 3, as well as the online community.
343 added things to the game that were not needed and now they are taking pieces of the core experience.
Split-Screen is one of the pillars that made Halo the brand it is now, it can’t be taken away.

You are being catered properly. When did they say you couldn’t play the game? If someone else wants to play the game, they should buy the console. If they do not want to do that, they can play while you are not playing. You not being able to play with your wife isn’t a good argument. If she likes Halo enough she will play the campaign on her own. If she just likes spending time with you, you can both take turns or one can watch, since the game isn’t really that important. So what is the big deal?

Halo 4 was the best selling Halo to date. Halo 5 is nearing the amount of preorders halo 4 had at this point in its development, and that is on a new console. I’m not sure where you got that statistic of Halo selling less since 3 but it’s false. Halo 4 mp is Halo. Just because it isn’t what you expected it to be does not make it something else entirely. You may not want to play because they are taking out a feature that only a very small amount of people still use, but that doesn’t make the game any less Halo.

Times have changed and it does suck to see it go but it’s for the greater good. Halo is still very much itself even without split-screen. It’s more of an inconvenience than a serious downside to the game. Most people playing on their Xbox One are playing with the whole TV to themselves, online with their friends.
You could complain about the same thing with Destiny requiring an Internet connection to play but you would come to the same end result: The vast majority of gamers are not using split-screen, they are most likely hooked up to the internet to play online and they are even more likely to have a whole TV for themselves.
It sucks for the people who still split-screen, but 343 is actually doing good by the majority of it’s consumers.

Maybe not for you,but it is important for many in this thread
I´ve played the campaign of each Halo with my brother in co-op. And now you tell us we have to invest another 400 + 60 Euros to do that in Halo 5??? Come on guys. That’s ridiculous. The game can be as good as it wants. But we will not spend nearly 1000€ only to play this game together. Find a solution to this damn problem.

Halo 3
12.03 M
Halo: Reach
9.72 M
Halo 4
9.44 M
Halo 2
8.49 M
Halo: Combat Evolved
6.4 M
The core gameplay of all games is the same but, Halo Reach abilities unbalanced the game, took out the thing ‘give me a weapon and I’m ready for you’, instead you had players flying with jet-packs all the time. Halo 4 took out map control and Power weapons control. Even 343 said people ‘left’ Halo 4 MP much faster then previous games.
For people to buy 3 extra controllers just to play one game is because it matters.

No, I’m not catered properly. I bought console that supports 4 pads and huge TVs. They’ve made game with coop-oriented feature, but even though I’m having 4 pads and huge TV I cannot use this coop-oriented feature with my family. That’s just bad. If I was for single-player per device games, I would stick with PC.

Then I guess you’re not playing co-op with your brother. Not even saying that to be a -Yoink- it’s just the facts.
It sucks to see split-screening gone but the vast majority can deal with it. Sorry that you can’t.
I love Halo. I own and have read the books many times. I keep up to date with all the media. I have never stopped playing the games since I was eight turning nine in 2002. About 90% of my time spent in Halo has been spent playing split-screen co-op with either a friend or family member. The idea of them taking out split-screen makes me feel physically sick. If they go ahead with this and take split-screen away from Halo I have no idea how I will react. Honestly, it may be trivial to some people, but it has me feeling like I’m going to fall apart thinking about it.

> And this is lame excuse too. I mean they clearly designed campaign around 4-player coop, however unlike Gears of War 3 or L4D (or even previous Halo games), this will not allow local players to play together. That’s clearly failure of gaming design, as it doesn’t allow household members to play together. Nobody bought another Xbox 14 years ago, just to be able to play Halo through lan with his wife/kid/brother, and noone will do it now. Fact that I’m separated from game’s main feature (until I find 3 online friends… which won’t be that easy at all, as all of them bought PS4 already…) says to me that they’re following Destiny on it’s ridiculous path.
Frankie cannot explain further until E3 that is what he said. My post is not to justify 343’s decision, it is to tell everyone to wait for E3 for an explanation. After that I dont know what is going to happen nor do I know the reason for the change. I was only speculating. Bungie took out multiplayer coop split screen for one reason or the other. Clearly, they considered it just as 343 probably considered it.

same here… I will boycott the game… not that I would even have fun with it without splitscreen coop even if I bought it…

i play halo with my kids (two of them). we have two 360’s and one xbox One. we are going to get a second One but we always play the three of us together on campaigns. with no split screen co-op campaign then we have to share on one machine and that just sucks.all of the fun is taken out when someone has to wait. also when my neices and nephews come over we routinely have 8 people playing on two machines for multi player. what would halo be if there were no LAN style games when halo first came out? there was such a feeling of bond and friendship when we played the old 4 way split screen. what the hell is going on over at 343. I have been a halo fan since 2003 and this really sucks. who cares if split screen is 30 fps. we just want to have fun!
why make them waste time on an underused, out of date feature. like adam kovic said, 343 probably has stats that show how often split screen is really used(not much any more) so they figured why waste time effort and money on something a slim amount of people use. this thread has a decent following but simply not enough to justify time into that feature. and lan wont be dead without it. during lan parties most people bring their -Yoinking!- tv and xbox anyway cus splitscreen is disadvantageous

Even if they have stats that are saying most people don’t use split screen, they still should make it and make it good! It’s like if they release compact car without backseat. When was the last time some of us used it anyway? But it just should be there, because when it’s needed, it’s needed.
It’s like with this drm failure, when -Yoink!- thought that if people play connected for 99.9% of time, they’ll not mind. People were angry not only because of these 0.1% - it shouldn’t be there, just like little splinter shouldn’t be sticked into our eye.
