I am quite disappointed at this news. They oughta bring it back before October or they’ll disappoint even more players at release, especially those who prefer LAN games with their bros.

I like your analogy…extreme but I like it lol
343i save halo

There is just one reason-they fear the incoming -Yoink!- if Microsofts most important game this year won’t run on 60 frames and 1080 P. Seriously when I play with my friends the graphic doesn’t really matter to me. Let the singleplayer run at 60 frames and the local koop with 720 p and maybe 30 frames.
I won’t buy this game without split-screen co-op.
343 You officially killed Halo.

Then they should not have built the game so they could not have split-screen co-op.

Actually Xbox One should be capable of running Halo 5 split screen in full 60 frames. It was designed for scalable graphics (as it’s GPU is less efficient than PS4’s, Microsoft engineers putted more efford on making programming tools that allows to e.g. scalling resolution of each frame) and only reason why 343i isn’t using this stuff, is because they don’t consider it anywhere on their priority list. We were much too quiet when they gave us unpolished mess of Halo 4/H2A split screen and they thought, they can just save their time by not working on it at all.
343 said the game will support 2 players split screen to allow tha game running on stady 60 fps. It is better for the game to stady run on 60 fps rather than having 4 players split screen.
We do not know why 343 possibly did not put coop split screen in Halo 5 G. Destiny didnt because its an open world game (or some explanation like that). Halo 5 is a microsoft AAA game, meaning it will most likely use things Microsoft talked about years ago with cloud, changing environments etc. We would think that if the Xbox One is capable of running MCC Halo 4 in 1080p 60fps in coop split screen and the fact that custom games will allow 2 player split screen in Halo 5; then the campaign should as well. However, this may not be the case because a Frankie points out, it has to do with features in the game not technical limitations (see the crazy amount of replies before this one). He also says stand by for E3. I think we should wait. Clearly 343 dropped coop split screen as a sacrifice for something better, presumably.
I find we overreact too quickly. The same happened with the Xbox DRM thing. A little off topic but I wish those features with the DRM were still in place so I can share my games and not need to use my internet bandwidth for downloading games. (I go digital because I want to bring my library with me when I go to school in September). So please everyone wait for an explanation. We forced MS to explain the DRM thing and they were unprepared and the whole thing went overboard fast. Don’t do this to Halo. We dont want to make it become a downgraded version with no new innovative features.
I totally see many people frusteration. I feel with you as I played Halo Ce—>Halo 4 with my brother. We always did a run through on legendary campaign together at least once. We weren’t allowed to play through campaign alone the first time because we use to discuss the mystery of the story. I see how it can be tradition for some people. But let us wait and see. Lets be calm and let them explain. They cant explain till E3 and you all know why that is. We’ve all patiently waited for years about Halo 5 news, we can wait a couple days more.
Thanks all for reading.
Just a random thought/mad theory after replaying the retouched ODST… But they said 2 player local multiplayer, what if **(**big if) they ended up bringing back firefight (or plausibly a better Spartan Ops) with 2 player local. D’y think that’d be enough to compensate? Because coming from someone who did Endure with 2 couches I sure as hell might reconsider…

Yeah, but the thing is that there is not going to be a 2 playersplitscreen in campaign, only in multiplayer

This sentence batter be true, it will make my brother, my friends, and I feel better.

That was rather lame excuse.

And this is lame excuse too. I mean they clearly designed campaign around 4-player coop, however unlike Gears of War 3 or L4D (or even previous Halo games), this will not allow local players to play together. That’s clearly failure of gaming design, as it doesn’t allow household members to play together. Nobody bought another Xbox 14 years ago, just to be able to play Halo through lan with his wife/kid/brother, and noone will do it now. Fact that I’m separated from game’s main feature (until I find 3 online friends… which won’t be that easy at all, as all of them bought PS4 already…) says to me that they’re following Destiny on it’s ridiculous path.
This kinda scares me. What if 343 removes split screen forever. Some of my best memories in halo were doing the warthog run (halo 3) on legendary with my friend.

What is better for you may not be for other people.
Things change with time but this is a mistake.
I don’t have a Xbox One yet, so can’t talk about 30fps vs 60fps but I imagine it makes a big impact in Halo gameplay.
People have less time for video games as they age, I owned Master System, Saturn, Dreamcast, Xbox and X360, I played a lot of single player, since Xbox times, my gaming time is 90% Pes/Fifa and Halo.
I fell in love with Halo as many of my friends did, even if most of them never owned a Xbox.
Halo split-screen and LAN are two of the best memories I have from my life, countless hours of adrenaline and trash talk.
No other game gave/give me the experience I have when playing Halo.
That experience improved till Halo 3, i played a lot of Halo Reach also but not as fun, Halo 4 was unplayable and the maps terrible.
I don’t play as much split-screen as much as I did but the Halo we still play is Halo 3, it’s the Halo that gives me the experience I enjoy the most.
Since Halo 3 I’m waiting for an UPDATED/MODERN version of that. 343 seems to deliver that with Halo 5 but they take out the split-screen so game over to that.
Give the game another name, Halo without split screen IS NOT HALO.
I really don’t understand how anyone can say 343 killed Halo because they took out the option to play with one friend in splitscreen. I grew up with Halo, and my brother didn’t have an xbox when he first found out about it. Naturally we played splitscreen almost every day together. But he loved Halo. That’s why he played splitscreen with me all the time. So guess what he did? He bought an xbox, because it is a better experience to be online, and he wanted to experience the campaigns on his own. If all of your friends love Halo so much, why don’t they have an Xbox One? I barely had the money for it when I got one, but I saved up for a lot of time because I wanted to play Halo. So you’re either playing with someone who doesn’t even care that much about playing, or playing occasionally when one of your friends is over AWAY FROM THEIR XBOX. How are either of these big issues?

Yes it is.

Guess what: most people doesn’t love Halo that much. Most people already switched to PS4. However what’s most important most people don’t like spending twice of money to be able to play with their family - feature that shouldn’t be taken away in the first place! Buying another console, because developers messed up, isn’t some smart move at all. It’s very stupid actually, especially when you have family to feed.
Also there are people like me, who actually prefer to share one, big TV. When I’m playing with my wife, I like to share the moment. Some nerdy, lan-party-like thing will not do the trick.

Splitscreen does not define any game, it exists in lots of old games. You can still play Halo 3 (the coming of a new game does not cancel the old ones, I still love playing aal of the Halo series! And I also play lots of old games on my pc, I know you want an “updated one” but it’s just not going to happen)

not a big deal
