Now they did away with split screen, so now basically I have nothing. I couldn’t care less about 60fps, and I don’t play online. 60fps is a “would be nice” feature, but split screen is essential. I’ve been holding off buying an XBox One until Halo 5 came out. Halo 5 was the one reason I would buy an XBox One. So now, basically, I have no reason to buy Halo 5, which means I have no reason to buy an XBox One. Well, at least I can still enjoy all the other Halos on my XBox 360’s. I guess those were the best we’ll ever get. I think 343 has basically killed Halo for a lot of people. They’ve somehow lost their direction. Graphics and FPS are not what make a game fun. Gameplay is. They seem to have forgotten that. Sad. So Sad.

actually they just have to make the game lower quality when in splitscreen mode and it’ll work just fine and maintain 60fps.

This is more of a personal opinion (as re-playability always is), but me and my brothers enjoy playing halo together. The campaign will definitely be awesome the first time through, but severely diminished once I know what’s going to happen and when. For whatever reason, couch co op is infinitely more fun on second run-throughs once the initial excitement is gone.

That’s just bad software/game design. I’m a software engineer with a LOT of experience writing software for a living. That excuse is just a cop out. It basically says, they screwed up. Or maybe it’s just true what they say – the XBox One simply can’t handle 60fps, which I’m beginning to believe more and more. So, in order to do 60fps, they have to remove everything fun that the older versions of the game had. Not a good tradeoff, in my opinion.

Halo 5 is set to lose a lot of its more casual audience to call of duty (if what I heard is correct, they’re adding split screen) simply because they enjoy playing the game with friends. Even over xbox live, its nowhere near the same.

> Halo loosing split screen and CoD adding it will be a huge blow to Halo 5s player base.

Not a huge blow, but a blow nonetheless. I’d argue that the amount of players lost is larger than the number of players gained due to 60 fps.

Edit: This is speculation of course.

well a lot of the gaming community complains if a game aint running at the fps the were promised including splitscreen which does lower it cause it has to rend twice as much

They are trying to ensure campaign has re-playability, only now it will be by playing campaign online with the new features they are adding to this game mode. I agree that the lack of split screen is disappointing but I fail to see how that removes all enjoyment from playing the campaign more than once, unless you refuse/cannot to pay for a Gold membership (which personally I feel is a reasonable price but I know some disagree) or do not enjoy solo play.

unless you lower the visual quality when in splitscreen mode, then you can still have 60 fps.

While it seems good, it just seems to expensive, I was planning to redo a little in my bedroom and by a desktop, but I don’t know now, it is all up in the air until E3.

That’s also terrible logic. Why do they sell controllers separately if there are no 2 player games?

It is all just a way to get more money, plain and simple.

You can play system link with NO XBox Gold memberships at all. We make forge maps and play them on system link all the time. Two Gold memberships are $120/year. You can afford another XBox 360 pretty easily for that price. Obviously, Microsoft wants to force everyone to buy XBox Gold so they have a constant stream of income. Hopefully their greed will backfire.

360s are easy to get now, they go for like 120 like you said, but Xbox Ones, they go for at least 350, and that does not include the game.

Yes, I’ve heard all the hype about 60fps. And I’ve played Halo 2 MCC Multiplayer Coop on an XBox One split screen. It’s terrible. It can’t keep a constant 60fps, so the experience is very choppy and jerky. Yet, all the Halos that came before that ran smooth as butter at 30fps on much lesser hardware. I very much preferred the experience at a constant 30fps and a lower resolution than a choppy 60fps. There’s no reason they couldn’t do 30fps splitscreen, except that they don’t want to admit they can’t do 60fps because that will be admitting defeat. Be careful what you ask for because you just might get it.

>

> I can empathize with people being bummed out about the feature not being included. I cannot empathize with the sense of entitlement this community has or the notion that they would bumrush employees of 343i in person at E3 over this. Not to mention the amount of death threats I’m sure they are getting. Also counter-arguement is not trolling, last time I checked.

I don’t see that entitlement to be honest, nor anyone talking about bumrush 343i employees or sending death threats. Sure, maybe people that aren’t discussing here could be missbehaving and acting like s*bags, there will always be crazy people, as I expect sprint haters etc to have some individuals doing the same. But here we haven’t that case, here you have a fair feel that should be adressed with respect, saying that these people don’t matter, calling them “armchair game developers” for thinking anything that could put end to their worries… That’s no counter-argument, no need to check, that’s trolling.
Now that If you don’t pay Gold you wont be able to experience the campaign in its best, you need to understand how this people feel when since Halo 1 they could play It without needing to buy another console or paying additional money. Why does the Xbox One support 4 controllers If its flagship doesn’t? Why did the engine have been built around 60fps if instantly that negates split-screen and at the same time you state that coop split-screen Is a thing (Josh tweets)? These are fair questions that need to be answered.

PD: Forgive my spelling, I’m spanish.

I absolutely support this thread with all of my extra hearts! I learned to love video games precisely for the bonding aspect with real people in real life, right next to me. I think it’s ludicrous that modern games are removing what is for many of use the main purpose for the existence of video games. I CANCELLED MY PRE-ORDER for Destiny when I learned of no split-screen, and did not buy the game. It will not be as easy of a decision to boycott Halo 5, but I’m extremely disappointed after all the hype they’ve fed me. Why on earth would they think that a minor visual touch, unnoticeable to most naked eyes, would be worth taking out the best feature of Halo games: split screen? I love Halo, but not enough to be anti-social for it. I will be considering not buying the game if split screen is not included. I was not a fan of Halo 4 but 343 was really on a path of redemption for me with a lot they’ve been doing since. Lack of splitscreen is a huge backstep on that path. I loved the Beta, but I loved it in anticipation of playing with my brother or friends once the game released. I hope we can influence 343 to not exclude the main priority for a large portion of their fanbase.

being related to this, what about windows 10? can it play Xbox games, or is it just a fancy way of having a mobile Tv? could it stop this problems?

Exactly. And I didn’t buy Destiny for the same reason. They are turning Halo into an online multiplayer game like Destiny, and that’s not what I want and it’s not true to Halo’s origins.

No It won’t stop It, the pc wont run anything, the Xbox It’s still the one running everything so you only stream what the Xbox runs but in another screen. I wish It didn’t work like that and you could help relieve the Xbox with the pc.

Wait, so is there still gonna be 2 player split screen in matchmaking or is it gone altogether?

As far as I know it was only removed for campaign and 4 player.
