The Official Splitscreen Thread

Lol

All I want and all I’ve ever wanted is 4 player split screen co-op / firefight / ops.

A big reason why I loved Reach so much was the co-op glitch. I’ll forgive the MCC debacle if they add this feature - I don’t care if the frame rate suffers. This game should be about having fun with your buddies first and foremost. Oh, how I’ve longed for the LAN days of yore…

Vote yes on Split Screen

This thread could really benefit from a poll.

That thought crossed my mind but I ultimately decided not to.

May I ask why?

I felt that a poll wasn’t necessary to convey our message. We know that split screen users are the minority, so there’s no reason to reinforce that fact. The objective is to show that split screen matters, not how many people use it.

Yeah, I assumed that 343 would consider expanding upon split screen features because of the new hardware, not take them away. A few years ago, I was sure that the first Halo game on the nextgen Xbox would have 4 player split screen campaign coop, but I was wrong.

Understood sir.

I don’t care of the quality will slightly be worse, I love to play with 4 people on one console. Please don’t -peep- this game up 343

Hardware limitations is probably a big one. The more they push the console the lower the performance is. That’s why we get so much lag and FPS drops on split screen in H4: the 360 was taxed to the max running H4 for 1 player.

I also think people tend to over-estimate how much they will use 4-player split screen. There are always those that use it all the time, but I think they are the exception
> >
> > That being said I DO support the inclusion of 4-player split screen because I recognize that there are a lot of other players that would use it. I think if they were to include it they could include a warning that came up on the bottom of the screen. It would say something like, “FYI. 3 or 4 player split-screen will reduce the frame-rate cap to 30 FPS. Dropping frames may occur when there is a lot of action on the screen”
> >
> > This was true with previous halo games as well, 4 player split screen did not perform perfectly smoothly. I think if they were to set expectations appropriately in this regard, it would be ok. It’s generally always bad PR to remove feature that people are used to having as well so if they were to say they were going to re-introduce 4 player splits, but at 30 FPS after listening to player feedback, it would be good PR for them which 343/Microsoft really needs right now!

> I agree that Microsoft would really benefit in a PR standpoint if they decided to keep 4PS due to consumer backlash. That’s what we’re trying to do.

Well thank you! I try not to be an -Yoink- even when posting a position that doesnt agree with the thread. I rather enjoy debate and argument as long as it doesnt devolve into self-entitled -Yoink–measuring haha. If people knew how to debate properly/kindly then these threads would be taken more seriously and be more productive overall. Of course if someone starts the conversation off by being a total jerk… I can play that game too! :stuck_out_tongue: Luckily we don’t seem to have that problem in this thread yet…

There should be about 10 million people that buy this game come November, though hopefully more like 12 Million+ like Halo 3  . Even if only 1% of people will ever use 3 or 4 way splitscreen, that’s still 100,000 people. That’s certainly a significant enough number that shouldn’t be ignored.

This is true. That’s why i think a caveat that come com up on screen as soon as a 3rd and/or 4th player were added would alert the player that the framerate is now being capped at 30. They could lower the resolution too, you wouldn’t notice on such a small screen at that point.

Personally, i think this console generation as a whole is disappointing from a power perspective. Usually when a new console comes out, its better and cheaper than a mid range gaming PC performance-wise. PCs shortly outstrip this of course, but for a while consoles are, on average, more powerful for gaming.

In this generation that is not the case. The Xbox and PS4 are both less powerful than my 3 year old pc… They both struggle to maintain 60 FPS at only 1080P which is a joke. And i’m not accepting any learning-curve excuses for this generation. Its not Power-PC and Cell architecture, its 64-bit x86 on modified AMD A-series chips. Stuff that has been in the PC market and mastered for a long time.

Nice, Another Locust.
I was planning on doing such a thread myself, but became pretty busy and the thought flew away.
Good to see you decided to go on that yourself.
Now we can discuss 4-Player split screen without people arguing about boycotting.

Thanks. The boycott arguments were a serious issue, that was the primary reason for this. Control of the OP also helps, allowing me to establish a clear and constructive argument.

Just a reminder, I’ve updated the OP to explain techniques that will improve split screen performance.

I’d also like to thank GiantSpaceNinja for giving me the idea to do this.

No problem I was just the little devil whispering in your ear. You did all the hard work! Thanks for creating the new thread hopefully we can keep it more sociable than the boycott one.

I like your warning idea. I think keeping people informed is always a good idea. I also agree with you being disappointed with this console generation. Both xbox one and ps4 seemed to be a little underpowered compared to even some low end PC’s. I was thinking I would sit this generation out and just buff up my pc, but then Halo MCC came out and I took the bait. I always wanted to play Halo CE on xbox live. We all know the MCC issues and then I find out they want to take out 4PSS out of Halo 5. It was a double whammy of disappointment for me.

Split screen is a given, 4 player split screen, i dont know about that
