The Official Splitscreen Thread

> Gameinformer article specifically stated that “splitscreen co-op in Halo 5 is NOT supported”. But, you don’t need XBox Live Gold to play on-line. Who cares? If they are removing 2-player split-screen from Halo 5, I will most likely not buy the game. Part of the fun is being able to play with my teen-age son. Not planning on dropping another $400+ just to get back functionality that we’ve had since Halo:CE. I get that 4-player split-screen may be technically unfeasible (due to hardware limitations of the Xbox One), but 2-player? Come on, that’s lame.

Wow. This is like spoon of excrement in jar of honey!

I don’t know what they try to achive with this kind of politics. “No, you cannot play together on one console, but if you buy another console and another game, we’ll free you from Gold fee” - that’s just ridiculous. Sometimes I think these developers lives on another planet. I know that internet infrastructure became a big thing in last 2 decades, but our social structure haven’t changed much. We still have families for god’s sake! Nobody bought another another Xbox to play with his kids over lan 14 years ago, and nobody will buy another Xbox One now. More likely family people will just forget this game very soon and go back to playing Fifa.

Making functional split screen should be their top priority if they want to restore Halo’s glory days. With Xbox One they have all the tools they need to work with more aggresive lod systems and making it work smoothly and nicely-looking at the same time.

I’m glad it is gone. Never liked playing with split screen player. Glad it only 2 now. Can’t wait till the day it gone forever .

Spilt screen campaign is just as horrible. Have always hated playing spilt screen.

Where in their right minds they got the idea for taking out 4 player splitscreen is beyond me. It’s been part of the games since CE and it should last all the way until the end. Honestly, you’re doing more harm in getting rid of it than you are in implementing it. Actually look at the logic, 343.

I guess I’ll play split screen co-op with my friends in TimeSplitters…in that glorious 60FPS master race. Maybe I’ll arrange some four player multiplayer action with bots in that 60 FPS too.

Seriously though, this isn’t just something I’ll just “facepalm” at. This is just sad since even 19 years old consoles like Nintendo 64 can run games in four player split screen. Dropping local co-op sounds like a forced way to sell more consoles or that 343 doesn’t want to tone down the graphics and extra “bling bling”. Either way, it’s sad that even Halo is dropping one of the features that makes multiplayer way more fun. Online multiplayer is not nearly as fun as playing on the same couch. And I don’t know about others but when I play split screen with my friends, our go-to mode has always been Campaign where we could casually play the game and do weird and funny stuff without ruining it for others - not the PvP.

I am a little bit confused,will halo 5 have a 2 player splitscreen for campaign and multi-player?

Yeah I’m a bit confused myself. I’m getting different answers through out this thread. Is 2 player coop possible? Or is coop on the same console as a whole removed?

Maybe someone can give us a answer with a reliable source?

This is what I have always thought about games with no split-screen. Well said!

Ya, is there to be any kind of split screen or is there going to some in certain types?

Yeah no 343 this is not listening to your audience. Push launch back we don’t care just make a halo game. Every halo has had split screen.

Well I only bought the Xbox One for Halo splitscreen fun with friends. Seems like its time to get a PS4…

From what I understand:

Local Split-screen CO-OP: No
Online Split-screen CO-OP: Yes - 4 Players (Gold not required)

Local Split-screen Multiplayer: Yes - 2 Players

I can only guess that the lack of Local Split-screen CO-OP is down to the hardware not being able to support this, even at 30FPS most likely due to the level of graphical fidelity 343 want to support or some other yet unannounced campaign feature which also sucks power.

I’m just spit balling here but what if you were to be able to give orders to your AI Spartan companions via voice commands. This would surely use up more CPU power of the box but would be a pretty nice immersive feature.

You can do that with the D-Pad it as confirmed by game informer. I am disappointed by the lack of coop split screen only. I am not a big fan of the 4 way split screen for multiplayer. I always play the first campaign walkthough with my brother in every single Halo. But. I will give that up if 343i has made the Halo 5 campaign longer, more rich in story, and more immersive and smarter AI + more enemies on screen. I will sacrifice that. In this case I am thinking of buying another xbox one.

Not everything is about you

This is a worthless thread. 343 have ALREADY CONFIRMED that there will be local split screen co-op or some -Yoink- for the final game. We aren’t even at October guys, and already people are -Yoinking!- due to the lack of information. If you really want to use Social Media OP, go on there and find the damn tweet that had them confirm co-op split screen.

Just tweeted josh for an answer. I remember he tweeted there will be coop splitscreen. I hope game informer got it wrong. Bungie would have done the same thing anyways (ahem…destiny) but still no excuse.

Hope josh answers me

Don’t get me wrong, I will massively miss split screen CO-OP as I have always played through with a friend on each previous iteration, but if the campaign experience is much better as a whole without it then I can live with it being removed.

As long as Split-screen Multiplayer works flawlessly - not like Halo 4 which had horrendous frame rate problems, especially on forge maps which were unplayable - I will be happy.

The tweet that you are remembering does not specifically say ‘co-op’, it only mentions split-screen

We’re gonna have a nice long chat about this on Xbox today, okay?

You mean this tweet, which does no specifically mention ‘CO-OP’ at all?
