The Official Splitscreen Thread

I totally support this thread. 4 player split screen is one of the things necessary for Halo to be awesome.

343
You shouldn’t have done that!
If you don’t add split screen, I won’t buy halo 5.

I’m kinda disappointed too, but if you want a 60 fps halo game sometimes you gotta make sacrifices. Halo 4 was laggy as hell on 4 player split screen. I’ll just make due with the 2 player split screen

Who was the deciding factor to eliminate this from Halo 5? Was it Microsoft, so they can make more bank to force people to get live? Honestly, they will lose money over this deal. I love Coop and I won’t be buying a second console and halo 5 just to play with my wife. I will just wait until the game goes on sale at a discounted price. I could care less if my game was 60 fps. I don’t play itchy trigger multiplayer. I can’t stand to play the same levels over and over again. It is fun for a few hours and then time to sale the game.

OK, here’s how streaming from Xbox One to Windows 10 PC works:
The Xbox One contains 8GB of RAM, approximately 5GB of which are available for games while 3GB is dedicated to the OS and apps. When streaming to a Windows tablet or PC, the memory and system resources used to run games are still running games just like before, in essence the Windows 10 device merely functions as a different display that you plug your controller into. The game’s still running on your console the same as usual. just with the main interface and apps free for separate use without relying on snapping, more convenient for multiple users. You can’t run two full-scale Xbox One games simultaneously using streaming, the hardware couldn’t handle it. Now given the technical nature of it, it’s quite conceivable that you could run local coop on one machine streaming to a Windows 10 device as a second screen. It would internally be essentially the same as conventional splitscreen gameplay. Nintendo has accomplished it with the Wii U gamepad and console, so yeah, it’s quite likely it can and will be done. However, taking advantage of this possibility is entirely up to individual developers. Since 343i isn’t going to include support for splitscreen in H5G, it’s unlikely that the game will support local coop through streaming either, I’m sorry to say.

EDIT: Well, the Windows theory is obviously off, and as for split screen, since it’s apparently being included, steaming-based coop may well be plausible.

Why the hell.

This better be a huge -Yoink- mistake from GI. I mean I can understand 4 player. But ffs no coop!?

Drop the damn frame rate

Make the graphics look crap

I’d take wireframe and basic polygon shapes if it meant keeping coop

343 I’ve gotten every main halo fps game day one. If this isn’t fixed or addressed I may rethink that buy. Maybe I’ll get it dirt cheap

Nobody cares about special MP -Yoink- if you can’t even please the most basic fans. Hell halo 4 was meh at times but at least it had basic things.

And there’s no excuse . I’m sorry but it doesn’t take a nuclear power plant to run 2 players on coop.

Rage mode: High

And yes the anger is warranted from all of us. 343 is hurting something . they keep saying they care about fans and making halo 5 more halo like

They add all this nice stuff but lack of coop is like someone spitting in good pasta . Yes you could still eat it and probably be fine but you won’t feel right doing it

Please oh lord let me be wrong 343 let my anger be proven wrong so I’m just an ignorant idiot. Cause if you legit drop coop local you may as well just start making a new IP

Hold on a sec. I think I may be on to something here.

Without a doubt, H5 could support 4 player split-screen co-op. However, it would probably require 343 to lower the framerate to around 30fps.

But 343 has been putting a huge emphasis on 60fps ever since H5 was announced 2 years ago (as Halo Xbox One). So if there would be any indication of a lower framerate needing to be applied to H5 for ANY reason,it would spark a massive backlash and would further deteriorate 343’s reputation. (I can already imagine the ReviewTechUSA video now)

That’s it!

343 is putting their reputation before the needs/wants of their consumers.

Yay for capitalism!!

I agree. It’s a total disregard to the halo fans.

retweet this https://twitter.com/Reiku78/status/608506099050741762 and see if the respond!

Lack of splitscreen is atrocious. I don’t mind drops in framerates for 4 player multiplayer.

So now what am I supposed to do with my friends and family who come over and play Halo co-op? Sell the controllers & MCC away??

Can’t say I’m too concerned over the lack of split screen. 60 FPS is a bigger deal for me.

Halo 4 may have been laggy on 4 player split screen, but it wasn’t with 2 player. I’ve played plenty of 4 player split screen games though, and never noticed a frame drop, albeit my 360 is plugged into a CRT.

At the very least, 4 player split screen can have limitations (every frame runs at 30fps, texture quality is lower, etc.) in order to play.

Guys, come on. Of all these features 343 are bringing to the table, the one thing that cuts, make you not wanting to buy the game? Halo is still the only fps game that supports a online campaign with FOUR of your -Yoinking!- friends. Stop taking the piss. If you got friends over, switch the console. I’m 100% ok with them scrambling dualscreen for Campaign if that results in better graphics and higher fps, which will overall increase campaign flow. So stop acting like spoiled kids. You’re entitled to nothing. Besides, if you played H4 on any map with a 4 screen it was absolutely -Yoink-, textures not loading, massive frame drops. I’d rather switch my console around and actually enjoy the game, than cringe through a game with horrible score cause I can’t see what the hell I’m shooting at.

Although I agree with you. I don’t see why I shouldn’t buy the game because of this unfortunate event, I mean surely the large amount of content out-ways the lack of splitscreen.
And also this isn’t technically official, so yeah.

What’s the best way to rant about this?

Well, I don’t know. Because the crushing loss that we’ve experienced today was so devastating that I can’t find the words to express my rage. The word filter doesn’t help either.

And here I was hoping that this GI would bring about some good news, but hey, this is 343 Industries we’re talkin’ about here. You gotta appreciate the logic they’ve used with split screen. It’s stellar.

Now, I’ve been advocating that we should stand and fight. Little did I know that our protests would be met with a giant middle finger. “Hey, we know you’re upset about the lack of 4PSS. So, we’ll just be removing split screen co-op to make it up to you.” I just feel like smashing my skull into a brick wall and watching my brains splatter.

So, what do we do now? Do you really think that 343 will listen to us, or for that matter, even hear us? I’d hope that they will, but at this point, we all know that they won’t. And the worst part is that we can’t do -Yoink- about it. We can only helplessly watch as our beloved Halo gets gutted like a pig.

But do not assume that I’m giving up. Let it be known that 343 has kicked the hornet’s nest. Let them know that we will NOT be the next “Custom games are unacceptable, 343!” Let them learn that when you mess with the bull, you get the horns.

And we’ll do it by twitter spam. By smashing split screen tweets at all relavent accounts like there’s no tomorrow. A desired goal would to have each account get a tweet about split screen every 15 minutes. Let their feeds get clogged with our demands.

Who’s with me?

Dude, I completely agree.

Well aren’t you a lucky gamer. We are not.

I’m very very disappointed. Playing the campain in splitscreen coop was one of my favorites.
I have no words…
