Though I would have been fine had AA’s stayed, I’m really excited to see these new abilities too. I had hoped for something like this (even made a thread), so it looks like at least one thing I wished for got granted.
The problem: In that thread, I was eaten alive. I’m worried that a bunch of people are gonna jump on 343i for this new addition. Oh well… haters gonna hate… can’t please everybody. Always gonna be the people out there who want everything perfect in their mind.
Enough ranting. Morin’ OT! How’s this weekend sound for a gamenight get-together?

While the loss of something that set halo apart is sad, default thrusters\evade instead of sprint will satisfy this Vulpine.
I’m good how are you? I could be down for a game night.

I wouldn’t of been fine. I haven’t enjoyed them in either Halo game they were in and I desperately wanted them out of Halo. I am excited to see these abilities too, currently, I am cautious about them. They maybe great for Halo and they may be not so great. The fact that they are abilities everyone has I’m good with. It sounds like 343i is trying to add a positive mechanic to the game like assassinations.
You can never please everyone. I’m sure they knew if they removed AA there would be Reach/4 fans that wouldn’t be happy while fans who were against AA, like myself, would be happy. Every decision needs to weigh in the cost and benefits and it looks like for this game, 343i thought it would be worthwhile to remove AA.
We will see in the future when gameplay starts being shown or we play the beta. Whatever happens first.

I swear the trailer said all new Spartan abilities and then featured some kind of ground stomp

I’m great, thanks! Letting summer sink in…
Oh, and now I’m postive E3 is messing with my head. When I saw ‘Vulpine’ in your post, my brain converted it to this. I should be ashamed.
(I can never seem to get that ‘modal url’ fancy thing to work. I’m not caught up with the Waypoint times.)

Well, not to argue, but I would like to at least have seen them in the Campaign. Adds a new challenge to it, having a translucent sword-weilding Elite charge at you. Keeps you on your toes, and contributes to the excitement of the levels.
Of course, somebody needs to teach the Covenant that you aren’t that stealthy when you gurgle at the top of your mandibles.

Well Vulpix is a fox ^.~ .

Nothing wrong with arguing as long as it is constructive. If we really want to have a discussion on this, the best way for me to phrase it other than saying, “Armor abilities are gone, good riddance!” is to discuss what I think should happen next which is evolution. Halo 3 equipment was really the start of all this in my opinion. Halo: Reach took equipment, made it more than a one time use, and allowed players to spawn with it. Armor Abilities evolved from equipment.
I disliked it due to the fact I could spawn with it, and now I just have such a distaste for Armor Abilities due to the past two Halo games but thats not important for this argument, just throwing in my opinion.
What I want to see now is Armor Abilities evolve into something new and better. Starting off if an ability that not everyone have was unfair in my opinion and cause randomness. I want them to evolve into something that maintains balance and is fun to use. I also want them to be functional from a competitive standpoint.
Hopefully evolution will make most people happy, though I know there will be those who say, “AA are better!”, those who say, “this new thing is better!” and even those who say, “both suck, I’ll stick to playing MCC.”
Only time will tell.

Yep. The randomness could sometimes get on my nerves. But, all in all, I’m just excited to see wnat these new abilities are. A lot load of new button combinations maybe… also, more dynamic map effects would be nice. (Funny how we’re on-topic on the off-topic thread.)
Speaking of buttons, you know you’ve played Halo to long when you try to scope with your bow in Minecraft.

Exactly. More or less I just want randomness gone from Halo. I’m excited and nervous to see these new abilities. Nothing wrong with discussing relevant information in the off topic thread, there is no rule against that
I think it creates real discussion. A lot of the time I have a lot I want to discuss that isn’t big enough to make an individual thread for it but nowhere to discuss it. Its nice to have this thread to discuss the little things or anything really.
I’m going o be bummed out if they get rid of AA’s altogether.
It actually made things interesting.

How so? What was so interesting about them to you? (Know I am not attacking you for your opinion, I’m curious where you are coming from as I am unable to enjoy them.)
I Want That REMASTERED SOUNDTRACK!
nowz!

I just liked how some times is didn’t break down to a battle of guns, but a battle of armor abilities. What you or your teammates equipped could potentially help win a game.
From faking out someone with a hologram, Protecting a flag carrier with a shield, sneaking up on a key player/Mantis or Scorpion and taking them out w/camo … Sometimes what you equipped would be just enough to squeak out a win … or sometimes even cost you a victory.
I’ve been in a few games where the armor abilities had an impact in the outcome of the game. I remember a couple games where I used Camo or Hologram to get the drop on a player having his way with my team in a Mantis. I’ve helped teammates defending a hill with the recovery what-cha-ma-thingy. Pro-vision to see who is flag camping, and figure out how to take them out.
I’ve also been in a few games where my AA was fairly useless and offered nothing to help the team I’m on.
I never saw AA’s as adding randomness to a game, but it did add a taste of “the unknown” into a match which could make things interesting.

Whatever they end up being… smart move from 343I.
People talk about all these amazing strategies with Armor Abilities, but I never saw anyone doing anything remotely like that with them. The best I saw was people using Auto Sentry during Ricochet. All I ever ended up doing was using Camo because there were zero consequences to using it. So skillful.

Same here. On Reach it was either sprint or evade because you can travel to weapons quicker and avoid death easier. I.E. Break up the flow of the game
Can’t even remember the ones on Halo 4 but the same principles applied.
Plus, no more Sniper camo combo, thank god
While I agree that most people threw strategy out the window, that isn’t entirely AAs’ faults. I know that I, for one, have used AAs in very strategic ways. I rarely changed from HLS, but I would use that to its full use in most cases. It was an amazing tool for drawing fire from teammates and to distract vehicles and power weapons away from where they will be more effective so that they could be taken down easier. I’ve also used it to cover windows and doorways where a sniper had me and some friends pinned down. AAs have a lot of dynamics that could contribute to winning strategies and more, but most never seized advantage of this.
It wasn’t the implementation that was wrong, it was the execution of us, the community.

There is potential to strategies with AA, but nobody ever co-ordinates enough to pull it off. I can think of quite a few different potential CTF team setups off the top of my head, but I’d never bother to co-ordinate enough to take advantage of them. The main reason being it’s just not required. I always find it easier to go out by myself and play in the moment in Halo 4.

I think one of the main reasons(at least for me anyway) why people didn’t like armour abilities is it slowed down gameplay and made it so everyone wasn’t equal. With the Hard light shield example, if I’ve got you beat ie out BR’d and you’re a one shot, I expect that kill. Instead hls prevents that and may lead to my death

This. I think I see what they tried to accomplish with armor abilities, I think they were supposed to give players certain advantages to complement their play style and encourage strategy. For example, the sniper on a team uses Hardlight Shield from a distance to give self time to move to cover. Autosentries could be used by Spartans to provide additional cover fire, drain bullets and time from enemies, assist in locking down a vital position, or used as an alarm. Regeneration field could be used by players who liked playing a support role behind the front lines, to heal teammates.
However, we as players, thrown into Matchmaking with randoms, abuse these armor abilities. Many players use their armor abilities as much as they possibly can and immediately start reuse as soon as the AA ability is full. This is usually wrong as the AA could be saved and used in better combat situations, strategically,!but it seems a lot of players have the mindset of simply using them just because they can. It’s similar to sprint, sprinting is very loud and makes you clear on motion tracker, but many Spartans run around looking for people to shoot.
