The Official Off-topic Thread 7

Well, it’s another day. After co-forging a horse map, I have achieved my new highest score in Flood (555!). So…let’s look at a new holiday list. June 4th’s holidays are:

Hug Your Cat Day
International Day of Innocent Children Victims of Aggression
National Cognac Day
National Running Day
Old Maid Day

If I had a cat, I don’t know if I would hug it, anyway. :stuck_out_tongue:

I think I actually hugged my cat today. What a strange coincidence.

Interesting. I’m considering going for a bachelors in game design starting next year. Glad to know I’m not the only one thinking about game design as a career.

Soo… everyday?

… leave it to me to uninstall portal and then see this. Guess I better spend the next 10 hours installing portal again!

Is it still possible to get the “And They’ll Tell Two Friends” achievement on Borderlands (the first game)?
The requirement "Play with an Employee of Gearbox or someone who has this achievement."
This is on the Xbox 360 version of the game.

That’s what i’m currently doing as well. I already met people at my school who are also interested in game design. So far, i’m pretty good at coding in general and next semester i’ll get my hands on some 3D modeling.

I’m working more on concept art (which I suck at, but then again I only started 5 months ago), business and script writing myself, though I plan to look at 3d modelling soon enough. Suppose I should mention level design, though I forge probably doesn’t count for much in terms of design (but I have dabbled in UDK and SDK). Neat to know you guys are looking into it too.

Honestly I wish I had friends at school that were into this sort of thing… Then again I wish I had people in school I could actually get along with, but that’s a different discussion.

Thanks RJCCJ for helping me with that achievement, one of those I thought I would never get.
Also, the forum scripts still work when using the Stylish plugin. Using DavidJCobb’s Glassy Waypoint theme.
Someone needs to create a script for the pre-Halo 4 forum theme.

The online for Watchdogs is so much fun but it could be frustrating. Went on a losing streak for a while.

Sup guys, thought I would drop in and inform all those who are interested that I added another part to my fanfiction The Winter. You know, this. (Thanks Wangtim3. Seriously bro.) Anyways, how is everyone? It’s 4:00 am and I have school tomorrow. Or today depending on how you look at it. (Bad idea I know. But accidental all nighters are my specialty!)

Anyways here’s the story.

I need to install that, and figure out how to change it to my own, for a period of time before Halo 4’s release, I had an awesome background that I created and edited just for these forums, but after an update it was broken, so I didn’t bother with fixing it.

I’m actually looking into a Bachelors in Game Art. Full Sail University is an amazing school that I used to want to go to for a degree in recording arts, but I think Game Art would be a great fit. It includes a lot of different material and with a degree from Full Sail-one of the top media and arts schools in the country-you could get a job pretty much anywhere!

As someone who has done a Bachelor’s in game development at University, it’s important that you pick the right area of game development for you.

Do you want to have a larger say over the game that gets made and how the mechanics shake out?

  • Go more into Game Design and story telling courses.

Are you deeply invested in mathematics and would like to be on the cutting edge of game development?

  • Go into a graphics and 3D engine centric course.

Do you want to create indie games?

  • Perhaps go into a more generic software engineering course.

One thing I took away from my experience is that you can go and work for a game development studio on a Software Engineering degree easier than going to work for a software firm on a Game Development related degree.

If you can find a good Software Engineering course and stick with it, you will have more transferable skills. This doesn’t apply to game design/storytelling of course.

Food for thought.

I just remembered why i prefer winter over summer.

Its because of these flying -YOINK-ers

This is the one my teachers have been suggesting me to go for in the future…

I believe that is the Florida state bird, no?

Nope.
That is a mosquito. Not a bird.

Well. My all-nighter is complete. The sun is shining and I feel (and look) like trash. I guess I will be skipping yet another day of school.

I haven’t read up on the last few pages, but why are you staying up all night and skipping school?

Chicago bound this weekend. Lets put all of my Watchdogs experience to the test.

I think that was a joke.

Eager to get back to work! Just hope my boss will accept the fact I’m finding my own subs for when I have to temporarily be away. At least I’m not leaving him to do it!

Good Morning Waypoint! How is everyone today?

Ha! That’s cool. I was very young when I went to Chicago so I barely remember anything. You should visit the City Hotspots that are in the game.
