Just got a email from amazon to say the walking dead game I pre ordered with them won’t be coming out till October instead of September : (
Man I miss Blockbuster. They’re all closed near me. Trying to find the South Park movie as my GF has not seen it before. Netflix and Redbox do not have it. Don’t have Amazon Prime. I feel like Netflix and pals need to step up their library if they’re gonna be running the show.

I’m anxious to hear more about the iPhone 6. Apple is due time to be innovative with something again, and it may be this phone. Plus my upgrade is in the same month luckily.

Clean, efficient UI design that differentiates itself nicely from Android and iOS with the use of Live Tiles. The most stable and smooth-performing OS on the market. Features like Data Sense, Wifi Sense, FM radio and offline maps (you can still get turn-by-turn live directions using GPS and downloaded maps without cell signal). Excellent integration with Windows 8 apps and settings(that one might not matter if you don’t use W8).

Fair points… I guess I’m so used to using WP I oversimplified my suggestions.
OK, I’ll try to answer your replies the best I can:
-
High quality, for me, means consistently strong hardware between all models. This is actually more of a win against Android, which is an incredibly fragmented OS, than it is against Apple. iPhones are definitely quality hardware, aside from their pitiful screen size. I’m using a Lumia 520, the cheapest Windows Phone available ($48 on Amazon last I checked, and the #1 best-selling phone on Amazon), and its screen is still bigger than my dad’s iPhone 4S. Admittedly, of course, newer iPhone models such as the 5, 5S and 6 appear to be increasing in size.
Also, I’ve dropped my phone on concrete several times, yet the phone is sturdy enough that it hasn’t suffered more than a small scratch on the screen. -
If you don’t use MS Office, the integrated Office suite won’t appeal to you at all; you win.
-
Windows Phone is about 9000 times easier to configure than Android. Just set up your Microsoft account, and you’re in. Microsoft has been trying to strike a balance between the flexibility of Android and the ease of use of iOS. Features like customizable lockscreens have been added to WP in 8.1 to provide a similar feeling of customization to Android, while the OS is streamlined and unified across all devices to avoid Android’s fragmentation issues.
Live Tiles are a great feature because of how customizable they are compared to iOS while preventing the confusion of Android’s interface.
On iPhones, you can’t really customize your home screen aside from rearranging icons and dragging them into folders.
On Windows Phone, you can take the tiles of your installed apps, resize and move them to match your priority for them, or just remove them from your home screen entirely if you don’t have a need to access them quickly. Then, you just use the alphabetized app list hidden on the side. In fact, you can unpin every app and just skip a home screen altogether.
Live Tiles themselves are handy with the way they’re constantly refreshing with fresh data (New and weather apps showing the latest updates at a glance without even opening them, the calendar tile displaying upcoming appointments and events, mail tiles showing new mail in detail on larger settings, and still more). Compared to iOS’s Badges, they’re light years ahead. -
Stable may have been the wrong word. Smooth-running would be a better description. Windows Phone is probably about equally stable with iOS (way better than Android, though), but it is the quickest-loading, fastest OS out there right now. Windows Phone was designed with the lowest end in mind; I’m running 8.1, the latest version of the OS (equivalent to iOS 7.1 in terms of newness), on a phone with similar internal specs to the iPhone 4, and it’s running very well.

Data Sense is a feature that will track all of your data usage, warn you if you’re approaching your limit, and inform you exactly how much data is being used by each individual app. Wifi Sense is an automatic tool to log you in to wifi networks. If you choose to log in to a public wifi network which requires acceptance of terms, your phone will automatically handle connection and login by itself.
There are similar features called Battery Saver and Storage Sense which work for power and storage consumption. -
Yeah, most people don’t, but it’s still a nice feature for those who do
-
Offline maps are a feature Apple and Google have yet to catch up to; if you have steady cell signal, you won’t need offline maps, but it may come in handy if you’re trying to avoid burning through cell data.
-
Yep, I forgot that 9 out of 10 people hate Windows 8’s guts. Well, it’s a handy feature for me anyway, since I can work on an assignment on a college computer, save it to my OneDrive, access and work on it with my phone, then just pop open my laptop, open File Explorer, hit OneDrive, and pick up where I left off. File syncing between Windows devices is getting pretty streamlined.
-
If you don’t like Cortana, I’ve got nothing to say here.
OK, there’s my reply. Remember, this is my opinion;.saying that one phone is best is entirely subjective. However I’m certain that if you switched to Windows Phone, you wouldn’t regret it.
Oh, yeah! One other feature I’m sure you’d use: Xbox Live integration. Using your Windows Phone, you can view your profile, check achievements, chat with friends, and more directly from the phone itself. Also, playing games on Windows Phone will unlock Xbox Live achievements for them and boost your gamerscore.

So, I’ve been having a blast with Daiblo III, it’s such a lot of fun to play, & I don’t even know why! But is has me hooked.

The South Park movie is very VERY funny. On the topic of Blockbuster & Netflix, South Park actually did an episode about that whole ordeal. But yeah, I miss them too, they never seemed to disappoint me if I wanted to rent a movie or game.
YES! I finally rode EVERY roller coaster at Six Flags Great Adventure. Now all I have to ride is Zumanjaro and SkyScreamer.
Anybody else here like roller coasters?

My iPhone 4 is pretty pitiful, but at the time was quite a fancy doo-dad. So I take it by this that there are Lumia phones with larger screens, that are also more durable at the same time, and the same quality out put on the screen?(movies, etc?)
I very much like the simplicity of the Apple home pages(everything is super easy to locate and differentiate) - but you’re right in saying that it’s pretty bland you can only drag them into folders. On my 4 I can’t even make new/custom folders to organize my icons. I am stuck with 4 or 5 “pre set” folder types to put everything into. This is probably my biggest beef with my iPhone. And one of the better selling points of a WP.
When my 4 was new it was very fast and crisp. As it has begun to degrade, it becomes less and less so. How do WPs compare? My 4 lasted roughly 2 years before it began it’s slide down the slippery slope of iPhone death.
I never would have considered going offline to save data. Probably because I don’t know how to do so manually on my iPhone. Hahaha. I have no idea how big the plan is, that I have(shared with parents) but it seems plenty large enough to oblige 3 iPhones and a Motorola Droid without reaching limit(unless my dad has big uploads for work on his Droid).
I don’t personally care for the one drive much. Likely because I have little to no experience with it and haven’t needed any. /lazy In all seriousness however I would probably be okay with it if somebody ran me through it and I had an actual need to use it consistently.
“Cortana” is not enough to sell me on a phone, no.(That’s like saying I’m only buying an iPhone for iTunes…) But don’t get me wrong, it is definitely cool. It’s just not a feature that makes me go “AMG I NEED A WP!!”.
How are WPs when it comes to apps? What is available? Does it have a task manager where you can “kill” apps you don’t want running in the background? (Or something similar). How often do they need charged? How comfortable are they to hold? Are there protective cases out there?(Can’t say I’ve seen many, if any at all…) How do they hold up to LONG distance travel? By which I mean going from country to country? This possibly depends on the carrier and plan in place, but I am definitely tired of my iPhone being an almost useless hunk of metal when I visit the UK.

Two guys walk into a bar. One says: “I’ll have some H2o.”
The second guy says: “I’ll have H2o too.”
The second guy dies.
If you get this, kudos.

When my phone is fully charged, it behaves like a normal phone at 60%. It dies within two hours of use. It’s awful. I had to buy a charging case.
I’ll be getting it replaced as soon as my parents are back from vacation.
