THE OFFICIAL HALO FEEDBACK THREAD

I agree that armor abilities catered more to casual players than harcore fans in Reach. I am a casual player, I play for fun, and as such, I liked Aromor abilities . . . they are insanely fun in custom games. But I occasionally like competitive gametypes. Here is what I would like to see for Halo 4:

AA for: Firefight, Invasion, Action Sack, Player-made maps, and Custom games ONLY
AA would be turned off for all other matchmaking gametypes (except sprint).

Personally, I think the more custom game options the better. Take what you want out of Matchmaking, 343, but I want to be able to choose to turn turret destructability off/on, turn armor abilites off/on, turn Halo 1 pistol off/on, etc. in CUSTOMS.

I miss the shots fired - shots hit - accuracy % that you used to get in the start on halo 2

Portal guns FTW

Symbols like the ones on the shoulders (there’s an official name for them, but I’m totally blanking right now), but all over. Like a Batman symbol on your chest or your favorite football players’ number on your back. Admittedly there would probably be liscensing issues, but it would be awesome.

(This was a thread I made.)

Let me start by saying that Halo’s 1-3 had the highest, and most consistent populations out of all Halo games. More people bought Halo 3 than Reach, and more people played Halo 3 than Reach, and for longer. The reason?

Halo is pretty much the only console FPS that even has a hint of competition built into it. This right here is why its MP is loved by so many. Competitive players really have nowhere else to go, which works out just as well because Halo is pretty much the perfect console shooter.

Reach stepped away from that competitiveness quite a bit. In fact, had they made any more changes, it would barely be recognizable as a Halo game anymore. What with Bloom, AAs, Assassinations, slow movement, low jump height, Credits, bland art, and the failure of a ranked playlist known as The Arena, which judged you based on solely your K/D, Reach was a failure from a competitive standpoint. This is my opinion, but I’ve been around long enough to know what Halo should feel like.

So did many others apparently, because Reach’s gimmick filled, noob-friendly gameplay drove away over 80% of the original launch day population. Reach had roughly 1 million players on release day, and today, less than a year later, it only has about 200K at peak times. Halo 3 still had about 70% of its original population after a little less than a year, so we can conclude that competitive with a large skill gap = good. It leaves room for improvement for everybody, and extends the game’s life span by years. You can argue that Reach had competition, but really it didn’t. It was basically Reach vs Black Ops, as that was the only other huge FPS that came out around that time. Halo 3 was up against CoD 4, W@W, MW2, Black Ops, Reach, and truckloads of other FPS along the way, and it still puts up 30,000 players per day.

Many people here say, “AAs can work if done properly,” or, “Bloom just needs a tweak,” but the reality of the situation is that the ONLY way to bring ALL of Halo’s population back is to get rid of all of Reach’s gimmicks entirely. Guys, if you want Halo to be king again, we need to get it back to its roots and build from THERE.

343i, PLEASE do not kill Halo by building from the most unsuccessful title in the franchise. Halo ended with a fairly good reputation, but please don’t try to resurrect it with a Reach v2 and ruin Halo for many loyal fans. PLEASE 343i, acknowledge us competitive players who were punished by Reach. Return Halo to the king of console FPS.

Please please please please please please please please please remove spartan evade from all MM playlists.

It is so unfair

It is just as cheap as the unmodified armor lock. Don’t modify spartan evade just take it out.

I like most of ideas from Halo Fest TU update (bloom needs to go) but I’m not sure about the sword block going away. In my opinion it takes a certain amount of skill to time the block anyway so it should stay. You have to be sneaky to suceed with the blade, don’t reward players who aren’t smart enough to figure out how to score frags. I guess you can say the same thing for the bloom…except some players just spamm the tigger and get the frags. The last thing is the movement speed of the game, why not make the multiplayer like ‘team classic’ in terms of movement speed? I find in ‘team classic’ I slip off of things way less than the regular multiplayer. It just kindof feels like you slide around a lot…do you get that when you play? I don’t want to be too picky. I thought armor lock was to help you avoid large amounts of damage…maybe you should just shorten the time you can stay locked out instead of nerfing it so hard. Just a suggestion.

7:42 PM Dear 343,

I was wondering whether or not you could implement some way of reporting other players who verbally assault you whether in Halo Reach or in future titles. I know this is Xbox Live and there are many rowdy players out there who will just troll and trash talk but there is a limit to the constant “you’re a Yoink!, you have no life that’s why you’re a Lt Col Grade 3” I can absorb while playing Matchmaking.
Ive been with the series since the original Combat Evoled and have bought every Halo book and comic released. When Halo Reach came out I played it for hours on end and because of that I achieved a high rank before most people had even touched every feature of the game. As you might expect I was very proud of my high rank and the fact I reached it very early, the only problem is other players were not as happy to see a Lt Col Grade 3 so early on. It got to the point that I couldn’t enter a matchmaking lobby without someone telling me that I didn’t have a life. Even teammates would send me messages telling me to find something else to do and/or other disrespectful phrases and words.
It came to the point where I could no longer communicate with other players or just enjoy some Team Slayer. I know some people may be thinking that “it happens to everyone there is nothing you can do” or “just ignore them” but try imagining having 2 players in about every lobby you enter calling you a “Yoink! no-life” and having to receive a message everyday regarding your rank.

Obviously these people acted immaturely which is mot uncommon among online gaming but I eventually quit playing Reach for months until just about everyone had reached my rank. I would say these players ruined the Reach experience for me for some time. Xbox Live report options have proven themselves to be pretty unreliable (no disrespect to Microsoft intended).

All I ask is for a report option dealing directly with this issue. Penalize them how you want but I would just like to know that their constant bombardments of harsh words only got them on a list of auto-mutes or however they are punished. I understand trash talking is part of playing online but it can go too far.

Thank you whoever reads this, hopefully next time I play a new Halo game I can enjoy my high rank and play in public matches. For the most part I do not play in a party only increasing the chances of being degraded.

To my fellow forum members, I would like to hear what you think about this. Whether you think they should be penalized or maybe you think it’s just part of playing online? Whatever it is feel free to discuss!
Looking forward to reach max level in Halo 4!

Note: When I say Lt Col Grade 3 Im referring to when I first reached that back when Reach was still “new”. Im a Legend now but at that time I had only seen a couple other players as high as me or anywhere near me for that matter.

Please no loadouts and infinite ammo in Halo 4 Firefight
My main reason for disliking loadouts and infinite ammo is simple, it makes you feel like your the invader thats bringing firepower to the battle, instead of being the defender, who’s trying to survive an invasion of Covenant forces. I liked how ODST did it by starting you with two default weapons and having to scavenge off of enemy forces to survive. And when you were low on UNSC ammo you had to be conservative, and use the amout of ammo that was left in the weapon racks. This made you feel vulnerable, like if you weren’t carefull you would be overun and get killed. This added to the fear factor a lot. It felt more serious and realistic to be stuck with limited ammo and then get rewarded at the end of the round with a fresh supply. This made you feel like you really accomplished something special and are now reaping the benefits. Especially if your fighting along, it felt like your a lone surviver who will soon get more weapons if only you hold out a tad bit longer. I just feel the essense of firefight is trying to survive as a “survivor”, and having infinite ammo cabnets doesn’t make it feel like survival, just the opposite, like you have cheats on or something. Whats so wrong with having a fresh supply of ammo and weapons at the beginning of each round like you had in ODST? That was actually fun, and kept me coming back for more to try and attempt to beat the par score. Whats the incentive to reach the par score if you have infinite ammo to do it? No incentive I say!

The customization of gametypes and maps is what makes Halo unique from other shooters. If you take something out of Matchmaking or the Campaign that was in previous Halos, so be it, I trust you and your reasoning. But it doesn’t hurt to add those things as options in custom games. For instance, a LOT of people would LOVE a feature to turn the Halo 1 pistol on/off as a side feature, it pleases all audiences that way. Wanna take armor abilities out? Go for it, but please add them to customs! In that light, these are my suggestions for options:

Toggle (on/off) in Custom Game Options:

Fall damage
Turning off scopes
Non-detachable turrets
Night or day
Weather effects (rain, snow, etc.)
‘Resolve ties’ option
‘Force even teams’ option
UNSC vs. Covenant for all gametypes
UNSC vs. Covenant Weapon/Vehicle toggle (if turned on, Elites can only use their own weapons/vehicles, and vice versa)

Other Custom Game Options:

Vehicle respawn modifier. (Ex. Setting vehicles to ‘no respawn.’)
Weapon respawn modifier. (Ex. Setting weapons to ‘half-time’ respawn.)
Set rounds to ‘first to . . .’
Random weapons on map, not a random set of weapons
‘Team traits’ for all gametypes (Ex. Starting one team out with swords and the other with shotguns in CTF or slayer, or playing a Splinter Cell-like territories game)
Add Multi-team Assault
Name loadouts
Limit which vehicles, items, and weapons each team can and cannot use.
Health decay which eventually results in death unless replenished by vampirism
Set the infected to become Elites or the Flood
RACE: Allow teams and random checkpoints
Be able to get extra points for kills in gametypes like King of the Hill, Oddball, etc.
Allow vehicle indestructibility and yet still allow people to die in the vehicle
For gametypes where people can only die by assassination, require players to hold down the melee button for a true assassination, do not allow people to die by merely getting tapped in the back for this game option.
Add an option for complete invisibility like in Halo 3
Allow infection with 1 life to work. The game does not end when the zombie dies.
Edit player traits with a loadout (gravity, shield, etc.)
Zombie loadouts

Missing Options that were in Halo 3 but not Reach:

SLAYER
Assist points
Elimination points

ODDBALL
Kill points
Ball kill points
Ball carrier kill points
Initial ball delay
Ball respawn delay
Ball count

KING OF THE HILL
On hill points
Uncontested control points
Off hill points
Kill points

TERRITORIES
Respawn on capture
Defender traits
Attacker traits

JUGGERNAUGHT
Takedown points
Goal arrival points
Suicide points
Betrayal points
First jugg (random, first kill, first death)
Next jugg (Killed by jugg, random, killer of jugg)
Next jugg delay
Allied against jugg
Goal zones
Goal zones movement
Goal zone order
Respawn on lone juggernaut (allows respawn of dead players when jugg dies, even if out of lives)

INFECTION
Alpha zombie traits
Next zombie (winner)
Percentage of zombies

OTHER
Shield Vampirism
Grenade Regeneration
Respawn on kills
Shield/health decay

Game Types:

New Infection Gametypes

  • A ‘tag’ game where you do not want to be ‘it.’ The first person to die would be ‘it,’ and they must kill someone else to get rid of the ‘virus,’ the person with the least amount of time with the virus at the end wins.
  • A gametype where if you have the virus too long, you die and don’t come back (tag elimination).
    Bring back VIP
    Territories (take all to win)

In Personal Settings:

Set vehicle views from different seats to 3rd or 1st person
Black armor (secondary color only) option, as well as chrome (shiny) color.
Add Arbiter armor/new armor
Allow one arm to show your personal symbol, and the other your clan symbol.
Set HUD color
Set your sword color

Personal Customization:

Be capable of playing as an ODST in multiplayer. This can be accomplished by implementing the handicap mechanism from Halo 2, except you become an ODST to make it clear to other players that you are handicapped.
Allow your Clan Symbol to appear in clan matches on your base, flags, and vehicles.

Maps:

More destructible places on multiplayer maps.
More interaction with surroundings: buttons, triggers, being able to shoot out the lights, open doors by blasting them down, etc.

Vehicles:

More map-specific vehicles like the snow vehicles on Avalanche.
Add the transport (armored) Warthog to multiplayer.
Add civilian vehicles to multiplayerBoatsBring back the Chopper. It was the only vehicle meant for ramming other vehicles. It was unique.
Add the Elephant to a map. Mobile bases were unique

Weapons:

Make the Fuel Rod’s shot arc like in Halo: CE. This made the fuel rod a lot different from the Rocket Launcher and better for different jobs.
When you melee someone with a Needler, allow needles to stick in them and explode.
Bring back the flamethrower
Grenade Regeneration

Forge:

Clear everything off the map by clicking an option
Undo/Redo option
Copy and paste button, so you don’t have to go to the menu over and over
Make all weapons/vehicles/objects available for all maps
Interlock objects to move them around as oneGet rid of the item/object limits. The finance limit is the only one needed.
Forge triggers (EX. push a button and something happens)
Make objects disappear after an allotted time
Edit individual player traits according to spawn point (one person has sword, another has a pistol)
If I choose phased, normal, or fixed, leave it at that setting.
A” sticky" option allowing any object stick to any surface
“Terrain” An option to create water effects or trees and grass

Extra Features:

A custom games menu and search engine for matchmaking
Allow night vision in multiplayer
More stats on: total headshots, average shooting accuracy, etc.
View unlocked movies from the campaign
Allow armor to show battle damage with each life.
Add visor effects (Ex. When shot in the face with plasma, or get Covenant goo on you)
Clan Support
Allow players in the lobby to see an overhead view of a custom map in the lobby before playing it, once loaded and waiting.
Be able to save a video of a match without having to go into the Theater.
Allow people to veto a map before it loads.
Potential for 24 players
Bring back announcer saying “New Zombie.”
Separate zombies and humans as teams on the scoreboard to easily see how many people are still human
Add team chat
Add all previous emblems
If a team has won 2 rounds on offense and the other has not won any, don’t make them play a 4th round. One team already won.

Controller Alterations:

Utilize one of the unused buttons while driving the Warthog to switch seats quickly, in case you get in the wrong side or the driver dies.
Customize your controls button-by-button.
Allow for weapon swapping between players.

More medals in multiplayer:

No-Scope (only for snipers)
Drive-By (kill someone from the passenger seat of a warthog/spectre)
Grenadier (stick someone from a long distance or get a lot of sticks)
Expert Sniping (kill 4 people with one clip of ammo)
Go for the Head (5 headshots in a row)
Catching Air (shooting someone with a rocket or sniper in midair)

I’ve copy pasted what I originally posted in a thread titled, “Looking Forward to 343i’s Future Projects.”

> I know the title may incur the reaction of, “Well duh, everyone on this forum must be pretty excited about 343i’s future projects.” However, my perspective, at least initially, was different. Bungie was passing on Halo to another developer which obviously consisted of former Bungie employees, but to me, it felt like a way to simply make all the money out of the cash cow known as Halo as possible. Considering MS owned the rights to Halo, this wouldn’t have surprised me at all.
>
> I began to reconsider this when I saw a “ViDoc” 343i made about the Defiant Map Pack. While it showed off the new maps at the time, the team also talked about their intimate relationship with the Halo franchise; how they were all fans wanting not only to pleas the community, but please themselves with their work.
>
> Finally, Bungie celebrated its last affiliation to the Halo Universe as developers with Bungie Day 2011, Bungie vs. The World. It was a bittersweet moment knowing as the makers of the Halo franchise were now departing their baby, but that it would not be left untended. San Diego Comic Con wasn’t very informative because no streaming of the events were permitted.
>
> And then came along Halo Fest. This s what changed my perceptions of the upcoming future and present fate of the Halo Universe completely. I watched the panels which were kindly uploaded by IGN, where some truly excellent questions were asked by the attendees. I saw the panel with Marty and all the terrific voice actors, and it truly brought joy to me. It was a fantastic panel.
>
> However, the panels that truly struck me were the Universe and Halo 4 panels. In the Universe panel, I couldn’t help but smile when Kevin Grace said that the extended Universe offered by the novels and other media were going to ultimately feed in to the games of the Reclaimer Trilogy. The panel of Halo 4 talked about how that they were going to try to portray John’s story with more emphasis, seeing as the perspective of a Spartan is drastically different than that of a normal person. The new audio guy for 343i really impressed with me with what his simple goals were for the sound of Halo 4.
>
> Finally, the terminal shown for Halo CEA truly demonstrated that 343i cares about the portion of the community which truly loves the Universe behind the Halo Universe. With so many references to Cryptum, I was barely able to contain my joy because it ultimately demonstrated that canon from novels isn’t going to be only a secondary thought. This is how I felt when I played the Reach campaign. While I love Bungie, they truly disappointed me, and showed me that canon for them wasn’t a big deal.
>
>
> I’m sorry for such a lengthy post. I just would like to express my gratitude with 343i for what they’re trying to accomplish, and what they’re giving us with CEA this November. Bringing back the CE Magnum for certain MP components of Reach is something only a developer which loved Halo would do for its community. I am also immensely looking forward to the upcoming novels, and of course Halo 4. All I have to say to 343i is that I hope they maintain their current tone. Bungie may have left Halo, but it seems like it is in hands where it will be looked upon with care.

> I know I’m a voice among thousands, but consider my opinion for the true Halo lovers.
>
> Halo is my most favorite game of all time to play! I truly love Halo, but ever since halo 3 ODST it has gone downhill. (Don’t get me wrong the campaigns are pretty great and the graphics just get better.) It went from my favorite game to just disgraceful boringness. I can understand trying different things and I didn’t hate halo 3 ODST just its lack of multiplayer bummed me out. Halo wars is totally different and I can’t bash that for those who like those types of games. As for Halo: Reach tho it was one of the biggest disappointments for me. Getting rid of the True Skill rating like in halo 3, that has to be one of the worst things you could possibly do. Also, the “bloom” every time you shoot your weapon is very annoying and it is NOTHING like the Halo series. You might as well just have named it something else and created a whole new game franchise, or better yet go into business with Call of Duty since I can see so much relations. Honestly… as for the “perks” or whatever you call them, those are the absolute last straw. Halo never! ever! had such bad taste in creating a video game… I know I’m not the only one who has started to hate Halo. STOP! trying to be like other games and focus on what you once were and how great it was. Halo combat evolved - Halo 3 was the absolute best game series ever created and I will never stop playing them. Bring back the true skill and get rid of the bull Yoink! and continue to make the most beloved game ever. I honestly will not ever buy another Halo game if it continues down this path.
>
> Please consider my views, and as for the people like me that I know are out there, join together and become a voice for what was once a good game.

I stand by M00SE on this one. Halo has turned away from their beloved franchise to slowly degrade and wash away. Stop creating games where you can’t decipher who’s better than who. The whole reason I got obsessed with Halo was because of the True Skill ranking system. It made the game so much more fun and added something to work towards. Making more games like Reach just make more people turn away. The ranking system in that game doesn’t even make sense and it doesn’t separate the good people from the bad making it very boring and not fun to play. Bloom is awful! That just isn’t Halo guys… The power ups are the absolute worse thing in the world. It only creates a growing number of annoying people that armor lock all day or just fly above your head until your dead. Honestly… Reach takes no skill whatsoever, it is much like every other game out there now and I despise it. The ranking system with just having exp/credits, make it sooo much like every other game and makes the game very boring, which also comes back to not dividing the game into who’s good and who’s not. It is very upsetting it makes the game way to easy and therefore I would chose many other games before I decided to pick this one up again. PLEASE the next game you make, base it off Halo 3, it is one of the best games I have ever played to this day and I still continue to play it.

Suggestions,
No more power ups (it copies other games and its just not what Halo is)
No more Bloom (It also copies what every other game has and it is most definitely not Halo, it gets rid of that classic/hardcore feel and makes the game so much worse.)
Bring back the True Skill Rating (makes the game so much more competitive and so much more fun.)
As for the ranking system how it is now, I understand people are out there who probably love it, but for those original Halo players it is a disappointment, try and create something that meets the two, but get rid of Reach’s ranking system It is downright horrible. Bring back the classic 1-50.
Keep the Armor Customizations Coming! (the armor customization is great and just keep building off of it. I cannot bash that in anyway, my only recommendation is to add more of it, ALOT MORE)
Graphics and Campaign (those are absolutely gorgeous graphics and the campaigns are always fun, keep it coming)
Firefight (personally I hate firefight, I think it is the most drawn out pile of boringness, but I know people do love it, so for the sake of that I will not voice what I think should be done.)
Forge (that has become very advanced and it is amazing, you can do so much and I love it.)
Theatre (that is really good and I can’t think of much to add)
Add More Halo 3 Map Pack DLC (if your never gonna make another great Halo game, do the world a favor and at least add to one of the best ones ever made)
I am definitely with M00SE, bring back the classic style of Halo or I will never buy another one again.

-Yoink!- armor ability. Boom
